Unit Request Thread 3

wyrmshadow had one of these mammoths , doesn't that fit ? Actually two , as ı remember , the second fixing the first . ı remember game testing both .
Sort of. His is a custom model somewhat similar to the Mk.3 seen in C&C3; this is the original from C&C1/Red Alert.

Will this one do?

Also, there are MANY mechas in the d/l db.)

(And I really do miss @Wyrmshadow being around  )

EDIT: I'd forgotten that he made one at 1/2 scale too,

Can anyone identify this unit? I pulled the pedia icon for mod pre-planning but I must never have actually downloaded it because I can't find it in my working files, and I've lost patience combing through the database:

Some far eastern units in the theme of "empires of the east" would be nice. We still have a dearth of far eastern gunpowder cavalry and line infantry/light infantry units from early modern to napoleonic age.

:nope:
  1. Go to the "Members" Tab.
  2. Under the Orange Banner, "Find Members," type in the following names, in no particular order:
    • imperator1963
    • Balam-Agab
    • Sandris
    • register
    • (and there are more.)
On each Member's Page, there are a series of tabs, with "Downloads" at the far right, and scroll away. Mind: many unit creators pack a very large number of units in a single pack. Here, for example, is the list / illustrations of the first of Balam-Agab's packs you'll see listed, "Empires of the East: Qing 1.0" -

Have fun! :D

I've seen them all. That's why I said there's a dearth. There are no gunpowder cav and napoleonic age infantry units among that for the Koreans and Japanese. There is only 2 gunpowder cavalry and 1 line infantry for the Qing from Imperator on top of Balam's eastern sets. Sandris doesn't do eastern units beyond medieval age.

We have epic game mods where every single european faction have their own napoleonic age flavor units (isn't 1 western european version enough?) while far eastern civs use generic units that are just western euro ones.

And using Qing troops for Japanese and Korean units is very inappropriate on units that have detailed hairstyle, head dress or symbolisms. It's far worse than having cuirass wearing heavy cavalry on the British side as a "cuirassier" unit (who didn't wear any in real life).

Balam has already covered early modern Ming, Tongoo and Ayutthaya. Dai Viet during the Trinh-Nguyen infighting period and Edo Japan would be nice. That's why I provided some visual sources that would have been hard to come by years ago.

 Good point. Hopefully
Also (and albeit to my untrained eye) the Firelancer might pass as Korean ...

I've already used these linear tactics age line and light infantry for the Koreans and Japanese. In my mod there are Line Infantry (Musketman upgrade), Light Infantry/Skirmisher (Longbowman and Man at Arms upgrade), Dragoons (medium cav), Light Horse (light cav) and Cuirassier (heavy cav) available at Military Tradition/Science. As you can guess finding cavalry units suitable for the Japanese was very hard, let alone those with gunpowder attacks. Koreans can share units with Chinese and Mongols fine most of the time. But the Japanese have such distinct uniforms/armor that settling for Qing units shouldn't satisfy historically minded modders. But for now that will have to do. Using western units for the Japanese at around Nationalism (post Boshin War) is actually appropriate as advised by French instructors, they were dressed and armed like French and US troops. Ironically, this is where people have made units for them.

The Firelancer is dressed in a non Japanese far eastern manner and would look at home serving the mongols, chinese and koreans. I use it as a Gunpowder tech cruise missile unit for all civs as gunpowder specialists at that period were often hired/coerced from the northern chinese.

Amigo, you are far more knowledgeable in these matters than I :goodjob: so, accordingly, ご多幸を祈る !

Does anyone know who created this unit? Oz originally attributed it to Wyrmshadow, but the one linked from his thread has different dimensions. I ask because there's no corresponding thread here and the missiles flicker in the attack .flc—I don't know if a fix was posted, let alone where to look.
