Twin Peaks return - expectations?

Yeah, four. I don't know what to tell you, you're probably not going to have a good time then unless you like the TPverse. It's chock full of Lynchian themes, visual mangling, references, dense internal symbolism and absurdity.

I find it striking that peole mention either the Kafka picture or the mushroom cloud. When I saw that scene I found it a brilliant ensemble of pictures opposed to each other in one office room.

Bureaucracy or annihilation.

^That makes sense, yes :)
Still, i took offense at Kafka being in a tv show :/ ;)

Re the show itself, i now watched ep4 too. Got to say, Lynch didn't deliver, imo. This is way less good than his last lengthy work (Inland Empire). Infact i am seeing it mostly as a series of fan-service to the old TP series, fused with an attempt to turn the lore of TP season1&2 into something more bloated.
I also dislike the pure cringe moments, eg the monologue by the son of Lucy-Andy, the barrage of super-hot women who apparently are there to be super-hot as in all Lynch films, the rather poor out-of-the-black-lodge-and-into-stuff sequences that could belong in an indie horror game, the nods at old characters, that someone who killed another person during a drug deal is now a police officer (lol :D ), the use of lost actors (eg isn't that the Scream actor?), and various other things. I think this series will leave a bad taste overall... That Lynch chewing gum you like? It is way out of style by now :jesus:

Some things, like the 80s and early 90s never go out of style. :p The Wally Brando monologue was hilarious to me. The only complaint I have is that they aren't using the classic show music as much.

Are you guys ready for the necro? I finally watched every single episode and I have to say it completely blew my mind. I wasnt expecting anything as good as the original 2 seasons, but this is the real deal. Personally, I think S3E8 might be better than any other TP episode that came before it. The ending of the series was cruel and bone chilling. I had to reflect on it for days on, I could not stop thinking about it. I think at this point more or less I have it all down in my head, so maybe I can finally put it to rest. This series brought me to tears and made me scream, its an emotional and philosophical rollercoaster with a never-before-seen depth for any television series, really. I thoroughly enjoyed every second of the wild ride and I will probably do it again, at some point.

@Kyriakos: I think you just have to get past the first half. I definitely understand why you didnt like it, even though I loved it. A lot of things seemed unnecessary, senseless, drawn out.. And mostly they are, though sometimes not. However with S3E8 the pace changes completely, the focus flips over to the old characters and the visual imagery combined with "Threnody for the victims of Hiroshima" (one of my favorite compositions.. ever) makes this one of the most spectacular events in television in this century.

So, can we talk about the ending now?

Spoiler :
This is just a smorgasbord of other peoples interpretations, I did not come up with most of this myself. So, what happens in the last 2 episodes: The ancient evil Judy has come to infest the white lodge/red room after Cooper finally returned to his own self. Evil Coop comes to TP and seeks the place with the most negative energy: Sarah Palmers house. Just like the other black lodge spirits he feasts on garmonbozia: Shame, Fear, Frustration, Horror. However he is tricked and teleported right to the sheriffs office, the most positive place in TP. There the plan that has been conspired by Cole, Major Briggs and the other involved parties unfolds: Evil Coop is shot, by using the ring he is banished to the red room and BOB is defeated by that cockney kid. So far. Then, Cooper once again enters the red room. He merges with his "evil" self, his evil self going up in flames. The good Coop cannot fulfill the task he is up to. With the help of Phillip Jeffries (who is not a teapot) he is sent into a different timeline, the day that Laura was about to die. He "tries" to save her, but in the last moment Laura is snitched away by the White Lodge residents. Coop looks up, he knows exactly where he has to go. The Fireman told him about all of this: 430, Richard and Linda, two birds with one stone. So Coop and his lovely secretary get in the car and jump into an alternate timeline. Imo this new timeline is entirely a dream/fantasy/construct of Laura, created by the white lodge residents, but has recently come in contact Judy. The Diner is named Judys, and while it seems Laura had a rather boring life we see she shot her husband (?), so a lot of negative things have been happening recently. "Laura is the one", she is the biggest source of energy on this world. That is why BOB wanted to be her, and not to kill her. In S1 BOB makes it very clear he never intended for Laura to be killed. She is more useful as a constant source of garmonbozia. Being "corrupted" by her father molesting her for years on and her mothers gaslighting. Coop and Diane have disgusting, non-passionate sex. Clearly Coop knows that he is reawakening the traume Diana has due to being raped by evil Coop. Diane willingly sacrifices herself to create negative energy in order to get Judys attention. That is why, imho, Coop is always in a bad mood in the last episode. He knows he has to do horrible things in order to save his world from being destroyed by Judy. So Coop meets "Carrie" and asks her to drive to TP, she agrees. They arrive at Sarah Palmers house and one of the black lodge spirits opens the house (the name was in S1 and FWWM, it is the same person that gave Laura the picture/portal..). As soon as the door closes and Coop asks what year it is the trap goes off. Laura, reminded by the question that she is in a dream remembers the rapes and the abuse she suffered and screams out in utmost, primal horror. All energy is released at once, the house with Judy (?) inside blows the fudge up and remains dark.

The general idea was to trap Judy in an alternate timeline, so that her destruction would not cause the destruction of the world as we know it. Coop sacrificed himself and Laura willingly, a very non-Coop move. There is an argument to be made that Laura is now alive in the other, "real" timeline, since Cooper stopped her from dieing.

The most beautiful thing about this: At the end of S2, Laura whispered the following words in Coops ear (my interpretation): "In 25 years you will kill me and save us all.

I AM the FBI
