The Wonder Thread.

Now that wonders are built outside the city and you can see the progress, I wonder if Firaxis have thought about the possibility that when a Civ starts building a wonder but doesn't complete it prior to another Civ, the unfinished Wonder stays on the hex and it has a negative effect unique to that Wonder.

I don't think it's right to punish a player for getting beaten to a wonder, because it's too random, but Quill's Oracle stayed on the map despite him being beaten to it.

So it stays there, it kind of looked like an ancient ruin as well which looked fairly cool in his lands, it could have a Archeological Site or something along those lines.

I think that it stayed there is a bug. If it became an archaeological site, then it would be an exploit to start every wonder for 1 turn and abandon it.

Most likely it's just visual. It will disappear once you build something else on the tile.

EDIT:

It would be cool to have "wonder demolition" video - the same as wonder building, but backwards, from the point where you've been beaten to the clean spot :)

And have wah-wah played at the end.

...followed by messages like:

"A greater Great Library has been built in Paris (France)!"
"A holier Oracles has been built in Paris (France)!"
"A faster Alhambra has been built in Paris (France)!"

For me, it'll be cool but annoying at the same time.

Which is weird as hell, it is a super thick stone wall, what has it to do with banking. It is also super old an spud come earlier in the game.

I'm thinking it very odd not having the Taj Mahal, Statue of Liberty, Kremlin and the Sistine Chapel confirmed yet, will we not see this wonders in the base game?

I can understand Sistine Chapel, because it's not known for the outside, but the inside, how do you show the magnificent of the inside in Civ 6? It's not as easy.

Although lack of Taj Mahal, Statue of Libertiy and Kremlin is surprising.

Maybe its a great artwork instead now?

Easy - make the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel a Great Work of Art given to you by Michelangelo instead of a wonder.
Oh! Would you look at that! :p

I'm starting to think the Tech and Civics Trees are simply not finished yet, and some elements like Wonders haven't been yet programmed/configured which Tech/Civic unlocks them.
Because it really makes no sense to ship a Civilization game without any of these...

Updated the OP with Great Zimbabwe info. Crunched some numbers. If you build it in a city with say 3 other tiles of wheat/copper/rice/stone/deer/fish/whatever, and you have 4 trade routes, that's 37 extra gold per turn this wonder can give you, before Market/Bank modifiers. That's not even counting the 2 Great Merchant points. And Great Merchants are looking really interesting this time around.

Seems pretty great.

I just noticed, in the OP, it doesn't say that Stonehenge needs to be adjacent to Stone.

Right...

Good job you stated the obvious.

I also highly doubt the arguement that the tech tree is "unfinished", if anything it's just the UI. Not every wonder needs to make a return, some wonders probably got cut if their benefits aren't that big or worthy (and I mean game benefits, not their worth as a building)

In civ5 we had 28 wonders in the base game. In civ6 we have 26 wonders confirmed to date.
If we are going to the same way of civ5, there are only more 2 wonders to be confirmed.

Sorry, didn't mean it as an attack... :)
Wanted to make a stupid joke, I think it came off as a bit aggressive...

But yeah - the Sistine Chapel is not in as a wonder because its ceiling is in as a work of art. That has been confirmed, so no need to search for a different solution to this problem.

Since there also seemed to be a lack of late game units, and nothing after the Medieval/Renaissance Era should even be of our knowledge, it wouldn't surprise me if there's units/buildings/wonders not yet assigned a tech. From my understanding, it's the units and buildings that are assigned techs, and not the other way around, so the tech tree could very well be finished, but not the units and buildings.

Either way, if not right now, then I'm sure they'll add all of those wonders in DLC or expansions! :)

I apology for being rude too, I'm rather sensitive these days :mischief:

Yeah, wasn't Creation of.. whatever, the Sistine painting in Civ 5 too with Sistine Chapel sepereately? But that's the thing, I think it just makes more sense to have the painting be the great work that it is and not have Sistine Chapel. I see that rather rationally, although will be the first time (ever I think?) since that wonder won't make the cut.

Also is it really lacking in the Tech tree? I thought it covered most units? Base game vanilla also had some huge holes in it.

Although they did say that late-tech tree was under NDA so they might be hiding something.

One possibility: When you build the Sistine Chapel receive a free great artist (Michelangelo).
And Michelangelo's artwork would grant the artistic fresco the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, with a single bonus.
Thus, the player would enjoy the artistic magnificence of Michelangelo if he build the Sistine Chapel.

It could be the solution to the Sistine Chapel :p
