Unit Request: Macedonian Phalanx

UPDATE:

I decided to update the unit with a smaller shield and different shield design. There's also a second "attack" animation (possibly the "defend" animation that was talked about on these forums a few months back), where he goes down on one knee and keeps his sarissa firmly on the ground. It's the last animation in the sequence below - coming after the "walk" animation for Steph's SSS.

It's mostly rendered now, and I honestly don't have time to redo it again ;) . However, the good news is that I'm going to try to concentrate on getting a few new basic Greek units out by early-mid May (though I'm not taking requests ;) ).

Lovely, it looks very much like the image that I had in my mind for this unit. I love it. :goodjob: The crouching animation should be useful too - it might be useful as a fortify anim.

Not taking requests??!?!! ;) I look forward to whatever you come up with though.

One question that I forgot to ask so far - what is the civ colour on the unit?

Blue is the civ colour; the actual Macedonian civilization will be a light purple; therefore this guy should be about as authentic a Macedonian as you can get with the paperdoll male!

Just a thought - what about using the crouching animation as a "fidget?"

I thought that it must be the blue. The Macedonians are purple in my scenario too by the way. :) On the fidget - I guess that it is possible, but I'll do some tests when I get my grubby little hands on it. There are going to be quite a few of these chaps in my scenario, so I'm a little worried about them all crouching down in time with each other. Still, I'll definitely find a use for it.

It's a nice thought Partizanac. I don't tend to do fidgets when I do units. When I put the unit together, I'll put the crouching as "defend" - whilst it won't really be seen that often in-game, at least it separates it out for those who have a different use for it ;) .

I've had a crack at this:

There is, however a problem  . The sarissa is so big, this is the only direction it fits properly in!!

As I see it, I have three basic options:
1. Resize the unit - but to fit the sarissa into the all frames in every direction would mean that the guy would have to be about a third of the size. Clearly I can then organise for the frames to be done at three time the size to make the guy the same size as other units, but I feel that the sarissa would be too big.
2. Resize the sarissa - the most obvious answer. However, it would have to be a third of the size to fit it in and that would look poor in some directions. I could do a time-exhausting different size for each direction to make it look okay.
3. Re-do the unit with the normal Kinboat spear, but still have two hands holding it.

Any thoughts?

Sorry I didn't see this sooner. You could use a larger frame. Here is a template for a 240x240 frame in Poser:

It should have the same angle and scales as the 100x100 template. Maybe this will help in the future. Great unit BTW. I can't wait for this mod...

MUnit possibly? :please:

@ R8XFT: Also, this current and coming week are going to be insane. Psych test, sociology test, and we are upgrading a server to a webserver in one of our Net Admin class. So I will more than likely not be able to get the currently collected images to you. I will work on them some during the week and more during the weekend, but things are going to be pretty hectic.

No worries, Tank_Guy#3, I sure know what a busy RL schedule looks like ;) . Incidently, I don't do munits myself (I don't actually like them), but once released, those people that do are welcome to use the graphics to make this a munit if they wish :) .

Speaking of release dates, is this unit only going to be available as part of Anno Domini, or will it be released in advance? :mischief: And if you want any 'feedback in advance' on any other Greek/Macedonian units then I will be happy to bore you with trivial details as and when necessary.

Okay...don't bore me :mischief: ; though I've released this unit early for you ;) . The thread is here.
