US will maintain control of Internet after Sept 2006

If Bush wants to win bipartisan support for his policies, after the 2006 reorganization he should appoint Al Gore President of the Internet.

Absolutely hilarious. :rotfl:

I don't think this is a big deal.

Given the nature of the internet, I tend to think the control issue more symbolic than anything.

It does, however, seem to pose the potential for abuse - although no more than currently - but in light of the symbolism, it may be considered to bode worse.

I think the whole 'they invented it' thing a bit of a joke - surely, in reality, the 'invention' was an international affair?

I used to think that Tim Berners-Lee had something to do with inventing the WWW at CERN.
yep, in geneva :)

but the www is only a small part of the internet, basically just one application (ok, certainly the most important, but still not THE internet).

I mean if we want to foot the bill and keep it running, why do you care? (Besides, we invented it :p )

I think we're giving just a little too much credit...

EDIT Toning down my attitude :mischief:
