Unit requests thread

Awesome, thank you. Anyone see a worker out there? I know I saw one somewhere but I can't remember.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I'm in the process of flavoring the Khmer civ, and I made a couple of Industrial units for them (I can't use the Siam Rifleman Bernie made because I will have a Siamese civ in my mod too). So if anyone is interested let me know and I'll post them, along with some Swedish Industrial units. But I'll only do it if people want me to, I'm a bit busy with some stuff right now and its sort of a PITA to upload stuff when the quality isn't that great.

If you have to know they are very loosely based on some images I found on the internet. In fact the Cavalry is based on Kuala Lumpur's Royal Guard, and the Riflemen are just some guys based on a few images of Khmer Royal soldiers I found. So it is not "accurate" by any means.

Could someone make a clonetrooper from star wars?

There is a helmet, but no unit model.

@ mechaerik; so what is the status on those Zulu units?

Almost done. Would it be fine if the Zulu Knight didn't use a spear, but the sword already there? Makes things so much simpler.

For the chariot, i need a little bit of clarification. Do you want the regular impi on it, or the one in the Knight folder? And did you want the grass on that zebra too?

I wasn't able to put the skull on the zebra's heads, because thats actually just texturing, and the heads for the horse and zebra are at different angles. I did put the grass on them though.

I guess, if you don't do it, somebody will miss these units in the future.

I would also take it.

 maybe if somebody could put the helmet on the Area51 infantry and skin it completly white....i guess, this could be enough -> Mechaerik :D?

I certainly would be interested (and do not have any complaints with the quality :) ).

Will you keep changing them as you do not like them enough ?

Do you keep track of the units you created / reskinned (so I can take a look at them once your mod is released - it feels like you do not post all of them here) ?

I plan on posting all of the units I have put together. The only reason I don't do it normally (i.e. without someone asking me to) is because I don't feel I deserve to do it, I didn't make them from scratch. I just take existing models and swap around heads and bodies and then retexture them. So I don't feel comfortable claiming them for my own. That's the issue. The quality is fine, although sometimes I don't attach the heads properly, or the weapons, etc.

I can post them soon. I guess I'll put up the Swedes too. I'm using them as Industrial era Vikings (Cannon, Grenadier, Cavalry, Rifleman).

I also have Mongolians and two British soldiers too. So I can probably put them up relatively soon.

Since I'm wasted I want to point something out that I have wanted to point out for a while but haven't. I made the original model for the Siamese Rifleman, Bernie just made it look better. There I said it....

Although I did use the body of Bernie's Aussie Rifleman and reskinned it... and the head from Bakuel's Khmer Pikeman and reskinned it.... then I put it together... but I made it... alright fine, Bernie and Bakuel really made it, I just put two and two together... and then reskinned it.... :crazyeye:

Isn't that what people do for most units, esp. human ones (i.e. not as frequently for tanks etc.) ?

You can always mention the original creator in the download if you feel it is due :)

If it's not something obvious one can tweak in XML, can someone re-size DDs so that three of them will take up about as much room as, say, a pair of cannon? I want to create a "river flotilla" unit using three DD graphics (unless someone actually creates river flotillas from WWII), and scaling them down would be a reasonable facsimile thereof.

Also: has anyone made PT boats?

I think what you can do is copy the files for the DD and then somewhere there is an xml that governs size. If you just edit that and place the revised unit in game, you may end up with something you are happy with. I think the Civ 4 Mod Wiki might tell you where that is located. I don't remember at the moment...

 what?

DDS are just images, resizing is not a problem with popular free software like Irfanview or i guess Paint.net.

I assume DD stands for destroyer (not dds graphic files). The size of units is controlled by xml in the unit art

Code:
			<fScale>0.44</fScale>
			<fInterfaceScale>1.0</fInterfaceScale>

Do whatever you think looks best, I trust your judgement on this.

I'm not exactly sure how easy this will be, but I can't figure out how to do this or if it is even possible (although I'm sure it is possible). But I'm trying to make an ancient Portuguese unit-set based on Lusitani Celtiberians and I need the side of the shield I "highlited" to be flipped so the shield looks right. Can anyone fix this for me?

I think the texturing file is Shield.tga or something to that effect.

You mean like this?

Only sent back the textures that were being used in nif, so if youll have to re-add them if you needed them for some reason.

Another request. I need the body from the image on the left, combined with the head and hat from the image on the right on the infantry skeleton in order to create the image in the center (which is a WWI-era Portuguese Infantry soldier). If anyone could help me out with this that would be awesome, and this is by no means an ultimatum but the quicker this gets done the quicker I can release a bunch of Ancietn and Industrial flavored Portugese units which I think look really good. So HELP!!!

:goodjob:

EDIT: Or if that coat-tail thing can be put on the Infantry that would work too.
