PersonallyI think, and I've studied languages and accents all my life, that sometimes people can be biased in perception perhaps because of rivalries or because the language in question is so different from their own.. But I also think there's a general perception of what makes a language beautiful.. such as musicality, consonants vs. vowels, fluidity, sensuality, expressiveness, ect.. anyway..
Here's one..
(most beautifull)
Zulu..
Zulu must rank among the world's most beautiful languages, sounds like somewhere between Italian and Swahili, also two very beautiful languages.. Swahili having a more noticeable Hindi influence.
Other beautiful languages are Portuguese(especially Brazilian Portuguese).. and I think they know it too by some of the other threads in here. Galego is also very melodic and is related to portuguese, but It is less nasal and shares a somewhat castillian soberness and clarity.
Argentine Spanish is also very beautifull, soft, charming and very musical, sometimes to a fault,.. It is the opposite of Castillian which I find very dry, sober as well as a bit harsh (same goes for European Portuguese) ..
French is full of beautiful sounds and most people in America automatically think French is the most beautiful language in the world, the language of love, of sex, blah blah blah... I personally think it a nice language and apparently the French took audio-esthetics into serious considertion when the language was developed, Southern French or the "Meridional" accent, especially from Provence is more musical and expressive than the Northern/Standard French.
English, specifically the Queen's English.. that of most english speaking countries, accept (you guessed it) ..the United States, is also a very nice language, ..The Anglo-Caribbean dialect (Jamaican, Bahamian, etc..) is actually quite beautiful.
of the Asian Languages I would say Japanese and Hawaiian are the most beautiful. Chinese is also nice and quite "interesting".. not necessarily sensual, but very rich indeed!
Ugliest Languages:
Turkish and all its proto-types, that includes Bulgarian, Armenian, Kurdish, and Lebanese..They're just too full of gluteral sounds mixed with bizarre mixtures of consonants with no melody to back it up.. sorry turks, no offense, but yeah!.. Arabic and Hebrew are also very harsh and glutteral.
Thai, Malay, Korean, Vietnamese and Tagalog(filipino) are the worst asian ones, probably for the same reasons. though I'm sure they would disagree with me.
Of the European Languages Hungarian (very bizarre), German, Dutch, Flemish, and certain Slavic languages like Czech and Serbian are rather unpleasant. Basque is also quite difficult to digest. Celtic languages, while they lend a very pleasant cadence when married with romance-type languages, such as in the case with Portuguese, Galego, French and English, all of which share celtic roots, The original Celtic Languages are rather impossible to pronounce..
The longest name in the world is in Welsh..
