Found a cool little site called TinyURL.com.
You can take a long url like:
Code:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=tcp%2Fip+fundamentals
And turn it into this:
http://tinyurl.com/3vja9

of course it is even better when you take this:
Code:
http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?ed=_O.hjup_0Tpr5G0anS5zMMZc0eguzlJfeuyFWb713g--&csz=Philadelphia%2C+PA+19154-1715&country=us&new=1&name=Home&qty=
and turn it into this:
http://tinyurl.com/7ynct <- Where I live.

I used to like it, but now it's awful. It redirects your links through a server for no apparent reason, delaying direct access to the link. I find it sneaky and therefore I now patronize SmallURL instead.

Ecellent! An open invitation to stalk you, PH! :D

I've seen tinyurl used to link on newsgroups before, didn't understand the significance / usefulness. I guess for web-based newsreaders, long links tend to NOT get recognised in their entirety, especially ruing quoted posts etc. :hmm:

Which country is .tk ?

Is this Turkmenistan ? Tokelau ? Turkey ?
Or is it simply none of the above so that we can get it freely ?

tk is Tokelau

from wikipedia: Tokelau (ISO 3166-1: TK) is a group of three tropical coral atolls in the South Pacific Ocean, a territory of New Zealand.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokelau

The problem with .tk addresses is that when you open the link a popup appears or one tries to appear...

You can void that popup somehow...if you have .tk addresss...I remember someone showing me once how to supress it. It was as simple as putting some code in the <head> section of the document.
