Will the new city states from the Viking DLC be available in standard game, or they are just scenario-only?

If they are available in standard game then I will probably buy it just for those special abilities.

If not... what a trash DLC lol

It says in the base game in the description, and given it includes places like New Zealand and Mexico completely unrelated to Vikings, I'm pretty sure they'll be in the regular game.

For the benefits of not needing to create a new tab:

New City States
  • Auckland (Industrial): Additional production for Coastal tiles.
  • Antananarivo (Cultural): Culture bonus that increases with every Great Person earned.
  • Armagh (Religious): Builders can construct the Monastery improvement, which provides Faith and heals religious units.
  • Granada (Militaristic): Builders can construct the Alcazar improvement, which protects military units and provides Culture.
  • Muscat (Trade): Bonus Amenities in cities with a Commercial Hub.
  • Palenque (Scientific): Improved City growth for cities with a Campus.
New Natural Wonders
  • Eyjafjallajökull
  • Lysefjord
  • Giant’s Causeway
Scenario - Vikings, Traders, and Raiders!

Play as Harald Hardrada of Norway, King Canute of the Danes, or Olof Skotkonung of Sweden, Launch a naval invasion of England, conquer Paris, find Vinland with an explorer, or sail through Gibraltar and raid the Mediterranean Sea

Do we know the effects of the natural wonders? The appearances?

Eyjafjallajökull -2 tiles
Adjacent land plots yield +1 Culture and +2 Food.
Uses placement rules like Yosimite

Giant's Causeway - 2 tiles
Land combat units that enter adjacent plots receive the ability 'Spear of Fionn' (+5 combat strength).
Uses unique placement rules

Lysefjord - 3 tiles
Naval combat units that enter adjacent plots are granted their next promotion.
Uses placement rules like Piopiopahti

I did find the Giants Causeway in a standard game. It gives +5 Combat strength to land units. The fjord gives the next promotion to adjacent naval units. The volcano gives culture and food to adjacent tiles.

So Firaxis imitates Paradox in regards to their DLC. Include stuff in the base game IF you buy the DLC. One would think the new city states would be part of the base game automatically but oh well. The Moderator Action: <SNIP> is here to stay apparently.

it was like that in civ V as well. No surprise.

are the leaders of the viking scenario animated or did they reuse other leaders? I can't install it yet (mac), but the picture shows three leaders... if they animated three leaders for just that scenario...

No animated leaders; the six leaders in the scenario are represented by 2D images of wooden statues. And as far as I can tell, you're not going to be looking at the leader screens anyway, since the three Viking lords are apparently always allied with one another and at war with the rest of Europe.

I was expecting a lot more from this DLCs. 2 of 4 DLC packs you get from the season pass add merely two scenarios and one Civ. Considering the multiple leaders thing, I was expecting this DLCs to at least add a leader or two for Civs we already have.

I hope it will be like Xcom 2, where the first DLC was quite underwhelming (merely customization) while the last two are quite good and add a lot of content for a DLC. At least one leaders pack with multiple leaders is a must. I also hope they keep adding maps on updates and we don't end up getting a map pack with nothing else on it.

Well it's like a small expansion. It's not like there wasn't enough of CS in the base game, these are not necessary to play. I think these DLC's are not expensive for what they bring, even if I would have liked at least one new viking leader.
For people with the deluxe edition however I hope the other DLC's will have more content, otherwise deluxe only bring the music but no money saving.

i wonder why the vikings civ is not playable as the danes but only norwegian, not talking bad about norway but would be nice with some more playable civs outside scenarios

  • Armagh (Religious): Builders can construct the Monastery improvement, which provides Faith and heals religious units.
Can someone please explain this to me? According to the winter update patch notes religious units can now fortify until healed. So why build the monastery? Does this button only work when you've build the monastery? That's not how I read it, but otherwise it doesn't make sense.
  • Religious units may now Fortify Until Healed
