In your opinion, who are the Top 10 Worst Dictatorsi n today's world? Also, specify your reasons for choosing each dictator.

My list:
1. Saddam Hussein of Iraq - killed more than 500,000 people (including ethnic Kurds - his "ethnic cleansing program" - south Iraqi Shi'ites, political opponents/critics, and lots of others, even if they were compeltely innocent), was willing to poison his own people during the gulf war and blame their deaths on the allied forces.
2. Kim Jong Il of North Korea - impisons many people, also killed some 150,000 people just for being born - part of his campaign for the repression and torture of descendants of political opponents.
3. Edited for trolling.
4. The Ayatollah (supreme religious ruler) of Iran (I don't know his name) - repressive politics and policies, discrimination against women, little freedom.
5. Saparmurat Niyazov "Turkmenbashi" of Turkmenistan - day-to-day repression of many people (imprisons polticial opponents and critics, and exiles or ostracizes relatives), an almost ridiculous cult of personality (renamed two months after himself), statues of him all over the country...
6. Charles Taylor of Liberia - tortures, forced labor, rape...
7. King and Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia (don't know their names) - they still don't reform and modernize the country (women are still repressed). One of the more recent scandals is when one of the schools was on fire - the girls were forbidden to escape because the boys were allowed to leave the inferno first and the gov't and school people didn't want the boys and girls to interact, as a result 15 or so girls ended up getting burns.
8. Than Shwe of Burma (or Myanmar) - repressive military dictatorship which held free elections in 1990 but when a pro-democracy party won the majority of the vote, the gov't voided the election results and have been ruling absolutely without elections since then.
9. Teodore Obiang Nguema of Equatorial Guinea - arrests and tortures political opponents, disrespects human rights, most of the GDP of $4676 goes to him while the average worker/citizen takes home less than $2 a day.
10. Muammar Al-Quaddafi of Libya - constant repression, supports terrorism.
Moderator Action: And you sir, best look up what dictator menas, BEFORE you stink up this OT again.

*Troll removed*.

 france has oil contracts endangered by a war in Iraq, not the US, if anyone wands to get profit out of Iraq, its France, by keeping saddam in power. Bush is not a dictator, he was democratically elected and there are things called checks and balances in the american political system.

You know what? I hate Bush. But that doesn't make him a tyrant. He was elected and I respect that. And I'll be honest, I would prefer to have him as a president than the Ayatollah as my religious ruler.

edit: I'll will post my list if this thread will live 2 days.

I think you miss Slodovan Milosevic, Pinochet, Nicholas Cheasescu (sp?)...there are too many! :crazyeye:

:D

Sounds like someone's been ripping off ideas from that mainstay of Sunday U.S. newspapers everywhere, Parade, which this week published a list of its 10 worst dictators.

As relentlessly All-American as People usually is, I was stunned to see Saddam ranked only third. Here's the list:

1) Kim Jong Il, North Korea.
2) King Fahd and Crown Prince Abdullah, Saudi Arabia.
3) Saddam Hussein, Iraq.
4) Charles Taylor, Liberia.
5) Than Shwe, Burma.
6) Teodoro Obiang Ngueme, Equatorial Guinea.
7) Saparmurad Niyazov, Turkmenistan.
8) Muammar Al-Qaddafi, Libya.
9) Fidel Castro, Cuba.
10) Alexander Lukashenko, Belarus.

I think Bush is a bully in international affairs, completely ignoring the UN.

He saying "We will break an infinite amount of UN regulations to make sure that Iraq isn't breaking UN regulations."

Kinda ironic, no?

Maybe not a dictator in the USA, but to other countries, a dictator indeed.

Here is my list!

1. Simon Darkshade, Australia.
2. *Humor edited*
3. Jiang Zemin, China.
4. Robert Mugabe, Zimbabawe.
5. Saddam Hussein, Iraq.
6. Kim Jong Il, North Korea.
7. Muammar Al-Qaddafi, Libya.
8. Aslan Maskhadov, Chechnya.
9. Fidel Castro, Cuba.
10. Ricardo Lagos, Chile.

Number two is a joke, of course, to keep in with the OT atmosphere!
Actually for number two, I would nominate Zemin, of China.
And to make it up to ten; Charles Taylor, of Liberia!

I would definitely put China as #1 the Saudi Monarchy in as #2 Robert Mugabe as #3. Other then that I dont know...

Besides finding it laughable that GWB is on the list, its even worse that he is above people that support rape, terrorism, and slavery.

Some of you liberals just exaggerate WAY too much.

Funny how the USA was so chummy with the Saudi Monarchy, in the wake of the 1991 Gulf War.

What happened to end that love affair?

Calling me a liberal? What a classic!
I am about as liberal as the men on my list!

Can't you see a jest when you read one?
I suggest you unwind, and develop a sense of sarcasm.
