(1) The Greek Slinger:
Armed with only a slingshot, the Slinger dates back to the beginnings of Greek civilization, when shepherds used slings to keep their herds safe from predators and thiefs. Naturaly, slings were widely used in most wars of Ancient Times, up until the Persian wars. A cheap, but effective way of taking out an enemy warrior...

(2) The Spartan Helot:
Helots (or "Helotoi") were light infantry units that usually accompanied the cavalry. Armed with javelins, they were used for skirmishing assaults...

Did really roman slingers exist ? I always thought the Romans use foreign soldiers for slingers ... just a question ...

I think Dom Pedro is making a Balearic Slinger (which is probably the best slinger ever in existance, and was used mainly by Carthage, but sometimes Rome as well). Kryten might still be making Armed Helots, but that's probably wishful thinking.

The RoR slinger gave me the idea for the Roman guy here. However, I am looking for something in the quality of Dom Pedro's Maccabee, preferably with a look very close to my sketch. (I am picky, I know!)
Both the Greek and the Roman slinger could be modeled on the Maccabee as far as movements etc are concerned. Dom Pedro, wanna give it a shot? (No pun intended! )

WoodenTaco.. yeah, that's what I'm talking about! I think, we "need" the Assyrian and the Balearic guys as well. Including the Maccabee, that would give us 5 (FIVE!) slingers... ohh yeah, baby! :)

@Dom - Maybe you could do both?

Yeah, but I would make the Roman more clean-cut (no beard)... at any rate, a very small difference...

Well YOU are the unit artist.... :D

Yeah, but SoG has my address and a sniper rifle... :undecide:

He's already sent me my sister's hand in a box...

No, actually, I can't back any of this up. I don't even have a sister...

:p :p :p

:D :D :D

Best laugh I had tonight!!!

just a note: you can use Helot ofcourse,it is the widely known latinised version of the word Helos (Helotas is another, less austere form of the word). But the plural should definately be Helotai ;)
