Some of you may recall that I'm about to undergo a duodenal switch.

It's scary but kind of exhilarating at the same time. Of course the week I spend in a hospital bed probably won't be that exciting, but you understand what I'm driving at.

When I spoke to the recovery specialist she showed me a belt I'll be wearing. That's a freaky thought right there  Wearing a girdle to help hold a massive torso wound shut :crazyeye:

Anyhow, it should be a fascinating transformation. I've been obese since I was like 8, so being a normal weight will be an entirely new thing for me.

EDIT: I know this is a crap thread. I was just too excited not to post it.

Best of luck, speedy recovery and hope everything goes smoothly.
Can we ask for some kind of CFC food video diary ala WCRAgent style ?

Many of my in-laws' family have had gastric bypass surgeries, and some have done really well afterwards.

It sounds like you have the right attitude

Best wishes!

Wow! That's a major intervention. You must be quite desperate to think it's worthwhile.

I can only wish you all the very best.

Good luck! I've seen it go two ways. First was an alcoholic who lost so much weight so fast he couldn't handle his booze. It didn't end well. Second is a freind of mine who I worked with. She had a weight problem she couldn't beat and went with the surgery. Lost a lot of weight and now looks great. Plus, she got a promotion.

I watched some of that series My 600 Pound Life when I was back in the US. It seemed like a massive ordeal, going through all the skin reduction surgeries but those people may be a lot heavier than you are.

I'm not sure.

I spoke with the exercise specialist and she said my build didn't look like the kind of build where massive skin reduction would be necessary, but you never can tell. It all depends on how elastic your skin is and how your fat is deposited.

Once I've fully recovered I'm going to forcibly change my ways. I've been enough of a video gaming loser these last 10 years. Maybe it's time to spend the next 10 years trying something different.

Being something of a vidya gamer is fine, but maybe take up hiking/photography? Golf/trap shooting once you heal? Dunno, there's tons of great sports and activities "white people like" that are low impact enough not to be insane like marathon running but keep you moving and give you a sort of "score" that is skill-based and keeps you coming back. Plus side is once you are doing more than gaming and feel better your mind will feel clearer and faster. You might even game better than before.

Best of luck!

You have no idea man.

Being this fat is like being poisoned. Sore joints, headaches, lethargy, early death.

Obesity is actually a horrifying medical condition. We're only accustomed to it because we see it so often.

Good luck with your surgery, mate.

I'm curious as to what other preparations you've had or have to do for such a surgery other than fasting and typical physical examinations. Torso's the only major region of my body I haven't had a surgery for (and I'd like to keep it that way for a while).

Mainly just dieting.

Oh, and I have to scrub with some kind of super strong soap for a few days prior to the surgery.

EDIT: To clarify, it's not that I'm filthy or anything :P It's just that it's going to be a *big* wound.

While I do wish you good luck, please allow me to say that this is not the right way to do things.

I myself don't really respect people who rely only on "shortcuts" (pun intended). One surgery won't make your life better, you have to change for that.

So be prepared and do your best in the future.

Ya, well, no offense but I'll handle it the way I choose. I'd rather weigh 180 lbs than have your respect.

Still, I don't have a problem with you expressing your opinion :)
