Hello everyone, and welcome to the third part of this poll devoted for your most wanted civs ! This time, Middle-east is our play field, and many civilizations wait for your approval. We'll go from the Bosphorus, to actual Iran. Please, remember to read the PDF if you're unfamiliar with some of the names inscribed on the list : you may actually be surprised by a civ which you wouldn't know much before !

Please enjoy, and happy Easter !!!

ATTENTION : By IRAN, I mean ISLAMIC PERSIA !!!! It's mentionned in the PDF

How is Iran different from Persia? I thought that Iran is the same country as Persia, but it just changed name to Iran in 1930s when Reza Shah Pahlavi asked foreign countries to use term Iran instead of Persia, because Iranians/Persians have always called their country Iran?

However, here are my votes.
Ottoman Empire: A major threat to Europe, and a strong empire that had lands on three continents. It's a must!
Israel/Hebrews: Their influence on religion is both huge and undeniable. It would make a good never before seen Civ.
Babylon: Badly depicted Sumer isn't enough! Babylon has been a part of Civilisation from the first game, and I'd like to see more ancient Civs.

Honorable mentions: Assyria, Hittites, Phoenicia, Safavid Persia, Sassanid Persia (I know, they were Zoroastrian, not Islamic, but I'd like to see them. Since they aren't among the specific options to vote for, I guess they are included in "Other").

Assyria, Hittites, Yemen. Just out of my personal interest for those three. Concerning Yemen, I'm thinking of the ancient South Arabian Kingdoms - however, I think they would be better of being called Yemen in civ instead of Hadramaut, Himyarites, Saba etc.

I may have voted for "give us a non-achaemenid persia" if it was available, preferably Safavid.

Thanks for noticing it, and I added it to the description : by Iran, I mean Islamic Persia (I actually mentionned it in the PDF)

Honest answer: ALLLLLLL OF THEM. :D

But I voted for Elam, Babylon, and Palmyra, which I think gives a pretty good roster of civs from diverse time periods and regions. Elam would make a great newcomer dark horse civ, Babylon should be a perennial base game civ, and Palmyra should be called Aram or Syria but should be led by Zenobia.

Babylon, Hittites, and Turkey. I'd like Iran to be represented by a Muslim leader of Persia (preferably Reza Shah), and I'm guessing that Carthage doesn't count for the particular Phoenician city-state option.

Babylon, Yemen, and Oman. Although civilizations like the Nabateans or the Hittites could be interesting, these are the ones I personally prefer to see.

I voted for Babylon (has been present in every Civ game, many contributions to ancient science), Turkey (Ottomans) (important empire), and Yemen (possible female leader who's a worthy one, long history dating to the pre-Islamic states like Himyar and Saba).

Honorable mentions: Assyria (I wouldn't mind them returning, but Civ6's Sumeria kinda covers their niche and Macedon has their Civ5 ability basically), Hittites (I would vote for them, but I think the Ottomans take more precedent over them), Israel (I think they are impossible in today's political climate), Palmyra (didn't last long, I find Zenobia fascinating though),

I'm not too fond of the other choices, some are too obscure or their known leaders don't really have "big personalities".

Babylon (extremely necessary, it must to be in every edition of the game)
Ottomans (extremely necessary, also, it must to be in all editions of the game)
Assyria (necessary, but not much as the ones above, but it would be great to have it in all editions)

I voted:
Turkey (specifically Ottomans)
Assyria
Phoenicia (probably won't happen though)
Babylon would be more likely.

They may be the obvious choices, but:-

Ottomans (because, obviously)

Babylon
Assyria

We really need some more Ancient Era civs, and Babylon and Assyria are nice different approaches to that.

I was torn between Assyria (which I'm less interested in because early game steamroll conquest civs are sort of intrinsically overpowered) and Phoenicia, which I think would be a great new ancient trading power. But I want to see Carthage return slightly more than Phoenicia, so the Assyrians it is...

Still, I'd ecstatic to see the Phoenicians make the cut. I'd also love to see an alternative, non-Achaemenid Persian leader (Safavid would be my preference).

Not sure about that but my friend from Iran pre-revolution always refers to himself and his brothers as Persian.

A lot of the diaspora in the West prefers "Persian" to disassociate themselves with the current political regime in Iran, which isn't exactly on friendly terms with...well, anyone really, but especially the West. Especially since a lot of the Persian diaspora left after the revolution for political or religious reasons following the deposition of the Shah.

Well, they left before the revolution as the father got a job as an architect in New Jersey. They just didn't go back after the revolution. Though he kept Iranian citizenship until a couple years ago. Something to do with still owning property in Iran which they eventually liquidated and pulled out completely.

Perhaps it is also because their mother was a Turk with their father being Iranian, they came from the northwest part of the country.

Leader ideas for the Middle East
Sargon of Akkad
Ashurbanipal of Assyria
Hammurabi of Babylon
Peter I of Cyprus
Shutruk-Nakhunte of Elam
Suppiluliumas of the Hittites
Mohammad Reza Pahlavi of Iran
Solomon of Israel
Baldwin IV of the Latin States
Parshatatar of Mitanni
Aretas III of the Nabataeans
Zenobia of Palmyra
Hiram of Phoenicia
Mehmed II of Turkey/Seldjuks/Ottomans
Arwa al Sulhayi of Yemen

I voted for Babylon, the Hittites, and the Ottomans. Here's my reasoning:

Babylon: Has been in every game as of yet, and frankly should remain as such for the series' future. As far as CIV VI's Babylon ought go, I'd like to see it as different from Sumer as possible while maintaining the same overall Mesopotamian scientific theme. Nebuchadnezzar II would be my optimal choice for a leader, but I'd like the uniques to be handled a little less... blandly in this game. An Archer replacement is all well and good, but please don't call it the "Bowman."

Hittites: Many forget or don't know that the Hittites were actually already in a major Civ game. The Hittites were led by Mursalis in CIV III. However, I'd like to see them slightly different in VI. Puduhepa ought lead them, and they should have a scientific-based military focus, with Puduhepa allowing for a shot at religious victory. The Three-Man Chariot, while it should be renamed, would be cool to return. Maybe replaces Heavy Chariot, and can move after attacking.

Ottomans: I don't think I have to explain this one, but here goes. The Ottomans were solidly one of the most important groups in the history of the world. In VI, I think they should be led by Suleiman I or Mehmed II, or maybe even Selim I. Grand Bazaar as unique district, Janissary as unique unit?

My votes were:
1)Ottomans - representation of Middle-East would simply be incomplete without them. They played too important role in the history of the region and the whole world.
2)Babylon - a tradition of the series, I would be upset if it doesn't appear in Civ 6.
3)Isreal - I know it is almost impossible, but still it would be a nice addition to cultural representation of the Middle-Eastern region.

This vote was a no-brainer for me. I voted Akkad, Assyria and Hittites
