Tough times to be a fascist

Fascism always starts out looking so good; a little national pride, a lot of we just want to be left in peace, and a fair sprinkle of safety and security.

Even as it starts to be revealed in some 'peace through strength' sloganeering and an occasional question about just how much of a threat was that that we just stomped out it seems to do okay for itself.

But as of today, times are hard.

Israel is basically beating the snot out of the Palestinians in Gaza, and people trying to justify their actions as anything beyond 'might makes right and they clearly can beat the snot out of them so why not' are forced into such backflips of logic that they could double as a circus act.

Law enforcement is run so far amok in the US that apologists for the cops are pitching 'no the cops would not shoot you if you were pointing an assault rifle at people's heads and yelling that you were going to kill them'... a line that PT Barnum would tell them can't be marketed because there is only one born every minute and that would call for waaaaaaay more.

And then they have on their side a guy who is so far gone that he thinks 'no we don't want to rule them, just killing any dissenters to a puppet government that allows us to exploit all their resources' is a cleaner approach, and openly says so in his own defense. They must feel like they've walked into Judge Roy Bean's court and found out their public defender doesn't speak English.

In sympathy for our local fascists, and because I have some real life things on for this weekend that require my fullest concentration, I will be off for a couple days. I count on the vast number of sensible people hereabouts to remember...the lurkers are always watching, so no matter how many times the fascists demonstrate that their position is indefensible it still has to be refuted when they express it again, as they always do. Carry on.

Not a modern day facism boils down to something thread. You disappoint me.

You know, I may have remarked about fascism before in the past...

A touch of fascism is a good thing. Nice to see companies showing some interest in the well-being of their nation, eh?
Just a touch of fascism is not a bad thing. :)
A little touch of fascism is a good thing :)
I like the way you think! Like I've always said, a little touch of fascism is a good thing. :goodjob:
SERVICE GUARANTEES CITIZENSHIP!

By the way, regarding the two fascist comments, I think you guys will find a few examples of me stating that a little touch of fascism is a good thing!

I cannot think what a fascist would boil down into, but I believe experimentation should be authorized.

bhsup, when I tried to lump you in with the fascists you made me apologize, for which I have no regrets. Your fascism is firmly lodged in your cheek and held there by your tongue.

Fascism is awesome...

In call to power 2. Seriously OP government, once I stopped using democracy and used fascism instead, game got even easier.

Fascism boils down to self pride?

Fascism is awesome and as a reward for being the first to research it you get a great general and you can build Mount Rushmore and it allows permanent alliances. It is a must have tech to get. Plus it enables a Police State so you can eliminate your enemies without annoying your population and you can built units faster. It is absolutely awesome, you should try it.

Fascism no longer has any coherent definition, it would seem. It's become little more than a derogatory term.

I'm willing to go with radical authoritarian nationalism myself. It's coherent and concise and covers the territory well enough.

Are there many radical authoritarian nationalists on this forum?

A few years ago I had a bit of entertainment from arguing online with brain dead BNP supporters, and watching all their ridiculous youtube videos.

Now no one even remembers who they are, the UKIP have taken over, and tbh Id vote for UKIP, but I cant be bothered to vote for anyone.

BNP were like - OMG THERES BROWN / BLACK SKINNED PEOPLE WITH BEARDS AND DESERT CLOTHES ALL OVER THE UK!!!!1111 ITS THE END OF DEMOCRACY!

UKIP are like - OMG THE EU ISNT DEMOCRATIC AND WE DONT NEED IT AND IT SUX, WE WANT TO GTFO ... But Scotland, please don't leave us.

Fascists tend not to be reactionary but rather pro-active in terms of the BS they dish out to neighbouring states. Just look at the history of fascist states, I'm not sure why you wouldn't have.

If fascism were a stew the ingredients would be

a spoonful of racism
a heaping of nationalism
a cupful of belief in the infallibility of the government
a quart of distrust of liberty
and a whole lot of wealth, because they have obviously been sheltered from the ugly face of the government if they believe their government is perfect enough to sacrifice all of their freedom to.

Actually, at this point China would be the definition of a fascist government.
Aggressive foreign policy check
racism check
totalitarian government check
severely restricted freedom check
economic freedom check

Fascism sucks in Civ4. Permanent alliances just drag you down. Universal suffrage combined with free speech is better.

Not really sure about 'aggressive foreign policy'. I'm trying, but I can't recall China involved militarily in anything, or even rattling the saber in my lifetime...vague reaching into the depths...border disputes with India, maybe? And if they are going to get aggressive they sure don't show much planning ahead for it, unless you figure they believe the US will let them.
