Not quite sure why we haven't bought some technology from Sumeria, at least to get us closer to the Middle Ages. We have a ton of cash and no real way to spend it for a while. So the first thing I do is make this deal:
I know the conventional wisdom says not to spend on technology when the Great Library is coming on-line but I look at the other nations in the game and realize that they aren't going anywhere fast. The conventional wisdom applies when you are really behind, but we are not behind, just behind-hand as we should have been buying and or researching sooner.
We need the commercial boost from a market in Constaninople to pay for our soon to be growing military and to pay our researchers.
We can't buy Construction....
Next item on my list to wonder about, is, why are we at war with the Germans, presumably to slow down their growth, so why aren't we using our allies in Sumeria to fight them for us? They can reach the German island across coastal squares. So I renew the Right of Passage at the same price of 5gpt and throw in an alliance against the Germans for a pot o' gold..
The Great Library finishes and Contstantinople starts a Wal-Mart.
And our Golden Age begins.
In 290 we learn Monarchy from the Sumerians and Chinese.
And in 250 we meet the Portugese south of the Iroquois/Celt home island. Henry is poor but not far behind technically. And open an embassy...
In 230 the Iroquois learn Construction and get a huge infusion of cash from somewhere so I relieve them of both:
We enter the Middle Ages and draw Montheism as our free tech which is worth bupkus in our trade opportunties with Gil.
The Marketplace finishes in Constantinople and it is worth 18gpt in our Golden Age plus another 6gpt in the reduction of luxury tax.
The Iroquois are busy settling the Isle of Pegasus as are the Aztecs.
In 190 Sumer and Aztecs sign a Peace Treaty. And our Dyes deal with Sumer expires. It costs +1gpt (to 5) to renew.
In 170-150 not much happens. Build a horse in Constantinople but forgot the barracks first, he loads onto a boat and heads for Adrianople where the Iro have a scouting swordsman.
