I can’t seem to bring myself to play as evil civilizations. I realize it is just a game and that I’m not actually evil, but I’m certainly not good at it. I see the events that lead to either a good or bad outcome and, almost by instinct, I chose the good option, no matter the situation. The one successful game I had as an evil civ was with the Calabim, and I ended up getting RoK, which made me neutral, and then later Empyrean, which made me good (I liked the idea of sun-worshipping vampires, though. I liked it even more when I had Chalid turned into a vampire. I came up with a whole back story for him and Losha (who did the turning)). I have found that this weird, subconscious aversion to evil has prevented me from playing a successful game as the Sheaim, the Clan, and additional games as the Calabim. I am at my wits end. I want to rule the world with an Iron Fist, but I end up wimping out :sad:. Any suggestions?
 
Consider this...the good guys aren't really that good in FfH. The Bannor are religious zealots, the Khazad are greedy little dwarves, and the Elohim are tolerant of all sorts of evil conduct. Every civ plays to win, and unless you are going for an Altar victory, the victory conditions are the same. Give them all a spin and see which ones you like the best. If playing the "good" guys is more pleasing to your inner roleplayer, then stick with what is fun.

I recommend trying a high/low challenge. You never know what civ you will end up with when the dust settles.
 
as mexis said, ALL the civs in FFH2 are NOT good=saintly, they all have their "darksides" or "issues"

there's not any real GOOD civ in ffh2....maybe u should find another game if u want to rp that much, because all of FFH2 civs a major "sinners" even or especially the "good" civs.

remember that, FFH2 is a ***DARK*** fantasy game :D

or keep playing this awesome game/mod, FFH2, because it is awesome and ignore your RP extremes :P

also as u said, in FFH2, it's perfectly alright and very possible to take an "evil" civ, change it into a "good" civ (by religion) and play it as a "good" civ. that's the whole point of kael n team for this mod. replayability. doing exactly that. playing an "evil" civ as a "good" civ or playing it "normally" an "evil" civ as an "evil" civ. these diferent civs and religions and the comboes in using them together is one of the main things that gives FFH2 its replayability and awesomeness :D

personally for me, i have the opposite problem, i play every civ "Evil 'ly" :D
 
No doubt you were overly socialized as a child. Probably by heavily guilt-tripping parents. Thus, your inner Jewish-mom voice chides you whenever you go to rape and pillage and kill innocent settlers ("Can't you find a NICE girl? That cottage was lovely! You need more friends..."), that sort of thing.

First, you need to play with a heavy, pulsing, driving insane beat music blasting loudly in the background. Anything by Gwar, Sepultura, Manowar or Julie Andrews should do.

Second, you need to get your head into some good, logically founded evilization. So it doesn't trouble you to raze that city and bump the AC up, with silly thoughts like "but I could -use- that city". If that city was really useful, they would have defended it better!

Check things like Gordon Gekko's "Greed, greed is GOOD" speech in Wall Street, read "Justine" by de Sade, any good "survival of the fittest" type propaganda, or just watch broadcasts of most government debates/bill passing sessions.

Lastly, for inspiration, play the Balseraph's, specifically Perpentach. You're not REALLY evil, you're just whimsical! You're not bringing on Armaggedon, you're shaking things up a bit to see what happens. Change is fun! When your traits change, find a way to put them to use, or inspire a style change.

Got raider? Hey, spread Carnival to a few neighbouring cities! Got financial, hey, call it all off, sorry sorry, terrible mistake really, lets be friends and trade. Got aggressive? Build swarms of freaks (expensive but fun) and go rampaging. Got spiritual? Change religions and civics, JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN!! Build OO Asylums and launch Lunatics into the world, cause you can never be *too* crazy!

Hell, you can even be good every now and then and plant some forests or something, suck up some of Hyborem's CO2 emissions.

So there you have it, the Good Ol' Life-Lovin' Yeoman's Guide to Everlasting Evil!

Bust out of that narrow rut you're in, try it today! :satan:

Gameplay-wise, but not really lore-wise. Lorewise, tolerating evil is a more of a Cardith or Cassiel thing. And there's that Blank Banner thing...

But yeah, FfH definitely has a Grey and Black Morality flavour.
 
You get used to it at some point. Being Order Sheaim helps. Every point on the AC helps you spawn more little buddies out of your planar gates PLUS you don't have to deal with scary looking hell terrain but everyone else does.
 
But are you really 'evil' if you're Order Sheaim? The game will clearly show 'Good', no matter how many cities you raze. :p

Order Sheaim, who still work to increase the Armageddon count, sound like Armageddonite Christian sects, who welcome Armageddon with open arms. I tend to view AV Bannor the same way, only with a different approach.
 
I think the Sheaim are the only really evil civ in the game -- though you cannot blame Lillith because the gods were really cruel to her.

The orcs and the doviello are like forces of nature. They are what they are.

Actually, the Luchirp do pretty well in Ashen Veil because so few of their units are alive that they don't get much harmed by many of the curses of a high AC.
 
Oh, I'm like that in most games that have a bad good vs. evil dichotomy. :sad:
The most recent example is in Fallout 3, where I sometimes feel bad for stealing Teddy Bears. I tell myself that it's for the greater good of the Teddy Bear Liberation Army, to give them a better home with more Teddy Bear friends, but it doesn't help much.

Someone just lost their Teddy Bear. And if I were little kid, I could probably use a Teddy Bear in the Wasteland. :(
I can rationalize genocide, I don't mind struggling for the greater good, but I can't steal a Teddy Bear without almost crying a little on the inside afterwards.
 
I also had trouble playing evil Civ's! I loved playing the Bannor especially. However, now I just always play on random. I was 'fixed' once I played all of the good Civ's about twice, I just got ready to move on.

Here's all the motivation you need: Ashen Veil can bring your city pop at the highest level than any other religion (Sacrifice the Weak). Of course, you might have to research future tech #15 to make up for all the bonus losses, but once you're through that hurdle, you're pimpin' with your 70 point cities in the middle of a hellish landscape.

How can Fellowship or Order match that? Just place a workshop where you'd normally want a lumbermill and mine all your hills so you don't suffer hammer bleed when the hell terrain starts creeping in.
 
I don't play evil either, for the same reasons. Although it doesn't help that there's only one evil civ that I find remotely interesting (the Balseraphs).

As far as ruling the world goes... remember, good doesn't necessarily mean peaceful. Go forth and "forcibly enlighten" the heathen hordes; it's for their own good, after all, and they'll be much happier in the long run.
 
I'm the Diet Coke of Evil too - I'm only semi-evil at best. That's why I rarely play the more evil civs; it's just not particularly fun for me. That's not how I generally play.

I understand the lore for many civs - including the Elohim - makes them not all that stereotypically "good" but I don't accept that there's not all that much difference between say the Elohim, dwarves, and forest elves when compared to civs/troops like pyre zombies, infernals, orcs and vampires.

It's ironic that Fall From Heaven's diversity is minimized by saying that good/evil are virtuallly meaningless in Erebus, and all that matters is what advantage playing a certain civ allows. The civs are locked in a desperate struggle for survival so even a good civ's going to be doing its share of killing - if it intends to make it to the next round. Still, to paraphrase Xander Harris - I'm gonna take a stand and say vampires are not good. Pyre Zombies are not good. Infernals are not good.
 
Yeah, good and evil in FfH might not be like... Dudley Do-Right and Snidely Whiplash, but it's still pretty clear for the most part.

Most Evil leaders leave little doubt they live up to their titles. Most Good leaders (or at least Good nations) have quite a bit of moral ambiguity.
 
The Clan and Doviello aren't really evil, just less civilised than most of the rest of Erebus (Barbarians excluded). They don't live the way they do out of spite -- it's just the only way they know. They're warlike, sure, but so are the Bannor.

I'm not convinced Perp is definitively evil, either. He just doesn't fully understand the consequences of what he's doing. On Earth, he'd probably be institutionalised.
 
I'm not convinced that Keelyn is that evil. I know her deeds and all... I just think she's mostly like her father. She wants to do fun things.

Also, I'm not convinced about the evilness of the Svartalfar. I mean, Faeryl seems quite paranoid and prone to murder and all... However, I don't figure the people she rules as evil guys (well, that's the case for most of the civs, in fact). So, I don't think every Svart leader is evil.

Also also, I've this problem. I'm too good, always thinking evil guys can be redeemed... :p
