Well, it's not as if anyone outside the country can do anything else but point and laugh/cry.

At this point, I have no idea whether that's a joke or not.
Ofc it's not. They look at Putin and say "That's exactly what I want for ma Murica, a strong and eternal leader, a pharaoh, a Caesar, an Emperor"

Which is of course why they choose an overweight man who is almost 80 as their new immortal emperor. Putin is "only" 72 and likely in much better health.

A loud 80-year-old man who wants things to go his way or the highway, a great admirer and promoter of himself, who deeply mistaken his self-delusion as confidence. In a nation that's in wreck and filled with leaders whose actions are never in line with their speech, a crook like Trump who is raw and vulgar becomes a fresh air, a symbol of "honesty" (honesty my ass).

Democrats got their turn, yet they messed it up. Spineless, Biden would not do anything different with Palestine, totally bending his knee to the AIPAC lobby. The only difference is Trump being completely blunt and obnoxious about it, while Biden pleases you with his words but screws you with his policies and actions. Hence, now you have this buffoon as a leader, and we, the non-Murican barbarian are preparing for a post-American domination world. For the best or the worse.

I'm not American either, but being a native of a country which has spent decades failing to come to grips with being a post-imperial power (the UK), I can assure you that there's likely much worse in store for the American psyche, even if the Orange-in-Chief is swiftly despatched from the White House.

The US is now run by cranks – because the current wave of right wing ideology is a bunch of conspiracy theories peddled by cranks. The result is a politics of absolute un-reality (the accompanying greed and venality is about the only actually real thing about it) – where subscribing to, swallowing and parroting, and bunch of lies and unrealities is a test of loyalty. And that loyalty is then all that matters. At least until reality itself turns around a bites them.

Doesn't that apply to all American politics in a nutshell? The test of loyalty and such? I don't even think conspiracy matters at this point. Trump, Elon, and Bibi Walk proudly against the whole world, banging their heads and vomiting at the negotiation table, alienating America from its former allies and taking the "brave" risk on turning it into a pariah state. Yet, none of their voters seem to mind about it; or question that perhaps they are being use instead they are waving their money at them, shouting "shut up and take our money!"

I think they are tired of politicians' bullcrapping and now they want the real crap from Mr. CEO. Boy, don't they have tons of stinky crap falling right on their heads. The popularity of Trump happened with the same logic that a criminal, rapist, sex offender, human trafficker like Tate gain their popularity. They are tired of getting empty promise and flowerily talk by little red imp that never deliver, now they want the devil themselves to lead the way.

whatever you have given you will take

and why should all those redneck MAGA cranks ever be afraid of anything ? Spineless Democrats destroyed Rashist Ruzzia of Tolkienesque creatures with an accounting error in the Pentagon budget . Everyone should bend the knee or Trump will do even worse . Does anyone need the digging up of old posts to see how powerful America is with St. Javelin ? Yes , ı don't expect regrets and whatnot . What will ı do with regrets ?

I think that complaining is counter-productive. But I would be interested to hear if other European countries have the will to go against the wishes of the Trump administration, even if that requires more effort (read: money and investment) on our part? With Trump, it's difficult to separate malice from incompetence, but I think that it would be prudent to prepare for both

Is it? The fundamental reality is that the United States can, in fact, live without Europe. This has always been the case, even if Trump laid it out so bluntly. If we have learned anything from this, in my opinion, it should be that Europe has in fact relied on the US too much

We should build a wall in the Atlantic - the bastrds are running instead of fighting for their country ;)

Let me quote a former Belgian PM « Quand tous les dégoûtés seront partis, il ne restera plus que les dégoûtants »
The wealthy enough to globetrot quitter wing of the party out of power?

Good luck with those!

Trump ends deportation protection for 500,000 Haitians

The US government will end the temporary protected status (TPS) for 500,000 Haitians living in the country in August, the Department of Homeland Security said on Thursday.

This comes despite deteriorating conditions in the Caribbean country, with gangs controlling about 85% of the capital and sexual violence against children increasing by 1,000% last year, according to the United Nations.

TPS is granted to nationals of designated countries facing unsafe conditions, such as armed conflict or environmental disasters.

US President Donald Trump has moved to overhaul parts of the US immigration system since returning to office and promised "mass deportations" and arrests.

TPS has been held by Haitians since 2010 and will be ending on 3 August 2025.

This means they will lose their work permits and could be eligible for deportation.

On 1 February, the Trump administration announced the status would also end for Venezuelans living in the US, but this is currently facing a legal challenge from the National TPS Alliance.

"For decades the TPS system has been exploited and abused," the Department for Homeland Security said in a statement on Thursday.

The system has allowed Haitians who "entered the US illegally, to qualify for legal protected status," it added.

But the announcement has also been met with criticism.

More than 5,600 people in Haiti were killed in gang violence last year and the UN has said families are "struggling to survive in makeshift shelters while facing mounting health and protection risks".

Democratic congresswoman Ayanna Pressley called the decision "shameful" amid the "unspeakable violence" in Haiti.

Haitians who have lived in the US for 15 years are at risk of deportation for "no reason other than being Haitian", she added.

During his presidential campaign, Trump made a baseless claim that illegal immigrants from Haiti had been eating domestic pets in a small Ohio city.

City officials told BBC Verify there had been "no credible reports" this actually happened.

Then US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby called the claim a "conspiracy theory... based on an element of racism".

Yes, it is. It's not going to work out.
It's not going to work out for who? For Europe? Maybe, maybe not. Propably not. Americans have that luxury, they don't need to care if Europe lives or dies. I don't wish to bore you with this, but we've been having the NATO debate for at least 30 years now, and even though it's settled now, the fundamental reality remains the same, no matter who Americans elect. US can live without Europe, and always could. It's madness to rely on others. And I understand the irony when Finland is relying on Europe

It's madness to rely on others.

What does this imply? Everyone should have their own nuclear weapons?
It seems closer to madness not to ally with other states against larger and more powerful opponents.

I guess you spelled out the obvious. In any case, what did you mean by allying with other states? Ally with who? US? France? The fundamental reality remains the same. Ukraine gave up their nuclear weapons in exchange for security guarantees from US, UK and Russia

Who wants to bet that they'll be doing more than just salutes before Trump is out of office?

The French far-right leader Jordan Bardella on Friday morning cancelled a scheduled speech at the US Conservative Political Action Conference in National Harbor, Maryland, after Donald Trump’s former aide Steve Bannon flashed an apparent fascist-style salute there hours before.

Bannon, who helped Trump win office in 2016 and is now a popular rightwing show host, finished his CPAC speech on Thursday with an outstretched arm, fingers pointed and palm down – a sign that echoed both the Nazi salute and a controversial gesture made by the tech billionaire Elon Musk at the US president’s second inauguration in January.

Bardella, of the hard-right National Rally party in France, pulled out of CPAC citing Bannon’s allusion to “Nazi ideology”.

The salute during Bannon’s speech brought cheers from the audience at the US gathering.

Bardella, who was in Washington ahead of his appearance and had said he intended to talk about relations between the US and France, issued a statement saying: “Yesterday, while I was not present in the room, one of the speakers out of provocation allowed himself a gesture alluding to Nazi ideology. I therefore took the immediate decision to cancel my speech that had been scheduled this afternoon.”

The National Party was bested in France’s snap election last summer by a leftwing alliance.

Bannon on Thursday night fired up the CPAC crowd, where he spoke directly after Musk, the man who has eclipsed him in Trump’s circle and with whom Bannon is not on good terms.

“The only way that they win is if we retreat, and we are not going to retreat, we’re not going to surrender, we are not going to quit, we’re going to fight, fight, fight,” Bannon said of opponents, echoing Trump’s exhortation to supporters following the assassination attempt on him.

Bannon then flung out his right arm at an angle with his palm pointing down. The Nazi salute is perhaps more familiar, especially from historical footage of the German leader Adolf Hitler, with the arm pointing straight forward – but the fascist overtone of Bannon and Musk’s signals has been unmistakable.

The Anti-Defamation League, which campaigns against antisemitism, defines the Nazi salute as “raising an outstretched right arm with the palm down”.

Bannon’s gesture, like Musk’s have been characterized by some as a “Roman salute” – though some historians argue that is a distinction without a difference. Some rightwing supporters have argued, without evidence, that the Roman salute originated in ancient Rome. Historians have found, instead, that it was adopted by the Italian fascist leader Benito Mussolini in the 1920s, and then Hitler’s Nazi party in Germany.

The speech showcased CPAC’s evolution from a traditional conservative conference to an all-out Trump-centric rally. Bannon also spoke about the forthcoming election in 2028, prompting cheers of “we want Trump,” and saying himself: “We want Trump in 28.”

The statement echoed those of Trump himself, who on Wednesday asked a crowd if he should run again, was met with calls of “four more years”, and called himself a “KING” in a post on social media. US presidents are limited to two terms.

Meanwhile Musk on Thursday brandished a chainsaw at CPAC, gloating over the slashing of federal jobs he is overseeing across multiple departments, in the face of legal challenges and protests. He called it “the chainsaw for bureaucracy”.

It was handed to him on stage by Argentina’s rightwing president, Javier Milei.

Everyone should have their own nuclear weapons?
The Gaddafi-esque deals had a good run. 60 years of American foreign policy as primary goal #1.

When'd we kill him? How long did the European deals take to fall apart after that in earnest? Just about long enough to prepare to do it. Eh?

Americans have that luxury, they don't need to care if Europe lives or dies

what did you mean by allying with other states? Ally with who?

You're going from exactly know the talking point to having a sudden amnesia, "Ally? ally who? you? me? papa?"
