This IS a Conservative C2C MP game Thunderbrd! :p

@Harrier,

It is now your turn.

IF you have a problem then I will restart a New game and make one more change.

EDIT: Please read the preceding posts on what is necessary to set up to play. Don't know if you have been keeping up or not.

Okay, gonna try this again using T-brd's steps from the Progressive game.
1. Delete from C:\Program Files (x86)\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods the C2C MP Cnsvr Mod.
2. make copy of SVN 9445 and place in the .....Beyond the Sword\Mods folder. Rename to C2C MP Cnsrv <-(notice difference in abbreviation, I was dyslexic and flipped the r and v)
3. Do Not replace the User Settings folder, My initial turn should set that for all players (as T-brd discovered)<--- This impo was our problem but....who knows?
4. When turn is played and save is placed by the game in the Pbem C2C MP Cnsrv folder, Copy the save As Is and Paste in the ...SVN\C2C MP\Save+TurnList\Cnsrv MP Game saves Folder where you found your turn waiting for you.
5. Very Important step process here:
To pass the save without Renaming it, put the save in the appropriate SVN folder (Cnsrv MP Game saves), then right-click on it and select TortoiseSVN->add. Then on the old one (the one you double clicked on to get to play your turn) right-click and select TortoiseSVN->delete. Then do the SVN commit.
6. once commit is made come to forum this thread and post who is next.

So I will now attempt to start the conservative game again.

JosEPh
Did you take the step to remove the added cultures?

The game CTDs during the load screen. No error messages.

I then tried an experiment with Caveman2Cosmos folder (using the same SVN version.).

I altered the Caveman2Cosmos.ini and set Modular_loading = 1. (set to 0 - it loads)

I got an XML parsing SAX ERROR.:

Strangely the file was in "My_Mods(unloaded) and was mormon_new\mormon_Civ4_buildinginfos.xml.

expected end of tag ..... line 1296.

This was followed by 2 other reelated mormon errors and a CTD.

I deleted the mormon_new folder and tried again. Sadly a CTD during the load process - no error messages.

Can someone else try my turn and see if it loads.

No I did not. Just checked. Now why did I forget that. Well I often do.:mad::rolleyes:

Will try again.

Your try will do no good Harrier.

I purposefully left the New_Cultures in My_Mods Module to double check if you could play it thru Pbem.

And by your response that idea failed.

I will alter my copy of C2C MP Cnsrv Mod with this New_Cultures Folder Moved to the My_Mods (unloaded) Module which according to DH removes it from being used.

Then I will restart a new game and commit the save deleting this failed one. So if you can hang on for a few minutes I will have it set up and ready for you to try again.

@ ALL the rest of the players,
Please hold off on posting in this thread till I've got this ready and Harrier has posted yeah or nay.
Thank you for your patience.

Well at least we have found a possible error with the mormon modmod.

Will try again tommorrow ( 12 hours).

@Harrier,

2 things: make sure you have the C2C MP Cnsrv Mod spelled this way and you have moved the New_Cultures in the My_Mod to the My_Mods(unloaded) module. Do Not Delete the New_Cultures Folder just cut/paste it's location.

Save game is up. So give this one a try. If it also fails then I will remove the New_Cultures from the Mod completely

I await your response.

Too late for another test after some simple steps?

That is a great find, now this can get Fixed. And relatively easily too.

No I will give it ago. Did not realize you would be that quick.

Also:

I thought it was odd you specifically said "one more change".

I was curious if thru a Pbem game your XP OS would still balk at that New_Cultures Folder. And I'm just as curious if it will with it Moved the My_Mods(unloaded) folder.

We may still need to fix the Mormon file but the Progressive game has played with it as it is.

So we test different settings as long as time allows for us to be here on the forum at the same time. As your turn is The Critical turn for this Pbem game to work

JosEPh

No did not load. Got the "protected save" message again.

As a check my "C2C MP Cnsrv.ini" file has "Modular loading" set to 0, should I change that to 1.

We may still need to fix the Mormon file but the Progressive game has played with it as it is

Normal C2C loads with that folder - hence my suprize at the error message.

Okay. Now to go over the necessary things to make sure the C2C MP Cnsrv Mod is the same for both of us.
1. yours is also spelled the same as what I have posted here.
2. If yes, then we will both go into the Mod and Delete the New_Cultures Folder.
3. I will then start a new Conservative Pbem game ( doesn't take me long any more :p )
4. Will post when it's ready if you can hang around.

Ready? (if so post Yes)

JosEPh

Harrier,
Okay New game is up for you to try.

EDIT: What is your local time now by the way?

Again the protected save error.

Hmmm.......Somehow we just do not have the same file set. We have our wires crossed somewhere? Did you put the Modular loading in the .ini back to 0?

How late is it for you?

Suppose I should hold off on another try till tomorrow when I see you are on the forum. Will have something ready by then.

0 in both .ini files. C2C MP Cnsrv and Caveman2Cosmos.

2-30 in the morning.

Well checking other posts for another 30 mins. Not going anywhere tomorrow. So will check back.

Okay. And you did not put in the User Settings Folder from the C2C MP Cnsrv game save folder either I hope into the main C2C Mp Cnsrv Mod. We discovered that is not necessary and was the source of problems for the Progressive game.

See you tomorrow when we're bot a bit "fresher". ;)

No, left it alone as suggested in the progressive thread.

Good night - till tomorrow.

EDIT: Please read the preceding posts on what is necessary to set up to play. Don't know if you have been keeping up or not.

Using the save game file that was in the SVN when the above was posted, and following all steps, I tried loading the save game. Did not move New Cultures folder, did not change UserSettings. It crashed with the "save protected due to altered assets" as before, but the load screen with the "C2C.jpg" was up for a couple of minutes and the music played for a short while. Error message (and game) self-closes after a couple of seconds.

Decided to try an experiment, so I replaced the default UserSettings folder with the one from the Cnsrv MP Game saves folder in the SVN. Crashed with the same message, but immediately as "C2C.jpg" appeared and before three notes of the music played. Odd that.

Then I went and Updated the Cnsrv MP Game saves folder in the SVN, and moved the New Cultures folder to (unloaded). Reverted UserSettings to r9445 default. Current save crashes with same message as above and immediately as "C2C.jpg" almost shows, except now I get a "bling" noise, and the error message is behind the black screen (get to it using alt-tab and click on the Civ4 icon) and does not go away until OK is clicked. Game closes when OK clicked.

Crashes in exactly the same way with altered UserSettings folder.

I hope all of that makes some sense to somebody, as it does not to me. How can JosEPh's game not work when Thunderbrd's does if they both followed the same steps? Very odd.

I mean... it doesn't make sense. I can't answer to it. Maybe we just have to keep trying until a save is found that doesn't trip up the trigger somehow. I don't know.
