The town suddenly found themselves whisked back to the weird place full of epic battles and portals. The now twelve remaining weren't at all surprised to find that the battles were even more epic, with the remaining landscape starting to appear desolate from lots of explosions. They also expected more portals.
But not this many.
The portals nearly covered the entire sky now, with easily more portal-filled sky than blue, which caused the entire world they were currently in to be bathed in a dazzling swirl of colors that made it look like the entire dimension was tripping balls.
One of them noted that a battle currently taking place nearby appeared to have several players from another universe of a strange game called "mafia" played often on the internet, but they had all lived in the 2000's. Presumably they were somehow re-enacting some of the more epic moments from those times.
Suddenly, out of one of the portals, appeared God:
"I FIND THE LACK OF ACTIVITY OF SOME OF YOU MAFIA PLAYERS DISTURBING. NOW, FACE MY WRATH!"
The town tried to figure out what the hell that meant, when suddenly the "mafia" players from the nearby battle attacked them. Before they could even react, they faced one of the mafia players' great champions, the almighty, ChandRobSprigAskLogicRenataNiklasPinHughesRunnerAuroSmith. While they took this sight in, the champion hurled incredible amounts of missiles, Jedi Powers, Fall From Heaven Magic, Tigers, and Food Cannons at them.
Most escaped, but Lambda Ignaceae was turned into a fine paste by this onslaught, and SouthernKing spontaneously combusted from the sheer awesomeness of this.
Terran Emperor escaped the blast, only to be smashed by God's Giant Foot, incinerated by a Ray of Light, thrown into space, torn apart by Orcs, Eaten by Space Dolphins, and beaten up by Batman, all at the same time.
The rest of the town hoped they didn't attract the ire of any more of the mafia players, or God, while they tried one last time to figure out who was killing them.
