Tolkien's Middle-Earth Modpack

Could we PLEASE have some Screenshots???!

Maybe this has been posted befor but ive goten it installed and i see the start up as the middle earth mod, but when i go to load a game it gets to 57% shows a Blank pop up and crashes to desktop. Any help like what i mite of done wrong?

P.s sorry agian if has been posted.

Hey, Eclipse. I think your mod pack is great but I have a problem. Whenever I try to go into a new game or quick start or anything else, it comes up with a box that has no text in it. I can't get rid of it any other way except clicking on the little "OK" circle. By clicking this, the game automatically quits. I have the same version that is required, and I made backup files and everything. Does anyone else have this problem?

Im downloading it at the moment...

but mainly to see what the units look like due to the fact that i have 1.29...

oh and if you get my thumbs up then you know that its good Tolkien stuff, as im a tolkein nut...

on a side note, do you have tom bombadil in it?

I am a newbie (although a veteran gamer) and will probably get flamed into oblivion for this post, but.....

With all due respect to Eclipse and the work that he has done, it has been over 3 months since he last posted on this forum, and over one YEAR since any of his work has been released on this forum.

Elipse has detailed how he is overloaded with work, and has now been promoted (usually that means even more work). Perhaps he is now too busy to put the time into this work that it needs.

I would suggest that some of the members of this forum should build upon his work and complete the mod (I seem to remember another member posting that he had started this project when Eclipse released his beta version and beat him to it?).

I have studied LOTR and once built a LOTR mod for an RPG. I would be more than happy to ASSIST someone in completing this mod as I am disabled (unemployed) and have lots of time.

Or someone else can do it (I have never tried editing a computer game before, though I am a fast learner). My point being that I think Eclipse no longer has the time needed to complete this project!!!

Considering the great work he has already done, I would not suggest this course of action unless it looked as if this beta mod were about to die an orphan!!

I was actually going to suggest that I could perhaps help to at least make the wondersplashes, and possibly some new models for the wonders in the birds-eye-view of the city...

i have a decent knowledge of 3d moddeling and could perhaps do a good job...

Actually, I would greatly appreciate that, Celeborn. The task of laying out the units, races, tech trees, Wonders I can probably handle. But I have not done any 3d modeling, only icon editing. As it is, I will have to learn the mechanics of the PTW editor. I'd just as soon not have to learn how to use modeling software as well. At least not at the same time.

I'll need up to 2 weeks to familiarize myself with the editor, Eclipse's work, and the work of the other Middle_earth mod for Civ3 run on a different board (no sense re-inventing the wheel).

Should this be written for Civ 3, or PTW?

I only have Civ3 (dont have enough cash to get PTW yet:cry: ). so it would be nice if you made it for Civ3 intead of just PTW (i maybe wrong, but if you mod it for plain Civ3, then PTW could also use it)

Ill also have a look at the wonders as i have some ideas for them. I might also try make some new birds eye view models of the basic improvments.

oh and by the by. there should be no airport replacement as it wont fir in a lotr eviroment.
and im thinking the ages should go, ages of trees/stars, first age of the sun, second age of the sun, third age of the sun. the fourth age wouldnt fit into the mod and would be difficult to do because we never find out enough about the fourth age.

The fourth age is now (the Age of Men).

Agreed that it would be easy to port it for PtW if made for Civ 3.

exactley if now is the forth age then it should not be in the mod, as to keep with the LotR feel better...

also do you think the great library could be replaced by the palintir(sp)

Wow! I am honored and sincerely thankful that so many people of enjoyed my modpack (even if in beta form) and I'll start off with an overdue apology to all those who have been eagerly awaiting it's final release.

I'll not even begin to get into what I've been doing for the past six month, since last looking into finishing the modpack, but I still hold myself solely responsible for completing it. For myself, and for the community, must this project be completed once and for all!

I'm currently in the process of completing my website where I plan to re-host this modpack and keep the updates there rather than beleaguering this immense post any more than it already has. I hope to wrap up the website this evening and welcome you to check it out...

Best Regards,
Eclipse

Great to have you back Eclipse! Look forward to the website! :D :D

Good luck for the website and the LOTR mod

Waiting with anticipation, and welcome back, Eclipse.

Actually, that is incorrect. The 4th age is the last age that tolkien documented, and was to the elves "the age of men" but it was not the final age. Tolkien believed we were near the end of the 6th or the beginning of the 7th age (WWII)

But its the idea that counts

Eclipse!! Welcome back. I am glad to see you return -- for two reasons.

The first is thst, since it is your mod and you have dome such a superlative job with it, no one could ever hope to do it justice but yourself.

The second, and more embarassing reason, I cannot work directly on your mod. I have not tried your mod since I upgraded my computer to Windows XP and Civ3PTW. I find that when I try to linstall your mod, it does nasty things to my computer (ie crashes the operating system).

I hope that when you complete your mod, you will include a version that works with XP and PTW.

As the the question raised before about what era the mod is set in, I vote for the beginning of the 4th era (age of man), SHORTLY after the ending of the 3rd era. That way, you get the best of both worlds, and it is close enough to the end of Tolkien's book that any changes are easy to incorporate. It's a mmot point though, since Eclipse's return -- he will set it when HE wishes.
