Top 5s with updated thinking

Top 5 reasons OT threads are closed:
  1. Spam thread that has not previously been designated as OK
  2. Ongoing animosity
  3. Outdated necro when a new one would be better
  4. An existing thread is a better home
  5. A banned topic

0 isn't one, though. It has to be positive, like forum posting ^_^
I think there's debate on that

I certainly remember first year at university in a math class the professor talking several times about how it's kinda up in the air if 0 is a natural number or not. Or down to personal preference

I'd like to make a top 5 but can't think of a topic

It is pretty typical to use two notations for the set of natural numbers, to signify if you are including zero there. Ultimately, it is neither positive nor negative, and use of axis further promotes that.

iirc, the set of natural number without zero is N*. "*" is to signify it's Z+

according to wiki:
Some definitions, including the standard ISO 80000-2,[3][a] begin the natural numbers with 0, corresponding to the non-negative integers 0, 1, 2, 3, ..., whereas others start with 1, corresponding to the positive integers 1, 2, 3, ...[4] Texts that exclude zero from the natural numbers sometimes refer to the natural numbers together with zero as the whole numbers, while in other writings, that term is used instead for the integers (including negative integers).
and what I learnt in primary school, and recently with set theory book, natural number includes zero

Probably because in set theory the empty set has 1 (not element, state), so has a positive amount (not in, tied to it) :) It is a usual logic in probability theory, since "nothing can happen" is still 1 distinct state.

More generally, when a group is not self-reflecting, it can treat 0 as nothing at all, but when another group is identifying elements of the first group this isn't the case. Such is also visible in the famous paradox of "the set of all sets that don't include themselves", because by definition that set has to be self-reflecting and so can neither include itself in itself nor exclude it.

Never read any of those. Should I? Last book I read was about Rewilding, before that Terry Pratchett.

I mean I'd like them so I'd say yes. Victoria and growth of the soil I can't like, say anything one way or the other if the english translation is any good, or if it's diminished them in any way.

My easy reccomendation is 100 years of solitude, which is a page turner despite being a nobel winner lol
