Yeah... I mean, it looks good, but I'm just not getting that 'Egyptian' vibe from it.. Looks more like a regular pikeman. Some color change to more desert colors might do the trick.

Also, you might want to do something about the armor around his hips... it looks like having all those kids went right to his thighs... reminds me of the middle-age women I used to see at the public pool.

What should I change?
I mean, they're not going to make thier armor out of sand . I suppose I could make the metal look a bit more sandy but you're not going to be able to see that at civscale.
maybe add something?

You never know... if Palestinians can use dirt clods against tanks, the Egyptians can use armor made of sand.

Anyway, I don't think he needs anything else. He's bulky enough as it is (see above joke in previous post). I really don't know how you could work it. Maybe if the metal were lighter, shinier? I like shiny things...

I'll still leave my request posted though, as he'd be great even without the shield!

This is a good idea for a thread, though. I really like the animation on your African Pikeman so it would be very funky to produce a pile of units to the same specs.

Heres a larger image, but I actually like the style of the previous one more...make sure you have the large feather and beard and colorful garments under the armour.

Ah, you are very wise, Dease... I did not think of gold. Unfortunately, gold armor is rather weak... so perhaps you should give only some gold to the less "vital" areas.

Switch it up a little. And making the remaining iron armor less dark will help too.

That works too... That's gets pretty beaten pretty fast, however. There will have to be a painter along with the army.

ok, I've been messing around with this model for too long now, I jsut can't seem to get the colours to look good!
Here's my "best" attempt so far, suggestions? (his hand position will be fixed )

He looks like the Miami Sound Machine exploded all over him... He looks like a Carnaval nightmare....

Why this fellow is colorful enough to defend the Pope!

The only suggestion I can give is that his pike stick thing looks out of proportion. Try making it thinner.

I like that unit. It looks great! The colors are perfect! I found a free spear prop that would look better with him btw, on a site called Greylite.

Seriously though, it'd look good like this. The only think I might do to make it look less busy is change that orange to either gold or the armor gray.

how many verticies? if it's more than 1500 then just post a pic I may decide to model it

I'm not sure, but its a thinner spear than the one your correctly useing, you could probably switch the two easy enough.

I going to keep the pike the way it is this is the widht I used for my previous unit pikeman and it worked good, any smaller and there would be mysterious gaps at civscale

Yeah, an Egyptian-style halberd might look really cool. That'd definitely have the effect you want.

I think the thickness for this one would be fine. You can leave it this way and it'll be fine.
