The Vikings!

This is a pretty nice civilization. The UA is great without being OP and pillaging cities and the countryside nets in a ton of gold for the trouble. The ability to pillage and still have a turn or two left over makes the Vikings pretty terrifying raiders.

Edit: I was thinking about the UA and UU again and I was thinking that maybe the Viking UU, to reflect that the Vikings were known for being badasses on boats, shouldn't receive a movement penalty when embarking and disembarking. That, combined with the UA, would make Berserkers fiercesome coastal raiders.

You have a Typo in Runestone.xml :-

TXT_KEY_BUILDING_MONUEMENT_STRATEGY should be TXT_KEY_BUILDING_MONUMENT_STRATEGY

I think it's important to try to make the civilization a bit unique. The pillaging and raiding traits were a good idea, but the other changes seems a bit more random. Here is what I suggest:

Trait: Norse Raids - Triple gold when capturing Barbarian encampments and enemy cities; No movement cost when pillaging. I like this one, but I am tempted to scale it down for barbarian encampents or it will give too much gold early. It should be more about pillaging and raiding other civs than fighting barbarians.
UU: Hirthmen/Huskarl/Viking Instead of heal, make them have the amphibious upgrade and able to defend at sea. How silly wouldn't it be that a whole viking raid got sunk by a barbarian galley? Viking warriors are 50% warriors and 50% sailors and excellent at naval warfare, that's also why the name Berserker is lacking.
UB: I feel like this should have something to do with trade, but I don't have any good ideas right now. Marketplace giving extra culture for example would make more sense since viking spread their culture through trade.

Any idea how to give land units fighting ability at sea? Only thing I could find was the Songhai trait, but I couldn't figure out how to apply it to a single unit.

noted and fixed - will be updated when next version is released

I'm not too sure how to apply the changes to just capturing enemy cities. The modifier used is the same as Songhai which is <plundermodifier>200</plundermodifier> (I don't think at this point, I can change the xml so it does this for only cities - but I'll work on it). As for the embarked units being able to defend themselves, I'll take another look - but I think it would apply to all units - and that would make this civ overpowered.

Your Mods are only available in the mod browser "All" section. It would help find them if they were in the Civilizations section. I don't know how you can change that though.

Spoiler :
With 1 exception, mine are the only cities that are missing. The city state Samarkand from the "City States of the World" mod is missing too, but other CS' from the mod is working fine.

Mods used:
- Active City Defense
- All of Thalassicus' "Balance" mods + Gradual Research
- City States of the World
- Historic City States
- Half Strategic Resources
- Luxury Resource Display
and various Civilizations, but they aren't in the current game.

Edit: If someone can tell me, how to hide an image in spoiler tags, so it doesn't wreck the forum, please tell me :D

@ Herex, if what you are asking about how to use 'spoiler', like above^^ , all you have to do is highlight the phrase, sentence, word, w/e then click on the 'Spoil' tag in the message options.

You might want to use the Housecarl unit available here for your Viking.

Love your Vikings. But have a problem. Can not install with the Mod Browser. It downloads OK but then there are stop! It will not install. I did correct the typo, maybe that broke the link. Could you update it again please.

Hello I am absolutely sure I am pretty late on this forum, but I have a little suggestion. What about make UU Longship - can transport 1 or 2 units?

I'm not sure if this is just me being thick, but I don't think this mod works since the patch.
I've tried deleting it and reinstalling the mod, and I am positive I have enabled the mod, but when i go to play it doesn't show the Viking civilization as an option. Anyone else?

The new patch broke something - there's a hotfix coming out soon

After downloading this mod in the mod browser, the "Install Mods" button does not show up, so I cannot install the mod. Anyone know why? Can I download and install this mod manually somehow, instead of using the mod browser?

I would have called the leader Hakon

Reason:
there have been 7 viking kings named hakon, and the current crown prince is called hakon, so it makes more sense, if you say Hakon the great, as there were a few with that name and could refer to a Hakon of any era.

I have been playing with this mod along with other ones for the last few days on a big epic campaign. Everything worked great until i built a colosseum in one of my cities : it made the city disappear !

Everything is working fine, no crash and i can still play and build like normal. Except the graphics for the cities with a colosseum built are completely gone.
