The Walking Dead: AMC-channel series Anyone psyched?

I walked in, saw a dude with a crossbow, and promptly gave up on liking the show. I think this is the type of show where my irritation at the general impracticality of the characters would get in the way of any appreciation I might garner at the quality of the show itself.

I just found out that the last episode is the last in the season, I guess because it's a new show and they didn't know if it would get picked up. Assuming that it will, which I think it will cause it seems kind of unique although it may be a little too much like Lost, I hope they start in the Spring and we don't have to wait until next year.

I wonder if the CDC is really set to explode if the power and generators all go out, I kind of doubt it. Couldn't they just have the containers with the test tubes/petri dishes self destruct somehow without the whole building going down? I wonder if they have everything machine controlled with that voice. Seems a bit too 1980s Sci-Fi for me. I guess this show works better if you don't ask too many questions.

Actually I do like the show and I normally don't like zombie stuff. I just think it could use some tweaking. They actually have had a pretty high body count so far but they've all been more peripheral characters so far. I'm surprised the black lady decided to give in and stay there, she always seemed a bit more upbeat before.

 you hate dudes with crossbows?

Well, the writing team was fired from the show... and honestly I think that this is a step in the right direction. I enjoyed the first season, but I can see myself not watching it anymore if the show does not change.

Now all they need to do is get rid of all the actors and they might be able to salvage this.

well, that could make it a great show indeed.

if they had actual actors, not some porn casting rejects.
and actual dialogues, instead of what seems to be what these porn casting rejects come up with on the set.

This.

The writing team was fired? where did you hear this?

it was a rumor spreading around the internet that has since been debunked. The show has its rough edges but its still entertaining.

I find the idea of trying to fight zombie hordes with a crossbow to be rather idiotic.

I actually find it smart and "realistic". Using a gun will attract the hordes, while using a crossbow is quiet and effective at dealing with small numbers. Also, guns need ammo, while you simply have to yank out an arrow.

It's just impractical. The thing is going to take a lot longer to reload than say a machine gun or shotgun would take.

That's what a baseball bat is for, and besides, baseball bats are much more readily available ;)

for one, crossbows use bolts, not arrows, and for two, generally, unless you aren't using heads, arrows/bolts are pretty damn hard to dig out of flesh.

Again, noise and ammo facto

You have to get up close to use a baseball bat vs a crossbow, increasing the risk of bite.

Well, on the show he digs out the arrows.

Which is why you keep a melee weapon. More readily accessible, and without all the cumbersome ammunition and reloading. If you are at risk while using a baseball bat, you are clearly using it wrong.

More to the point I find the whole idea of a "zombie" ridiculous. I mean whats with that? Even the closest thing we have to the zombie virus is rabies, and we don't have a massive epidemic of foaming rabies do we? It's because biting people is a damn inefficent way of spreading a disease.

And I don't really understand the idea of having to get the brain to kill it. There's no way, even as a virus manipulating a human's body, that you are going to be able to operate independent of blood and vital organs. I can understand obsession with consuming flesh, and resistance to pain and injury, but I don't understand why they would be unable to bleed out or be killed while aiming for parts of the body other than the brain.

After rigor mortis sets in they won't even be able to move, good luck getting that corpse moving again.

And what about blood spatter? Also, you have to get up close to use it.

If you don't like zombies then why the ... are you complaining at zombie fiction? It'd be same as complaining about use and existence of magic in the movie that describes Merlin the Wizard as badass sorcerer...

True, Crossbows are ineffective but I found it work well in The Walking Dead contents - it added possibilities and option that shotgun or baseball bats would have not. So in theory at least, It works for me.
