Ugliest city in the world?

^ There used to be a company that would take people in, but they closed down because as soon as people went it, they wanted to leave right away, it was so spooky.

I'd like to nomanate Dundee its getting better but its still a pretty ugly place.

Sudbury, Ontario. Pontypridd in Wales is also an extremely depressing place (although it must have been ten times as bad when my great-grandfather lived there). I hear Istanbul is filled with ugly sandstone buildings that have all been standing uncompleted for thirty years because their builders ran out of funds.

Newark, New Jersey. And the surrounding cities - Elizabeth and Union City. Industrial wastelands, all of them.

Or atleast a city you didn't enjoy visiting, and why?

In terms of physical appearance, i thought Rotterdam was pretty vulgar, and Bratislava appeared to be like a decaying wreck too. That said, the people in both cities were friendly enough.

The worst city I've ever visited has to be Kansas City, Missouri, USA. Most of the city, believe it or not, is actually abandoned. I remember walking to work and back and seeing most buildings completely abandoned. I can't even say it's a real city because of this, as it is largely unoccupied. What few buildings do exist are old and falling apart, and the whole city has the look of decay.

In close second is Newark, New Jersey, USA. Like KC, it is largely in ruins thanks to the riots in the late 1960's that left much of it pillaged. However, the city has been undergoing a reconstruction of late and does have some thriving neighborhoods with fantastic night spots that aren't even necessarily dangerous and crime ridden.

Ironically, I've been to Bratislava and didn't find it as bad. If you go to the old center of the city, by the Danube, it's actually quite pleasant.

I hate the area around Copenhagen. It's all the same boring red small houses and trees. Not real nature, not real city. Then I'd rather have old commie ruins. They look cool :D

Here's a pic so you know what I mean:

Buddy, you really have no idea what bad is.

Prague, of course ;)

We should build a dam near Decin (few kilometres southeast from Dresden) and make a "Czech sea". Prague would be a nice underwater theme park :mischief:

Come on, it's not that bad! I've been to Prague, and while it was very medieval and overpopulated with tourists, it was still a lot of fun.

Most British cities (at least all that I know) have a romantic feature of some kind that lifts them out of being classed ugly. Even Birmingham (previously an industrial powerhouse) can conjure uplifting scenes when you know your way around.
Yes maybe, but that probably applies to alot of other cities as well around the world. Lets face it, nasty council estates and abandonded warehouses covered in graffiti aren't pretty, and rather alot of British inner cities look like that :(

But that's really the worst we have here.

In other countries, my choice would be Pilsen, Plzn or what ever it's called, in Czech Republic. I went there because they make good beer. Man was I disapointed. And it rained there too...

If you walked to work, then you didn't get to see very much of the city. I live in St. Louis, but I've been to Kansas City quite often. The only abandoned parts I've ever seen were the ones marked as a historical site (abunch of old warehouses by the looks of them to.)

Dallas, Texas.

And really any other major industrial city.

I didnt mind Dallas so much. I hate Atlanta, Morgantown (WV), Houston and Cincinnati. I have yet to leave the country and hate the city ive visited.

That's bad? I know a whole lot of people (several million actually) who would kill for a chance to live like THAT!

I am actually enjoying this thread more the most beautiful cities thread. Is there something wrong with me?

Hamilton Ontario, its absolutely disgusting there, even Sarnia smelled better. The air is so thick with pollution (much like Toronto) I could barely stay around. Smokestacks everywhere, its a terrible place.

Worst of all though was anything in Shanxi in China
