Training game emphasizing trading - Emperor

Nice going. On to Athens!!!

Now is as good a time as any to do some intense micro-management. We have changed governments and can use the Policeman. Look for opportunities to increase either commerce or shields by hiring cops in cities that are long food. In towns with commercial improvements like banks a cop or two is often more effective in raising revenue than a tax collector but it depends on the town so each has to be examined in detail. In locations that have factories the cop can add shields to the output. A good example is the town with a factory that is one or two shields short of an optimal number, using a single cop can usually recover the needed shields lost to waste.

Will download the save and play tonight. I haven't looked at this save or the one prior, but it seems our war effort turned around remarkably fast, to become quite a winning campaign. How'd y'all do that? I love the power of cops in C3C. Will definitely put them to use.

The key is to be defensive, not losing any units until you can launch a successful attack.

Every turn Greece will send 3-5 units to attack your cities, most are rifles and don't make it in one turn but cav do. Every turn use the cannons (no more trebs I upgraded them) to bomb all attackers, use the rest to bomb the boats trying to blockade us. Then use the elite cav to look for leaders, found 1 during my turnset. The more armies we have over there the faster it will go. My attack group is just armies, both armies together were able to kill 4 rifles and take the last city.

Stick with the goals of taking Smith (East of Athens), Athens and stealing their dyes and that should cripple them.

And the most corruption we have is <50% per city, therefore every city is can now profit from a market.

I love it!!! Leader farming at it's best. Smith's will be the lethal blow to Greece and to think we don't even have real arty yet!
Great work DL! Go get 'em War...Peacemonger.

We've got trouble -- and I'm only a couple turns in. Russia declared as soon as I hit <Enter>. Armies were REDLINED attacking Corinth, defended by Infantry. No navy to combat all of Cathy's ships coming at us from multiple fronts, or Alex's frigate assaults. (bombing the s--t out of those frigates with cannons sends them home a turn but of course doesn't take them out). Tokyo actually defected on turn 2 or 3. Japan signed onto an embargo with Russia (doesn't really hurt us, but the world and RNG are clearly not on our side this evening). I am stopping for the night to catch my breath.

Just checked the 1400 save and your right Russia did attack. We might want to stop the war with Greece now because they have Inf, they won't get anything better for a while now. With our new production base we can now pump out many units in a short period of time (say 20 turns ;)). Russia would also be a good easy target to kill until they get Inf. You may want to consider getting an alliance with Greece against Russia along with the peace agreement to stop trade between them.

And don't worry about the RNG, its out of your control and besides think of all the better numbers you will get later because you got bad numbers now .

T0 1400
Assess troop locations. Smith’s is in Corinth. Dyes by Sparta further North. Tech situation is thusly:
Japan – well, we can just ignore them. The rest of the players all have Fascism. Additionally,
Spain – Corporation and 27g
Netherlands – We’re even in techs, zero gold, lacking Horses and Coal, Incense, Ivory
Russia – Corporation and Electricity and 7,652. Also Furs. Lack Coal, Incense, Ivory
Greece – Corporation and Electricity and 3,248. Lack Coal, Incense, Ivory
Will wait to see what we can extract from Greece for peace once we meet our mili objectives before engaging in trading. As a price check – corps are WM + 2110 from Spain. Fascism WM+3127.
MM all over the empire, which takes forever. But, honestly most towns are in ok shape. Only a handful with serious excess food to turn specialist. Ise gets a harbor for growth. Ok, all sussed out, time to live down my moniker. Hit Enter.

IBT -- #$%!# Catherine declares war. Greece injures our troops in Inchon and takes New Caldiz (defeated the one rifle there with a cav).

T1 1405
Zoom some defenders toward New Saldiz, threatened by the Russians. Take out the counterattacking units by Inchon, retake New Caldiz and plant Army at feet of Corinth.

IBT, New Cirta razed. Catherine about to land on multiple fronts, and we hardly have enough defenders on our mainland.

T2 1410
Shuffling troops to attempt to prepare defense. Army is REDLINED trying to hit Corinth. They are defended by infantry; Greece has Replaceable Parts.

IBT Tokyo deposes. Redlined armies are taken out. This is the worst RNG treatment ever.

T3 1415
More defensive warring.

IBT Japan and Russia embargo.

T4 1420
Crying uncle. We can get an alliance vs Russia and Electricity for 2648. Done. Spain has researched or ought Electricity so no trade value there. William will give us Corporation, but not Fascism. He won’t embargo Russia but he will join the Alliance. Done. Spain appears to have an MPP with Russia so she’ll be in this soon too.

IBT Dutch take out a Russian ship. Spain declares on Dutch. Cossack dies attacking us.

T5 1425
Greece has Refining. Working on rebuilding troops.

IBT, yes Russia has RP. They drop an infantry on our shores. Spain declares on Greece. We’ll lose wines once they declare on us.

T6 1430
Spain now has RP, but not refining. Let’s see what possible monopoly on Refining costs. 3476 + 62gpt. We are essentially buying at research cost. I won’t steal because no way can we afford the war. Not too concerned about using the cash because we have no defensive units to speak of to upgrade, may as well build them, and can’t use cash to rush. We will rebuild treasury quickly at our +232gpt anyway. Spain will give us the RP we need for adequate defense but has no cash to spare. We take it. William has nothing worth offering. I am doing this deal now because I just don’t know how long before we are at war with Spain and will no longer be able to trade. Catherine is not speaking to us, so it may be a bit before we can get a tech from her in the peace deal and even then no guarantees on the discount. I figured we need the infantry tech ASAP. We are back at parity (except for Fascism) unless Russia has something we don’t know about, in which case we can try for it in the peace.

T7 1435
Not much. Building stuff. Not ready for an offense vs Russia yet.

IBT, Spain wants to trade territory maps. Fine. Greece/Japan embargo against us is over.

T8 1440
More of same. Tried to see if we could recoup any gpt with Greece for lux but all they’ll offer s a lousy 350straight up. So, pass.

IBT, Cathy is building ToE. That is significant. She’s doing it in Novgorod.

T9 1445
Nothing happens. Remembered we have civil engineers now and rejiggerred some of the specialists accordingly where we could shave turns off builds. Russia is apparently distracted by her other enemies, though I keep shuffling troops each turn based on where her ships look to be headed.

T10 1450
Nothing new. Catherine landed at Inchon, but the art/cannons have her under control. We will soon be in a position to make an offensive move against her, and she’s pretty well occupied in the meantime. Mil Acad will be built soon, so we can ensure we are fighting with armies. As our treasury builds up we can upgrade more cannons to art (it’s expensive – 150 a pop). Some builds are set to frigates – I think we need more navy. Spain still hasn’t declared, since we haven’t taken offensive wth Russia? The Stain of Tokyo in our lands can be addressed whenever. I’ve done some foresting in the tundras. We should also take stock of where we mined prior to electricity and might want to water now instead.

Looks like a good set given the duplicitous nature of the other nations.

Keeping our troops out of Russian territory was an excellent move as it kept Spain from declaring war. The next trick is to get Spain into war with Russia....

What do think about an MPP with Spain, then waiting for Russians to make a landing? That will pull her into the Russian war....

Not so sure about the MPP, as she's already been dragged in against Greece and the Dutch on behalf of Cathy; we'd be fighting on multiple fronts again as soon as Alex or Willie did her some harm.

Making MPP will do harm to our alliance rep in no time.Given Dutch and Spain are beating each other, and we need both of them to fight Russians,an MPP with Spain will force our declaring on Dutch, and ruin our rep

Good round Peacemonger.
I hate MPP's. I vote no to MPPs. We are generating cash to buy MA's where we need them. Can we buy Greece into this mix?
As Peacemonger said to reach our goal the navy needs more involvement. I also think upgrading arty is worth the cost for it is so devasating. You can win with cav vs tanks and inf with arty barrages.

We got Greece into it as part of our peace deal with them. We got Netherlands into it as part of a tech deal. So, it is us allied with Greece and Netherlands vs Russia. Russia has MPP with Spain, and therefore Spain has declared on Greece and Netherlands (but not yet on us, based on our solely defensive posture to date -- it is just a matter of time though). Sorry if all that was not clear in the log.

Bede--it may also be useful for one of your legendary war maps to be discussed.
Peacemonger--It was clear. My bad. Maybe I need take Reading 101 at one of our fine universities. :)

Got it and will try to post some notions tonight...

Not much to map. We have no troops to speak of that are any place useful. The battle at Corinth really hurt. And I am surprised that our outpost still stands. We need to get troops and artillery across the sea and into the outpost. Then we need to hunker down and not even think about atttacking the Russians 'till their MPP with Spain expires. The next twenty turns should be spent getting artillery, infantry and cavalry built. So we can take on Greece with a better chance of success. Or, building our infrastructure, acquiring Espionage for the SPHQ, and building cash towards the availability of Motorized Transport. Even with artillery support trying to take down Greece's pop12 cities is going to be just plain tough sleddin' unless we can wreck their access to rubber.

One of the things that is causing us problems and potential future problems are the number of furriners in our northern cities, I would get out the whip big time and produce culture, trying to get the foreign population down to one. There is a double benefit as we get something built and we reduce the conversion risk. Had it been up to me I would have starved and/or whipped the furriners as soon as the resistance ended.

Unless somebody can come up with three good reason to play Whacka Russkie on their island, I wouldn't even consider a landing there. It will cost us us Spain as a trade partner or theft victim (no Espionage, so no CIA, so no spys, so no stealing from active enemies)

@peace, I gather from the log that Corinth was attacked without any support from cannon or rifles. That was a big :nono:. Cavalry armies against rifles in pop12 cities are iffy enough and without something to either soften up the defenders or reduce the population....All I can say is that it wasn't the RNG that hurt....

I know that bringing the cannon and defenders along slows things down, on the other hand it does reduce the failure rate.

We also need a bigger navy.....

At some point we should also just take Toku out.

So our critical few include
1. Build military. Cav and inf within the core. Arty all around.
2. Develop our navy on the coasts.
3. Banks where they are useful.
4. Starve the dang furriners.

lurker's comment: illiterate idiots implore you for illustrious illustrations... the simple people need pix... hint...

Haven't read many of the prior pages, but after reading the posts, I thought the sky was falling

The only tech you're down is fascism.

Greece has 16k gold?!

Future wars are to grab lux.

MM is a little off in Hadrumeturm. Looks good everywhere else after a quick peek....

Go whack Toku in a few turns.

My $.02

I presume we waiting on Rik's report? We better get him a city to keep him happy. ;) Also Bede will need a breather after Sid 7+1!!
