They're All Barbarians.

The possibility of a difficult and protracted victory cannot be totally dismissed.

Very nice set Rolo (too bad we didn't settle that Tibet city one SW though... ;))...
More comments when I get to see the save.

hey now ~ i'm safe from the hurricane and have this. will post a plan in a few hours or so once i tkae a look around

Sallah: What is this "Junior?"

Henry Jones: That's his name. Henry Jones [points to Indy] Junior!

Indy: I like Indiana

Henry: We named the dog Indiana!!

Sallah: The dog?!?! YOU ARE NAMED AFTER THE DOG?!?!?!

Indy: I have a lot of fond memories of that dog.

anyway, i think i'll be doing the prep set this time round. build up our fleet while prepping an expeditionary force and working on some sort of defense for russia just in case.

i think astro will be better for us in the short term with this.

although, are we sure we don't want to maybe take care of persia while we wait for galleons??

The indian barbarians are probably closer to a nuisance than a major threat for the moment, the mongol barbarians remain a potential threat but the major threat is probably the persian barbarians (even if they lack the most basic knowledge of gunpowder atm).

cripp7's proposal of tech stealing using a Great Ninja is worthy of consideration, though maybe some insights from r-rolo1 spymaster extraordinaire could be handy to facilitate this nefarious endeavour.

alright, ima hold off on playing until later today then. personally, the more i look at it, the more i think persia first might be the way to go. i just don't think we should give persia the turns it would take to build the triremes and conquer the indian cities.

@ cripp and rrr ~ thx for the consideration. as of my divorce, i moved from nearby philadelphia to the coast, about 15 miles from where it made landfall in new jersey. luckily, though, only a shed door was blown open despite the winds adn 7 inches of rain. it might be a function of everything else that's going on in my life, but for some reason, i wanted widespread destruction...

okay, ima attack persia....post now or forever hold your peace.

over the course of the set, i turned down a few demands, but we also met our new world friends (GW, inca and aztecs)

i wanted to build some knights for our army before I moved it out as there were more than few cats adn trebs in persia, but once the army was ready:

i moved first to the NW:

took that w/nary a loss of unit. however, on my way SW, we were attacked by teh persia stack which eliminated all of pikes and few of our ele's as now persia had cuirassers. however, next turn, while i waited for our trebs and cats to catch up, i wiped out the stack and focused on susa.

this one, we lost a few trebs from their weakened state (due to the flanking of persia's horsies). there's a settler with the stack and another ready to be whipped in the GT city next turn (forget teh name).

[and i actually odn't like that city spot anymore]

steel came in adn we got compass and are one turn from optics. then to astro i presume. i think once we take persepolis, persia's finished (that capital is amazing)

and finally, found htis new town with 3 cuirassers:

Looks like the Persian beast is tameable! Cyrus being in anarchy for 2 turns doesn't really help his case at this point... If we just raze and resettle his southern core and do the same with Arabia next, then this starts to look quite bright.

Too bad? They're barbarians ffs ! Who cares that persepolis has spiral minaret, sankore, hanging gardens, chichen izza etc. Its a barbarian hovel. Raze it. Burn the rubble.

btw life would be easier if our trebs upgraded to cannon though it would take a few turns to raise the cash and have them in a civilised city to effect their transformation.

Nicely done ( wait, I'm saying that pholk played well ? Oh heavens, we should be close of the final judgement :p )

I'm definitely for gutting the persians out as much as we can given our limited oportunity window ( as soon as Cyrus resumes his Rifling teching and finishes it, we will have Cavs and rifles instead of cuirs, LBs and muskets ), but I would not say to push against the Persian-arab border until we can bring more heavy cannons to the fray. Say, use persian culture to wall us from Sal until we can kill both

BTW we should definitely beat Astro out of someone. It might be hard to get it from Cyrus, thoug and 20 turns in sustainable teching ... bah. can't we beat India out of it ? :p This especially because we NEED to get Edu fast and can't divert more 20 techs to get astro.

I stress this because , until Rails, we would gain a huge mobility bonus if we ferried our troops intead of slooging them out until we got to the middle east ... and frigates would definitely help with the bombings of coastal cities. More importantly, IMHO this game will be decided by how fast we control the middle east , since it is the area that has less average distance of all points of the old world ... not mentiong the huge adantage of being able to ferry troops to the Med via Suez to attack Europe.
