Sorry for this thread but I'm so disappointed from Civ 4. I was playing Civilization since Civ 1 and my favorit game is Civ 2.

But Civ 4:

- More Bugs than Starship Troopers ;)

- The 3D grafic is :(

- The panoramic view is

- The AI of the enemy is

- Civ 4 composite is

I hope really that a patch in the next days eliminate all grafic errors (also Nividia cards) and make the F-Hotkeys useable (at the moment the System always crashed when I put F5).

And to that guy who is responsible for the 3d grafik --> go to hell!!!!!!!!!!

bugs will be fixed like in all pc games

3d is the reason i got the game as well as im guessing a large population of new players

the view is ok... plus u can change it, or go in free camera,

the ai works very well i dont know your problem unless u played on a easy diff

as for graphic errors i installed the game at my comp at my college, and my parents house, geforce 4 ti 4200, and geforce fx 5200, both work perfect so eh

I have a Pentium IV 3 Ghz, Nvidia 6600 GT, 2 GB Ram and I can play F.E.A.R. and Quake 4 with 1280 x 1024 and 4x AL, but Civ 4 have many performance problems and I have installed the newest driver.

The AI of the enemy and the game balance is risible. With the Romans you win every match (also on the highest degree of difficulty) on the world map as a result of their Legions but the egyptians lose every match because they have no iron and copper resoruces close to their starting point.

So the game come be summed up with smiley faces...fair enough.

The game fails to meet the standard of the yellow and red smiley! OMG! I'm getting Dead or Alive volleybal instead.

Seems weird I have a sligtly slower system then you, using Ati 9700 Pro with no problems on highest settings.. be sure to install Service Pack 2, it helped 1user on this forum.

Hay look guyz I signed up just to troll because I don't get enough attention in real life™.

Seriosuly though I have a similar spec machine and the game runs fine, sounds like you have a problem somewhere.

Even though that humor is in bad taste, I must admit I find it funny. :)

It's not a bad game though once you get into it Viper2024. I hope you can join in on the Civ fun as soon as possible.

I would love to find out how you beat the AI on the highest dificulty.
I know one or two players that are pretty damn good with this game (and it's "parents") - who have been playing for several months btw - but are unable to do what you have achieved in just a couple of days.

I think that he's talking about the "World Map", Alva. That's a scenario, and AFAIK, was not tested by the top couple of "most advanced" players. It was tested, but not as thoroughly as the core game. What he is claiming -may- be possible. Or it may not. I'm not sure! There could be an imbalance or two in scenarios that could be exploited. If so, we can find out about them and fix them once they are well understood.

This is different than the core game on random maps, though. Anybody who wants to play only on the world map, and play it over and over to where they can figure out how to exploit the advantages and imbalances... Well, that's cool. Claiming that the "whole game" is like that, though, would clearly be absurd.

Thing is, for some folks, they really love those World Maps, and if there is any perceived flaw, they will get upset about it. To some, the World Map is the whole game! That can be hard for you or me to relate to, though, since we play mostly random maps.

It took me a few hours to get used to the 3D graphics, but by now I quite like and enjoy them. It's a pretty game and I'm definitely captured by it. Also haven't experienced any crashes or slow-downs in about 12 hours of playing (bpth on- and offline).

Man I put the AI on Aggressive under the options menu and I have 3 front war going right now. You gotta put AI on Aggressive if you want a challenging game out of it. I'm playing Monarchy level also. Plus I have modded the game already to take 960 turns instead of 550 and have 400 turns of ancient era fun fun fun. It's a Chariot, Axeman, Archer war atm. Quite fun.

They attacked me out of the blue too, sneaky bassturds, got right up on my borders then declared war and moved in, I lost two cities, but, got one right back and it was my HORSE city as well. Whew that was close, almost lost my chariots. ;)

Graphics an interface and camara are "minor" issues for me. Having a game to play moreso than pressing the end turn button like the vanilla version was my big issue. After changing just a few things around on the huge game settings and huge world map size it's finally a lot of fun. I playing against 14 civs too. Lotsa wars and fun fun fun going on now. I play on Pangea maps also, like all the civs on one piece of land, thas fun fun fun too. lol

Complaining about the 3D or the view is the bad joke. You do realize that you can make the game look just like any of the previous three Civ games, right? If you want it like Civ1, zoom out to the last stop before the clouds become visible. It's then completely top-down and the fact that the game is in 3D is almost inconsequential because everything looks 2D. If you want it to look like Civ2 or Civ3, then zoom out a few stops and use CTRL + the left and right arrows to rotate the camera in 45-degree increments. Then you have it like what you're probably used to, and the 3D-ness is still limited. It's really quite easy to get the game to look the way you want. I can't believe I wasted so many words to point out the obvious to someone who simply isn't interested in trying.

Why are people semingly so personally offended (and, in turn, offensive) when people point out [and in a nice fashion, as this poster did] negatives in Civ IV? This reminds me of when Star Wars Eposiode I came out -- even though it clearly sucked there were people that hated any negative words spoken about it.

Hows that "in a nice fashion" Massemo?? :p
Anyways, clearly some folks like it, some don't. I find it odd that he thinks the AI is  , when so many ( including myself ) think it is far superior to older civs where the AI bordered on :crazyeye: .

Unfortunately, it's not in his computer.

If it is buggy, than it is buggy, there is no execuse to release a buggy game and then fix it with some patches or even expensive expansion pack.

that is a general comment about software development.

I just got my game, will play and comment.

I have some minor complaints with this Civ -- the Civilopedia, the absence of a throne room, and the absence of a completely random map option -- but in general I think it's a terrific game. I'm very surprised to hear someone complain about the AI; I think it's the best Civ AI yet. The AI in Civ 2 hardly sets the standard for computer-game AI. I think the 3D graphics add a lot to the game, and I find almost every new feature well-thought-out: religion, promotions, health, great people, etc. I think folks should spend some time just playing random games and getting used to it all.

What are you guys talking about? There are NO frickin' bugs in this game. There are some things that might have been implemented more efficiently (then again, the interface may just take some getting used to,) and there may be compatibility issues with some video drivers (not mine,) but I have had *NO* problems getting the game to work properly. (Which is, after all, what a "bug" is.)
