Unit requests thread

In that case I am going to make both versions then. I am going to put them on that same Model (the Senegalese Tirailleurs [?] guy) and texture them then I'll post both (I'll also try to make the hats and stuff, or at least get close to it so you can edit them as necessary). Mongolian Industrial units are basically non-existant, so I think we'd be doing the community a great service on this. I'll post them up as soon as I finish, I am working on one right now and I might be able to get them both finished sometime tomorrow or the next day, although tonight and tomorrow is the only real free time I'll have for modding for the rest of the week. Sort of.

I think we could probably get away with using the same texture for both units. The other one will be pretty difficult to reconstruct. Basically here is my idea if you can pull this off. I have enclosed two three nif files in the folder. The one that says BodyModel you should actually only use for the Rifleman, so replace the Rifleman model with that one first. Then I think you should remove the collar because it looks stupid and shouldn't be on either model anyway. After that you can either add the extra parts or make them "pop" out, so the blue parts on the shirt (the thing over the chest and the two things hanging down) should seem like a different article of clothing. What I think you may want to do is "mend the seam" on the bottom cuff of the shirt (or whatever you call that) and maybe even shorten it a bit so the blue parts extend farther below the red part. I hope this makes sense, I tried to lineate it a bit in the image. Good luck, and godspeed.

EDIT: The final/latest texture is NewRiflemanProject2.tga

EDIT 2: Maybe you should just use one model, because you'd have to get rid of the backpack on the the regular machinegunner model, so do whatever you think is best.

TheCapo take a look at these bodies for the mongols. Obviously they dont have heads, but other wise there fairly close to what you want. You could even skin them a little different, I would just need to tweak the UV coordinates for the over coat thing because it uses alpha to help get its shape. And since I seperated the textures that the body and overcoat use, you could probably just color the parts under the topcoat as red instead of also having the detail.

Now can you make those fancy helmets?

EDIT: Maybe coloring some shadow on the body that is beneathe the topcoat. Right now with both layers having the same exact pattern, the top layer doesnt stand out as much.

I'm going to take a look at it right now, I was just working on some what if Frankish Industrial units (those I won't post because they are way too obscure and I doubt a lot of people want them, but if anyone does PM me). But I could probably easily do what you want me to, I just want to take a look at the units first. I do have pub trivia tonight though, so my time is limited.

I'll see if I can get back to you before I leave.

EDIT: I just looked at it, and I don't really think there is much of a problem. I could change it back of course but the red clothing underneath is slightly darker anyway so I think it looks okay, but I can do it anyway. As far as the heads go I'm already working on it, I'm not sure how exact they will be but they will generally look like the ones in the images.... this is awesome! I love these units.

If they look ok then dont worry about redoing the under garments. I just wasnt sure if that top layer would stand out enough for your tastes.

Just make sure to keep the alpha and stencil properties that I put on the top coat. Otherwise it will not look good.

EDIT: what about the infantry? That picture you posted wont ever show up.

This is what I came up with for the Cavalry's head/helmet. If you compare it to the images I posted before I think its nearly exact. What do you think?

EDIT: I'll put up an image of the Infantry later. I have to get ready to leave now. But I'm pretty confident we can get these finished pretty soon. I'll have a head for the Rifleman finished soon.

Well here are the two Mongolian Riflemen I put together. There is one I personally like better than the other but I'll see what you guys think and use whichever one (or I could even use both really). Let me know what you think.

I like the first one, that hat is cool, and yet at the same time looks quite warm.

It's raining here, and it's kind of cold.

The first one has a better face and hat

First one definitely. But if you are going by the picture. I would rip off the hat of the 2nd one and put it on the face of the first.

Another thing are you cure you dont want to try to go for the shape of the rifleman in the pics? I guess I could reshape my original or maybe use something different if you have any ideas.

I suppose I could try for the other one, I wanted to get this finished tonight to get the last base Civ flavored for my mod (Mongolia, obviously) but I guess I'll have to wait another day. I'll see what I can do for the texturing.

And as far as the heads go, they are both attached to the caps, in fact they even use the same texture file (Russian_Cossack_128.dds) and my skills are extremely limited. I like the other hat (1) better though anyway, I'd imagine it'd get pretty cold in Mongolia and I think it looks better/more Mongolian. But both are pretty decent if you ask me.

Alright, here you go. I kinda put up another image with some small instructions/ideas, but you can do whatever you think is best, you are clearly better at this stuff than I am. Good luck.

I hope I'm not delaying your other GG project, although knowing how these things work I'm sure I am. :mischief:

Finish both of them! The other one can still be used as a say musketeer graphic in the Industrial era.

Here are the modern era images. They aren't very unique really, but I'm reposting them since you asked. The Infantry picture I have attached since it decides when it wants to show up via url;

These are Paratroopers:

I'd use these guys as Infantry or Machinegunners or AT Infantry or something:

So those are some modern Mongolians. For the later modern units (I usually give the Marine, Paratrooper and SAM Infantry a more modern look with the others getting an earlier look) I'd obviously go with that brownish camoflauge that they are wearing. I'd probably base the early modern units around the attachment photo and the one with the long coats and that woman standing in front of them (in the second spoiler image). It might be a bit difficult to get the heads for a couple of these together though unless anyone had any ideas.

Were doing reverse what-if units now???:p

Cool, thanks
