The McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) F-15 Eagle is an all-weather tactical fighter designed to gain and maintain air superiority in aerial combat. It was developed for the U.S. Air Force, and first flew in July 1972. The F-15E Strike Eagle derivative is an all-weather strike fighter that entered service in 1989. The U.S. Air Force plans to keep the F-15 in service until 2025.

second nice unit of the day ;)

This particular aircraft Smitty modeled is a McDonnell Douglas F-15C Eagle from the 366th Wing, 390th Fighter Squadron at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho.

Sorry... I'm retired USAF and worked on F-15s for nine years, so I always kinda well-up when I see one!

Being in the Air Force myself, I was tempted to make a bunch of different tail markings, but didn't think anyone else would notice. Glad to hear I was wrong!

You should make some with the "TY" tail markings dang-nabit!

And I'm no longer AF... I retired... 20 years was enough for me thank you!

You weren't a Loader, were you? :trouble:

Hardly... those guys are never around. Flightline Supply (Logistics)... and all my buddies were Crew Chiefs and Specialists. Nine years with the 95th FS on those hydraulic nightmares... I know exactly how much maintenance goes into those suckers for every hour of flight.

Very nice. :) Though that kind of pales in comparison to Wolfshanze's response..

Hmm, is it possible to make it into a unique unit for the American civ?
Yes... already done in many mods, including my own.

I don't know why I'm asking though, because the F-15 is going to be replaced by the F-22 in the Air Force in a couple of years.
Don't bet on it... the F-15 is being supplemented by the F-22, not replaced... unless your definition of "a couple of years" is like another decade or two.

It takes the Air Force a long-time to phase-out major aircraft.

Other Air forces trow the old one out in a year or two when they get new stuff :D , but the f-15 is still a good plane and can take a heavy weapon load of nine tons or so its good still be good for maybe 10-20 years until F-35 comes a long when both can do much on one flight and don´t need any escort.

I worked on the flightline for nine years in the Air Force with the 95th Fighter Squadron on F-15s... I can assure you the reason the F-15 is being replaced is not a matter of combat performance, but rather an issue of maintenance and repair costs. Those things are hogs, and are usually in maintenance anywhere from 3-12 hours for every hour they fly!

+1 -- I can vouch for that.

Actually, the USAF needs to get rid of those damned F-16's.

In the F-15 squadrons we refer to the F-16 as "lawn darts".

At the base I'm stationed at (which had F-16's), we refer to the F-16 as a P.O.S.
From my experience the A-10 is the best to work maintenance on... those things land code-1 every damn time! Freakin F-15 always lands code-3.

The higher the code, the more maintenance required? ;)

What's the problem with getting rid of them? I thought they crashed almost faster then they come from the production lines? :mischief:

Like I said... "Lawn Darts".
