The Worst and the best events

Best. Event. Ever.

Why? Free money!

Err if I uploaded a screenshot in a different thread and I want to link to it in this thread... how do I go about doing that?

Best event, probably the Royal Family dying out and getting a free super-specialist in the capital.

Worst, Slave revolt because it happens so damn frequently.

Wow. My current game amazes me.

I got the event that promotes all melee to cover. Cool. Also got the axe handles - shock on all axemen, very nice. And to top it off, I got the Elite Swordsmen quest - drill I on all melee.

End result?

All Axemen I produce have Shock, Cover, and Drill I.

Too bad I am Gandhi and decided from the start to limit myself to peace, for a fun game of wonder-spamming until modern ages. I'm seriously considering abandoning this.

I've got a nice large stack of swordsmen with CRI, Cover and Drill I, and a nice large stack of Axemen with CRI, Cover, Drill I, and Shock.

EDIT: Just got the dynasty event. Took the GG. This game is event heaven. Also got black pearls, and the forty thieves, and now the harbourmaster quest.

I'd say it is even funnier to play warmongering Gandhi, and force the world to submit to you.

When playing Civ3, I had one game where I decided that I would play a random leader, and I got Gandhi. So, I teched up to my elephant UU and then stomped the world, winning one of my earliest victories ever in that game. Was a lot of fun.

Hate to bump an old topic, but I just got a horrible event in a recent game. It's 1500BC and I have three cities; two warriors and an archer compose the entirety of my nation's defenses (I usually start bulking up on military after building the third city).

A barbarian uprising occurs, plopping four horse archers two tiles away from my youngest city. I mentally give up the game at this point; the third city is done for, as it has only one archer and can't pop-rush any defenses. I have no metal, and my capital can only pop-rush for 30 hammers being at size two. I click the "end turn" button a few times, just so I can watch the barbs overrun my empire.

My very next game, a barbarian uprising of archers occurs in 2280BC. Not life-threatening, but an obnoxious loss of pace when I could have been spending production towards settlers and workers instead of warriors and archers.

I think nearly everyone knows the new throne event only for Hereditary Rule (free Great Prophet, Great Merchant or Great Military Instructor in your capital). So the question is, are there events for Representation and Universal Suffrage too? Btw, where do you know it's only for civs under Police State?

I had in my latest game very good event. I had two choices, and I think it's not connected to any civic/building.

1) Get +1 commerce in the plot.
2) Pay 122 gold. Get +1 commerce in the plot. Also: 67% chance for (both or neither) +3 healthiness in Mutal and +1 free Scientist in Mutal.

I chose the latter, and odds worked. Really nice boost, even though I didn't work that tile.

/agree That one is the nicest that has happened to me so far, I happened to be trying to industrialize at the time too.

I only survived the horse archers in my game because of the Great Wall--they got stuck on a peninsula by my cultural borders. Good thing, too, because when I sent my one spearmen to kill them off (fight across the border, and stay in my culture to heal), the horses killed him at 90.3% chance of success. Then, the second spearmen I built died as well. Finally, I ended up sending pikes over after I had discovered Engineering to take them out. Annoying to say the least, but at least I didn't lose a city.

Undoubtedly the massive barbarian uprising which wiped out my immediate neighbour just after I discovered them, followed by me before I could build a warrior to protect my capital!

My first ever, and probably worst ever, Quest - the Holy Mountain. Got shown it by building temples etc. which suited my plans anyway: found it was an isolated peak with at least two sea tiles on every side, so couldn't settle there.
But I am astonished at the number of events which seem to occur in other people's games. Currently, for example, it's 250AD and all I've seen is the above-mentioned Quest for me, somebody got Shields, others got a forest fire and a flood. That's all. I made a list in an earlier game, which produced a total of 15 events, mostly for AI civs, nothing dramatic.

Having recently read through the list of events and quests, from what I can remember the best is the Marathon one, where when an enemy civ declares war on you and strikes first in your territory, you get a GA. You don't need to DO anything for it, and all of a sudden your enemy is in trouble!

The worst sounds like the tsunami one. Your city loses buildings and 5 pop, and if it's under 5 it's wiped out. That would suck a LOT - imagine how long it would take to rebuild 5 pop and a variable number of buildings.

The best event for me hands down was when a charismatic leader took control of my party and I had the choice of either +2 :) in every city or all of my Gunpowder units recieved the March promotion. Marching Infantry backed by a Medic III GG is some kind of powerful.

Unfortunately, this event only happens under Police State and it's not something that I'm in very often.

This one's my favourite, march for all gunpowder is awesome. All events giving free specialists are great too, as are the inflation reducing ones.

The most annoying I'd think would have to be clanker coal or its oil equivalent, whatever that is.

I've had the healing plant one three times in the last week. Never had it before that. Was it added with the patch?

I've also gotten a free pasture a couple times in the last week. It's not major, but it's a nice time-saver.

I seem to get the stable and chariot quests a lot, often when I don't have horses. I usually don't complete the chariot quest because I get to the Classical Age too quickly through Oracle.

Both are from the patch. I added the free Pasture event to counteract the prevalence of negative events early on. Early events generally destroy stuff and there was no improvement-giving event.

One time I got the healing plant event when my capital (size three) was my only city. 1 population point and +2 unhappiness that will pass before it becomes a concern in exchange for having half of expansive trait for the whole game? Yes, please!

Are the +? healthy from the healing plant permanent. I seem to remember playing a game and they went away when the happy faces went away.

Edit: ignore the above, the bonus is permanent. Did some testing in a game yesterday.

The AI can't steal flight off me anyway. They're too well behind me! While I got planes, they got muskets, longbows and some have rifles

Funny disappointment recently:

When I was trying out my first Quechua rush, full of vinegar, and two of my 5 quechuas traveling individually to the closest capital were eaten by animals - and then the capital was on a hill and defended by 1 archer and 2 warriors who slaughtered the quechuas.

Needless to say, that was the end of that particular game ...
