Unoffical Offical CFC Minecraft Server -- World 2

I hope 'a little while' isn't too long, since i'm stuck in the nether :(

croxis do you have a general idea for when the server will be up and running?

And the nether as well?

I have a proposed alternative to using Towny as a plugin. This is a civilization fan site. Would it not make sense to model it after our beloved games? Here is the link to my current musings. I would really like feedback on it, however to keep this thread from exploding I ask to keep discussion on this plugin to the comment thread on this blog post.

This requires developing the plugin from scratch. What this means is that it will take time to implement the full feature set. On the other hand it will allow us to develop the plugin to meet our needs.

If I greenlight this the following will happen:
Towny will be not be used
A temporary property plugin will be added so you can protect your buildings
Development on Civilization plugin will begin and will function alongside the temporary property protection. Once the code for protection is in place the temp solution will be deactivated.

I don't like having to pay to build in some places. Also property prices should be low. Everything sounds fun, but I don't want to spend a lot of time saving to buy my own property.

Should we do this, what would happen to the map? Would it still be the same?

also rapture kind of breaks that model, we only own individual rooms and share the rest of the city.

I was thinking though, these mods take up a lot of space and memory, why don't we just add some stuff to keep griefers from destroying everything and run towns and boundaries on our forums with our imaginations?

If it freed up enough space to let extra players and mobs in that would be awesome.

Did people not see me say post on the minecraft server site? If you can't and are registered I need to know so I can fix it, but I am not going to have a conversation on this topic in this thread.

I think this Civ plugin would only work well with more people. You mentioned turns -- with only a maximum of ~6 people on at the time, most of them from only 2 or 3 towns, I think turns would be pretty slow, unless it's automated like 1 hour = 1 turn or something. Other than that, I think it's a pretty good idea, but what will happen with the server in the meantime? I know you said you'll have "property protection" on but will it be just regular SMP + property protection or what? I'd like to try out SMP, but not if it lags with more than 3 people.

I like this suggestion.

You no longer need email to register. I deleted all pending accounts so you can reregister.

I very much doubt the plugins are responsible for that much ram usage, although I am gonna profile the hmod server and find out.

I also have zero interest in running a bare bones minecraft server.

Well of course not vanilla, but just enough mods to still have fun. Townie mod's nice, but not particularly necessary, since we can still band together without it being a mod, and having more people will always be fun.
