Thread to Report Issues with new xenForo version 2.2

New query: could we do away with the ‘similar threads’ thing?
When you make them ;).
Making the current 2 themes took like 5h, although I'm getting faster. I might take on the black one today, to have something with higher contrast.
As mentioned on the last pages, it is possible for you to create your own theme, and we'll consider it.

If you actually do want people to contribute don't be a sarcastic arse because tone doesn't get written into your message as the bare text is.

No, we decided to keep that one. There's a separate thread where we can discuss where we'd want to have it.

Yes, that was on purpose.

@Valka D'Ur please have a look at https://4e98e0cd495d517d.demo-xenforo.com/228/index.php?threads/test.1/ . Ignore the header logo please, just focus on if the colour contrast for most things is okay please.

Also, the members page has more options, but there's a ‘most points’ option that is more or less useless. Everybody caps out at 113 points.

Edit: and the subscriptions page (‘watched/threads’) is now what before used to be the ‘watched/threads/all’ page.

Some time back, Camikaze (I think) asked me to suggest other things that points could be handed out for. I regret to say that I never got back to him about that. Over on TrekBBS there are more criteria to award points. I have 1560 points there, though some of them were awarded for reasons that wouldn't apply here. Post count matters over there, as in moving up in the Starfleet ranks depends on post count. I've reached the bottom rung of the Admiralty now (over there I'm a Vice-Admiral), which means I've been awarded points for every rank I've gained, plus access to the Admirals' Lounge (each rank lounge can be accessed when you reach the minimum post count for that rank; there are lounges for everyone from Red Shirts (new members) on up to Fleet Admiral).

I'm guessing that CFC wouldn't be interested in anything similar here, since Deity comes at a ridiculously low number of posts. I do have a few ideas for other things that could be used to award points; I got the impression that this is customizable to some extent. Things like your first time starting a thread or poll, or your first time changing an avatar might be reasons to award points, as it's basically meant to encourage participation.

I'm not sure about this one. It seems to be a feature, not a bug. Not sure how to deal with that.

EDIT: Although, my empty lines here seem to work....

Your actual account should not have changed at all.
Please PM me with details.

Making it difficult to have proper formatting should never be a feature. I did notice that there's enough space between multiquoted posts to reply to them, but this wasn't the case when I hit "reply" for two separate posts by the same person. I had to go into BBCode to be able to reply to them as there was no room and no way to make room.

That's another thing. Push notifications should NEWER be on by default.

I'm strongly leaning to "no" on that, the next time I'm asked. It's bad enough that I have to put up with that at odd times from FB and some of my email (honestly, I don't need to be pinged every time there's a sale on Word Search magazines or when certain people have reacted/replied on FB). It would drive me into rage if I had any more of them, and given the contentious nature of some topics here that move quickly, it would be best if I don't come back already upset and annoyed for reasons that are absolutely not because of what anyone said.

I "fixed" it already (I have a spare e-mail, so I switched to it).
But when I first opened the forum today, I was unable to post anything "because I didn't have enough privileges to post".
And my account also asked me to "confirm the e-mail".
All fixed now (technically), so I won't bother with "details", but it WAS botched.
Also: I use Opera.

I use Opera as well, and haven't had any problems with this. Logging in went normally. That said, I almost never log out.

It's just you!!

We took a series of benchmarks before and after the change and they show a significant improvement in performance since the upgrade.

Hmm. Does this mean that I could actually consider perusing the video threads? I haven't much because they take a loooooong time to load.

It seems I cannot set that to "off" by default :/.

I just had this case with another member: If your initial email bounced (which can be, e.g. because for a while we allowed posters to register without a valid email), then your posting rights now get revoked. I don't know why. I can fix that easily though, if I get a notification about it.
EDIT: Turns out this affected in total 5 members, which should all be back to normal now.

Why would you ever allow registering without a valid email address? That's not good security practice. :nono:

They're gone now. I hope that it was on purpose.

Push notifications are pushy notifications that pop up no matter if you're currently here or not. You could be in the middle of a game or watching a video or reading an article and up comes some notification that someone posted something here in a thread you're participating in or a forum you're watching. It's very annoying, and the reason why anyone passing by my suite might occasionally hear me shout, "STFU already!" because they just will not stay "dismissed".

No, we decided to keep that one. There's a separate thread where we can discuss where we'd want to have it.

I love the black. It's perfect, and the first three posts have a good contrast in the font color. The fourth font color looks like a shade of brown and is basically unreadable. I might be able to read it better if I magnified the page, but it's a really bad contrast, as in there's basically no contrast. The color for selecting text works great in the first three. In the fourth, selecting the text makes the text turn white and the selection color is a lighter shade of brown.

Funny thing... my spell checker flagged the alphabet soup in the last post. But apparently it thinks "aefgaserg" is a real word! (at least there; it's flagged here) :crazyeye:

I've just tried a test reply and I can barely see what I typed (haven't submitted it). It's dark grey and would be really frustrating to work with.

I've noticed that you made the color for selecting text darker now, so that's much appreciated.

Now, about the red numbers telling me the number of unread conversations I have and the number of alerts... yesterday I could read them. Today they're microscopic, and that's on a magnified screen. Can they be larger, please?

We had issues for a while with sending emails, so we manually approved users instead. Not an issue anymore. I think this might have something to do with now expired email addresses, no idea. As mentioned, only 5 users were affected, so no problem.

Okay, that is good to hear. I'll have another go at it tomorrow or Friday.

 I actually don't think I changed anything there.
Although TF did some changes on the nav bar, might have something to do with that, no idea :/.

My favourite part about that test build is that it doesn't stretch across the entire page.
I remember at some point we had a fixed width style....
If we fix a width here, it'll cause issues on mobile devices, because these screens aren't big enough (at least that's roughly what TF says).
The alternative against a fixed width is a width relative to the screen size.
So these are basically the 2 options :dunno:.
(and my screen is tiny, I don't know how it looks on a e.g. 16:9 screen)

Aaaargh, the new commands and whatever ate half my post!

Ok, but I'm still not sure what they are. Because if they are something like what Valka describes:

Since the points are, well, pointless except for bragging rights, I fail to see why we should keep them anyway.

So, some things I've noticed while using this new software:

  • We have inline spoilers. This can be useful. Good.
  • Several tools such as remove link from text have been removed.
  • Also I cannot use the BBCode tag options if I'm viewing the raw code to find out why suddenly 80% of my post has become one big link as happened to me about an hour ago.

A thought: Didn't the indent tag also include a bit of spacing? Or was that only in vBulletin?

Fixed width could be useful. On some forums there is an option for <style #1 (full width> and <style #1 (fixed width)>.

I believe there is a way to set a maximum width in responsive designs, but I never bothered learning that when skinning myBB/phpBB, and wouldn't know where to start in something as seemingly opaque as Xenforo.

A theme with a percentage width could be nice, maybe. But would be a pain to institute until you've finished tweaking the base themes completely.

Right now it's at 98%. I'm considering having a fixed width style for one of the styles, to have at least one option for everyone.
I don't see more than one option there though, you can set the width either as percentage or as pixels :dunno:.

I'm not following, I'm afraid.

Where should i look for a dark theme?
White backgrounds are bad for the eyes on any site imo.
Fixing that issue with windows colors atm, but not optimal for other sites.

The_J is working on one. He's made a start; the background is the perfect shade of black. Some of the font colors are... not optimal (brown?).

I'm not following, I'm afraid.

When you activate BB Code mode in the new text editor, it grays out the BB Code bar and forces you to manually type in all code, as opposed to how it used to be: the bar still worked, and clicking one of the BB codes would just inject the code into the text field.

I completely agree. I have never understood why they are there.

I'm seeing that some threads have been marked as unread so people have bumped new threads and I'm taken to the beginning instead of to the new posts.
So the subscriptions page needs extra work.

When I am typing a reply here, there's the option to ‘toggle BBCode’. It's what I use to see, for example, why some error in the message's code results in the entire message being accidentally turned into a hyperlink.
Toggling BBCode allows me to see the message's source instead of WYSIWYG but doesn't allow me to use any of the other tools in the bar unless I turn back into WYSIWYG mode.

I checked, and I agree, this is indeed a bit stupid.
I don't see a way to change this though :/.

That weird behaviour is sadly not new, and I have no idea what's causing this :/.

So it looks like clicking to read one specific post by an ignored member will result in toggling ALL the ignored content on that page so it becomes visible. This is not good. I clicked on one post for clarity since it was otherwise impossible to figure out the context of the unignored person's post. Suddenly everything became visible, including posts I decidedly do not want to read.
