Theater of War

Ok, I ran 2 test games. The first with the biq created 8/30/10. The second with the biq you used Lanzelot, created 9/5/10. I ran each game in the Hotseat mode and in each game all tribes were played exactly the same. The first tech for all tribes to research in each game was The Wheel at 100%. Here's what I found:

In the 8/30/10 game ~
France got no Cattle.
Korea got no Cattle or Wheat
Iroquois got no Cattle.
Everyone got Horses except for the second tribe (which I had put as the Ottoman).

In the 9/5/10 game ~
Player 1 (which somehow turned out to be the Arabs) started 1 tile NW of center and got a scout.
Player 6 (Byzantines) started on the SW side of the River (on the Wheat), so the Cattle was out of range until the first border expansion.
The Germans got no Horses.

This seems to be an unstable biq. We may want to create another one. Suggestions?

I believe Bowsling will play this turn.

I think the first two issues (non-centered start positions for some nations) are due to different nations being used than the ones pre-defined in the .biq. If you setup a game with the exact same nations as in our game, everything is fine. (Otherwise one of us 8 players ought to haved noticed that by now... :D)

So I think the missing German horses is the only grave problem we have. (Assuming the current game is generated from the biq attached to post #1.) I'll send a mail to Eclipse, perhaps he had fixed that error before starting the current game...
Otherwise I'll ask AlanH for help.

Yes, I wasn't saying that the non-centered start positions was a constant, just that it was a discrepency. We did match on the "no Horses for Germany" and that is the biq we are playing, so rather than wait for AlanH, maybe we should just redo the biq and start over. We are only like 4 turns into this game. It's not like we won't be able to duplicate our moves.

Would it be proper for me to redo the biq?

Yes, go ahead and play yout turn, Bowsling. Then send it to me. Maybe we'll get another response. I'm thinking it should be restarted.

A small technical problem with ps2 keyboard not loading after winxp loads. I'll get a USB keyboard and will be up Thursday.

I see a problem with a resource has been found, I assure you any resource missing will have a major impact

I seriously doubt your keyboard had anything to do with the biqs being messed up. Your settings are probably not at default, or there is some other complication. Maybe you should find a replacement for me.

I checked the biq file in the editor and it looks like the missing horse resource is the only glitch left. Otherwise all 8 start positions look equal. (But perhaps someone wants to double-check that. Had already been late and my eyes started to get blurry.)

In any case, I would hate to start over again. 4 turns with 8 players involved would mean another 16 days lost, even if we get two players per day to re-play their turns.
I suggest we continue playing, while at the same time looking for an experienced Civfanatics staff member or modder who can fix that little problem in the .sav file.

Hi

I can try to edit the save, if you will post the latest one here and stop playing until I post it back again.

Bowsling still has the save. Not sure if he played yet or not.

Would you like to check this one? ...

Thanks. Checking.

EDIT: The save works fine, just like the original that Ivan sent earlier. I have played Bowsling's turn, saved, and played my turn with no problem. I did not check any of the resources or any other aspect of the game, I just played. There is no way of telling if the Germans now have Horses or not. We will have to wait until they research the required tech.

I guess we just continue until Germany has the required tech, then we'll know for sure.

But I think we can trust Alan on this, he is a real expert in these things... :goodjob:
Thanks a lot for helping us out here!! This is really appreciated.
