As a 12 year old, I played pinball, at 14 (I think) it was Asteroids, Donkey Kong, and Pac Man. Got my first computer, an Atari 400 back in 1981 (?)
The very first multi-player game I played was M.U.L.E.
The second was Colonial Conquest.
Yeah yeah, I'm old as dirt.
But I dont feel over the hill yet, heck, 12 % of you are over 40!
I hope to at least play CIV XVI at least once before I kick the bucket.
I've been playing Civ since I was 13 and now I just can't seem to stop playing it. I have Civ3, Play the World and Conquests and am downloading any coll mods I see on this site. I'm Also a yung un

been playing games for 50 years ... I've played 'Civilization' since the mid 70's - mine is a pre-release of the boardgame from Hartland-Trefoil (1829 et.al) ... wrote a simple text based 'civ' game on my Atari 800 circa 1981 ... got all Civs & most similar type games on PC (shame CTP2 always crashed) ....
I have been playing games ever since Pong first came out. I picked up Civ2 for my son, he did not like it. (I bought all the expansions for it) I decided not to totally waste the money and started playing it myself. This was back when it first came out. I have been hooked pretty much ever since. I did stop playing for a while until Conquests showed up.
I am going on 50 and this is an interesting poll. Thanks to whoever made it.
WOW someone else who owned an Atari!! Excellent to read that. My first PC was the Atari 400 with 16k of ram, and that crappy cassette storeage device that seldom saved my programming.
Did you also own the Atari ST line? I owned Atari 400, 2 800's, 4 800 XL, one 130XE, 1 Atari 520ST modified, and 1 1040 ST made into a smaller verison of the TT. Still have my 520ST and monitor in my garage. The Atari PC was the best one ever made in my opinion.
Yes, started with the 400, then got a 1200XL, then a 130XE, finally a 1040 ST before breaking down and getting my first PC, a 386.
And yes, Richter, all my poor friends had Amigas. Guess whose house they were always over at, playing Pirates! on?
I had it connected directly to a synthesizer, all midi music came out sounding like a harpsichord.. miss those days.. Ah, but Pirates! 2 is coming out this winter!! Cant wait!
I had a 800XL, never went any farther with it. But I was in love with the 1040ST. Would have liked to have one of those.
Actually, Det, Commodores were a lot more popular in the us. There was one other guy I knew with an Atari, but there were quite a few Commodore users. I guess we're not as ashamed of our Atari's as the Commodore users are of the 64's. /me ducks....
@Elgalad: hmmmm, my nostalgic love swapped over me. Pirates!, i loved that game when i was young and me and my friends played many many hours with our 'bread boxes'. My C-64 works still and sometimes, i play the original Pirates!
@Turner_727: You can buy an 1040ST with monitor and games for 1 on the german Ebay site. I can really understand why you are ashamed of your Atari time.
I also had a C-64 with the "datasette" (cassette recording device, don't know if you called it the same). All I can remember is playing Pit Stop II, Falcon Patrol, several soccer games, etc. I really do not remember much more, but almost all the games I had were arcades. I did not discover strategy games until I bought a 286 and someone got me Civilization.
I'll chime in here again, as a formoor Atari owner.
I started out with a 400/16K, and continued through the 800 and the 130XE. Those were some of the best machines I ever owned, until I started building my own PCs.
@Detlef: Atari had the better machines, Commodore had the better marketing....
