Are these conversations are really cool and have such nice uses! Thanks so much for all your time and effort on these!:)

Love dem flags! I just realized something interesting: I want to use them, so I probably will find a way to, which will be an extension to my modding approach - so the flags do indeed lead the charge!

EDIT/PS - See, already a thought! I envision Roman Standards in the Teutobergerwald ...

Is an AoW:SM unit.

So that's where you got that sweet balloon - there are some nice air units in there, like the Air Galley and the Forceship...

Actually they have a ton of really nice nice units.

Can you get a Pit Guard from that game? Colored green, he'd make a passable Thark*, a unit we've been looking for. At least he'd be a useable placeholder. At least he's got four arms, and that's a start.

*Fifteen foot tall Green inhabitant of Barsoom, seen here fighting plant men with John Carter

These are almost all the AoW Shadow Magic units that Can be converted, because most are non-directional graphics. The problem with AoW units is that they use a hex, and they only go in 6 directions, so they are missing sprites for either E/W or N/W (can't remember which it is, I think it's E and W).

It's a pity, because all of those units are great, but no way to use them with Civ3 :(

I will spell out the whole name of the game, instead of abbreviating it. I didn't even think about it. Many probably don't know what AoW:SM stands for :)

Don't worry though, I'm going to start rendering Kohan units today, I'm pretty sure there are orcs, hellish fiends, workers, animals, undead and a whole horde of other units. I couldn't find a unit list online though to link here.

Ah, I see. Too Bad.

I didn't until I googled it.

That's good news.

I've begun rendering Units from Kohan II, there are; from the looks of it; about 170+ units. Each doesn't take long to render, since I have gone about another rendering method, which renders about 8x as fast compared to what I was doing before, but looks the same (if not better).

The problem with doing these, is that 3ds Max (i can't find at least) a way to setup a script to have it render, or change the angle and continue doing renders in all 8 directions. I have to do it myself, then batch render all the frames. These small breaks slow me down. I'll have to look around for some type of sprite rendering plug-in or script to perhaps do this.

I did a test run on the Phaadyr unit:

The unit came out great... but the shadow rendering I used sucks.

Phaadyr.gif

I didn't use Raytraced, so I'll have to figure out how to fix that so shadows aren't blotchy and all over the place. If it takes longer to render, so be it.

Also, for some reason, when I rotated the model, all other directions except for SE 'slide'. As seen below:
phaadyr2.gif

I have no idea why either, I'll have to figure that out as well.

Otherwise, once I get all the 3ds Max nonsense figured out, I believe I should be able to do each unit in an hour or so. If I can't get it figured out myself (I'm no expert at this here), then it may take awhile for me to ask my dumb questions in a 3ds Max forum somewhere.

Tom

It looks to me, Tom, like the slide may be caused by the relationship of the character's club to the top of the frame. Maybe the program is moving the unit down to make room for the club at the top? Just a WAG.

As for the shadows, they look fine to me. Real shadows aren't as dense as they're usually made to be in CGI anyway.

wow tom it looks like a poser unit

The model is not ultra-high quality either. I was surprised it looks as good as it does

See... that little snippet of info just solved that problem! Thank you! The slide, as you stated, was due to the character's club :) The club was a seperate piece from the character's body, so all I had to do was group them together. The slide problem solved!

Now I can mess with the shadows a bit, and have this unit released by tonight hopefully. Each will have at least 12 FLC's come with it. Then start on the next 170 units. :crazyeye:
EDIT: Figured out the shadows... will post a new preview soon, hopefully along with the unit.

BTW: There are alot of 'portraits' with animations also... I will see if it's possible to make leaderheads out of them all.

Tom

Okay, first unit done... but I will upload tomorrow, still need to do INI and PCX. And I am way too tired right now.

Also, I don't have sounds for any of these units... :( So I don't know what to do about that.

Here's the finished gif of Phaadyr :) Shadows fixed, and no 'sliding'. I'm not 100% happy with Shadows, they are off just a bit, I won't redo this one, but will fix shadow angle in next unit.

EDIT: Image removed, you can see it in the post below.

Description: Once one of the greatest defenders of the Drauga tribes in the Waste, Phaadyr was captured and corrupted by the Well of Shadow. Now the enormous, feral Fallen warrior serves only the forces of chaos and exists only for the thrill of slaughter.

Will come with: Cast, Death1, Death2, Default, Default-Cast, Default-Melee, Fidget, Melee1, Melee2, Run, and Walk FLC's.

On a side note: I think I am officially finished converting the Infinitum GIF files... there are way too many problems with them... in particular the offsets. Each direction is not centered properly, and centering them correctly is a huge pain (I have to go through each direction of every single animation and measure/adjust the image canvas to center it in the right spot {which is 50+ times for each unit}... takes forever). It takes longer than these renders take. Some are okay, but it is noticable in game when they change directions; and they have no shadows either. I would rather buy the games and render the 3d models because they come out that much better looking... and the PCX files won't be blurred messes either.
