v1.27f for PTW

You can just uninstall the patches instead of the whole game, you'll have to uninstall the patches anyway or you'll get error messages when you try to re-patch. :)

I got the error message, as well, and one of my friends got it in French, as I have read that some on this board got also.
We both have PTW UK versions and went from 1.21 UK to 1.27 UK.

It seems the only way to get PTW to work again is to uninstall all patches and reinstall 1.21, for us at least.

 OK,- before I install my downloaded copy of the UK patch 1.27, has anyone got this patch to work properly on the UK PTW? I'd rather wait than risk messing up my existing install.

I don't think anyone has. I'm certainly sticking to 1.21 for the moment. It is amazing how much of a mess these guys seem to make over a simple patch  I'm just going to wait until all the shenanigans are over and the UK patch is guaranteed to work. Besides, there is nothing fundamentally wrong with 1.21, so getting the new patch is hardly imperative.

Same here; I'm a swedish buyer with the UK version and when I had installed the given UK 1.27 patch I got the french error message when I tried to start up PTW. It's so very EU somehow...
Someone should suffer for this. :splat:

Now that's really ridiculous. Atari's localization person should be fired! [punch] What's so difficult about releasing a patch that actually works? Don't they test the patch on the UK version before releasing it?

I am not going to post another news post about the UK patch unless it really works.

The patch wouldn't work for me on a 1.21 game, I got GPFs every time I tried to load the save, but I've started a new game and it's fine so far. (touches wood)

I'm beginning to hate Atari. Hopefully, after sales of CivIII, Firaxis will be able to pick-and-choose their publisher, more or less.

Nope!

This doesn't sound good. I was hoping that they would release the rest of the patches for all users soon, but now we all may be waiting longer for a correct patch. Hopefully when this happens these patches will be bug free.
I plan on using the show map option for a scenario. This would give a clean map to everyone and I think this is great.

Question? I didn't see anything about civ contact. You would assume if you know what the map looks like at the start of a game, then you would have contact with everyone too.

the file jgl.dll is newer with the US and UK (latest Atari approach) version than in any other EU version, but the new UK patch should be the same as the US patch + an EU exe.

not for me, I
1: double clicked the 1.27f patch file, which started up the uninstaller for that patch
2: found the 1.21 patch again, double clicked that, which also uninstalled that.
3: double clicked the 1.21 patch AGAIN to reinstall that patch, and it works...

of coarse reinstalling is probably easyer;)

Hmm, after installing the 1.27f patch the readme file lists additions for some 1.26 patch, typo error from Firaxis?

Except for that everything works as it should :D

I'm currently having no problems with the UK patch 1.27. This is what happened to me:
1. Was running 1.21 Uk patch
2. Downloaded wrong 1.27 Uk patch when it seemed to be the right one, but was US patch.
3. Got the insert correct CD message.
4. Uninstalled the patch via the Control Panel on My Computer.
5. I still got the insert correct CD message.
6. Downloaded the 1.27 patch from Civfanatics and installed it. Now the game works perfectly.

I had previously (about a couple of weeks ago) uninstalled Civ III & PTW and reinstalled it, so the version running on my PC is a completely unmodded version. I don't know if this makes any difference at all, but I don't think it should.

Typo in US readme.

Not very confidence inspiring -- not sure whether I should double click this patch or not, now!

Would it be fair to say none of the fixes are important? I'm not actually missing out on much, am I? I think I'm just going to wait till an official statement, or a new version of the patch.

But we'll see -- fancied a bit of Civ 3 today...

[Edit: Removed a slant on another strategy game -- which I was informed was just, apparently, due to my own confusion. Oops!]

Well, just to restate. I do have the EU English version of Civ3, = UK version.
I always installed only the UK patches and all the time it worked fine. So on Friday I looked and saw a new patch with a different size than the US patch. Downloaded it, installed it and everything is fine once again. My UK Civ3 is now at v1.27f! :yeah:
So I posted it here.

To all those having problems, are you sure you have the UK version??? Did you "try" the wrong UK version, which was actually the US version? Did you try the workaround?

If you answer yes to any of these questions, you should try a complete uninstall and then reinstall, with only the latest patches for Civ3 and PtW.
If you used the workaround or the US version, your Civ3 is probably corrupted, especially because the uninstall of single patches does not always work properly.
:D

Thanks, Lucky -- your words -- though not your name -- inspired me to try the patch. Having been too worried about harming my Civ3, I've never installed anything but the correct patches. Even if that meant waiting for weeks longer than average.

It seems to have worked, perfectly. :) I was able to start a game with no error messages or CD prompts.
