Trailer for the 2016 movie: WARCRAFT...

‘Objectively speaking, my tastes are the best’?
Naaah, that's silly, opinions and tastes can never be objective. :nono:

I however have transcended opinions and gotten to a level of objective truth when it comes to evaluating soundtracks. :bounce:

Ah, I see. You are a superior being.

One could phrase it that way, but let's be honest here: That sounds rather cocky. :mischief:

Am I the only one who's pumped for the movie? I don't expect anything, just some cheesy popcorn. It didn't work for me in The Hobbit because it was so jarring next to the Fellowship of the Ring (LotR 3 was, too), but the CGI is very good and there's a hot orc chick and all. Popcorn cheese.

I'm not pumped for this movie, but I may see it with the GF (we sometimes play world of warcraft together in a very casual way since she's not good at computer games). Although this movie seems to focus on Warcraft lore and not World of Warcraft? To be honest, I don't pay attention to the lore much in World of Warcraft. The problem with MMO's is all the time filler BS quests make the "plot" so disjointed, you can't remember what the overall story is. The Old Republic also has this problem despite having more of a plot. After doing so many run around quests, I can't remember what the main plot of the zone is.

Long story short, I'm just going to check it out for orcs versus humans. I'll check my brain at the door.

On the timeline the movie is set during the original Warcraft-game, the First War.

World of Warcraft starts 4 Years after the Defeat of Archimonde, which was the final event of the third war (Featured in WC3).

If I remember correctly we see

/edit: Well, I guess technically that's a spoiler...

Spoiler :
Llane dead in one of the trailers

...which is listed as an event happening in year 4, so depending on how long the movie continues after that we have 21 -X years between the movie and the start of World of Warcraft.

Supposedly, yes, yet the first game definitely did not have any friendly orcs allying with the humans. Nor did the second game (don't know about WCIII's lore) Also, apparently this movie does not end with a total human defeat (and maybe it ends with a stalemate or better).

MMO plots never make sense. I mean you go kill arthas and you can keep killing him over and over every week for more loot lol. The mechanics of it all mean story goes out the window a bit.

Never play an MMO for the plot. Play it for the drops!

I found the movie really stupid but kinda awesome still. Was a little bored, I really hate that I'm not 15, I would've eaten the movie up!

The movie got horrid reviews. Normally that's not a thing that dissuades me from seeing a movie but combined with the less than stellar trailers and my decreasing loyalty toward Blizzard, it will.

The film has like 82% audience approval contrary to the 25% critical approval on Rotten Tomatoes. It's worth a watch, it's just messy and cheesy and not very deep. As long as you go into the movie like that, bring some popcorn and some fantasy-digging friends, and don't take it too seriously.

Well, yes, it is based on a game. Still, the CGI was Awesome, and i liked that it doesn't follow the trope that

all good guys survive.
.

Maybe i expected it to be far worse, but i did like this film. Wasn't bored, and it lasts for 2 hours, which felt like less :) It is about as deep as game of thrones, imo ( :o ). Just more gamey.. Gore was good

On the other hand, the main audience is made of Blizzard fanboys who manage to stay subscribed through garbage like WoD, so their opinion is hardly something to rely on...

I only see Orcs (no "k", it's not Warhammer even if it was originally :p) to bash their skulls in anyway :p

Well, you have to remove mechanics from story. If you kill Arthas he's dead, story-wise, if you go back next week to kill him again that's not part of the story anymore. Simple.

Not that WoW does a particularly good job at end-game story-telling, that's probably one of its weaknesses. Final Fantasy XIV for example does seem to do a much better job at that.

About the movie... to be honest: I thought the movie was amazing.

It's a bit like... a tour through a wonderland with tons of references and gimmicks along the way. Having played tons and tons of WoW back when the game was good I was like: "Whoooaaaaa... I know that place - but now it's big and epic!" every 2 Minutes or so. It felt a lot like starting out with WoW a second time... well, just without having to press F5 for hours, hoping to be among the lucky ones who manage to register their account and login. 8)

But I see why it didn't resonate well with the critics. It's cheesy from time to time (and it's fitting because so is all of Warcraft, but assuming most movie critics are not lovers of the Warcraft-Universe, is probably feels awkward to them), there's tons of characters that just rush by if you don't know the lore, and the plot itself isn't that strong.

The visuals though.

WoW has certainly devolved into a cash-grab that no sane person should be playing these days, but to claim that it started off like that sounds weird to me.

I admit I am insane. I'm playing the game again. I just don't purchase any of the gimmick things they are selling. I have never been to the Blizzard store actually. The game isn't as good as the BC days, but sometimes nostalgia just pulls me in. It's still damn fun. And they did do one major improvement over the BC days which the LFG system. I still miss the old talent system though.

I'll be seeing the movie here in a few hours. I think I'll enjoy it.
