Updates to City Names

I have completed the namemaps of the Baltic region - everything between Danzig, Minsk and St Petersburg. I attached the Norse, German, Moscow and Sweden namemaps. I decided it's best if I add the changes to Poland and Lithuania namemaps after the glitches about "Poz" etc are worked out.

I decided to use Old Prussian names (if succeeded by Teutonic castles) on Norse namemap when available as they were important trade centers at the time of the Norse.

I have a few suggestions that I can't implement myself.

1. The spot where Tvanksta (predecessor of Königsberg) spawns turned out to be more appropriate for Memel. So I suggest renaming the indy city "Memelis" (I like this option more) or moving it 1SW.

2. I suggest moving indy Minsk 1E.

3. I suggest moving barb Riga 2E (not sure I remember the current spawn spot correctly).

4. I suggest unifying the provinces of Estonia and Livonia as they were considered as one during the era relevant to this mod. If keeping them separate is important for gameplay purposes, I suggest dividing them by the dashed line.

I support Lady Eleanor's proposal of adding the Northern crusade to the German UHV, as otherwise we would waste this excellent German namemap. ;)

What do you think?

Well there's Eysyssla - Saaremaa, Grobin - Grobina, Palteskja - Polotsk. Riga was known in in the early middle ages in latin as "Duna Urbs", the name of the river being "Dúna" in Norse. The Norse would probably have called Riga Dunagard ("Duna town"). The Curonians were important in Norse history and some cities could be named for the lands - Vredekurland - Talsi, Megov - Klaipeda, Bandav - Kuldiga, Vynda - Ventspils.

The Isle of Man's province is Northumbria. Should this be changed so the province reads as Mann, or is there historical significance between Mann and Northumbria that I'm missing?

Mann was put in Northumbria in order to simplify the provinces in the British Isles. Separating the two would have no impact on gameplay and would add unneeded complexity.

I assume the Yorkshire province was once Northumbria in a prior release? My confusion here comes from the fact that Mann is the only tile in the Northumbrian province right now. It makes sense to lump it with Yorkshire for simplicity's sake, or leave it as its own entity, but rename its province Mann, but leaving it as the only Northumbrian tile is odd. I'm sure it's a quick fix, but I wouldn't even know where to begin with modding myself.

(Interestingly enough, it's also listed as unstable for Enlgand, but Iceland is OK - it seems like these should be reversed, since Mann has been an English dependency since the 1300's, and England's only involvement with Iceland was its occupation during WW2 to to give Allies a lookout point for U-Boats on their way to the US.)

Yorkshire was divided into two provinces (Northumbria and something else). It was causing some trouble for the English as they had to build yet one more city to "conquer" the second province. When I merged the two, I must have missed the island. Since I thought I removed all of Northumbria, I removed it from the list of "OK" and "Stable" altogether.

At any rate, I think I will bring Northumbia back anyway (give it half of Yorkshire and the second half would be something else).

Is the map on post 61 ready to be merged into the game or are there more changes waiting to be added?
The bits posted are ready. I will post the Polish (and consequently Lithuanian) version of the namemap after the reported bugs with Polish namemap are fixed.

Cordoban Namemap in Portugal and Northen Spain (ganked Isabella as soon as she arrived) is somewhat lacking, i've noticed in my current game

I will incorporate the changes. krieger546 is working on the Polish and Lithuanian maps in the Baltic region. We can work on syncing the German and Polish maps afterwards.

Here is a long overdue revamp of the Arabian city map for Egypt. Some resources need to be reorganized, but most importantly, the Arabs should comfortably be able to capture Alexandria, create Cairo and Domyat. These cities should almost always be created.

Looks reasonable. Will add the changes tonight.

ok cool! Also I was thinking you could have coloured provinces, to show core, border and foreign areas (cyan, green, red), like in SoI, that would be very helpful indeed! :D

It is on the "todo" list. There are some fundamental differences between SoI and RFCE, so it would be a bit more work for me to do this.

A working strategy layer would be nice

it's somewhat of a double posting but I had added it to an 'outdated' post in the wrong forum
I had changed some names in Westfalia & Lower Saxony
and I looked at it again making allot more changes to it in this version
it's the german name map from kartoffelvampir which had been edited by merijn v1
there shouldn't be any more 'double city locations' this time

I also added 1 tile. (between Lübeck and Stettin)
it's the tile 1 south of the fish (Stralsund)
1 NE of the tile I named Neubrandenburg(I don't want it to be a coastal town)

if the tile can't stay, Neubrandenburg should be renamed to Stralsund

@Daffy
I have a some question about how you guys work on such maps:

First, did you use a modern map of germany, or do you try to take historic developments in account? Because especially in Swabia, you put a lot cities became only later (as in 17th or 18th Century) important, like Baden-Baden, but left out Speyer for example , which was de facto Capital under the Salien Dynasty in the high middle ages.

Also, do you favour geographical correctness or historically importance?
Because when I made my Changes, I thought when I never heard from a City anywhere (I'm also german, btw), it's probably shouldn't appear on the map, and honestly, when i (as the Player) found something like Offenburg or Lippstadt or Wolfenbüttel i rename it to something more important (or more known) in the wider area, which kind of beats the whole purpose of that feature.
