Version 2.7 bug reports and feedback

Alum Co. is not making, you know, aluminum, nor Ethanol Oil. UN units are not working properly, as far as I can tell (not hidden nationality).

My question about the UN troops is how are they supposed to be used? I had a vassal that constantly had problems with rebellions. So I built a bunch of UN Peacekeerps and airlifted them directly into their cities. Problem sort of solved.

Yet if any one of those units moved out of the cities, the next turn my vassal would attack them (and usually get their butt kicked)! So what purpose do they serve if you can't move them?

Plus, I am pretty sure this is a BTS problem, but is there/will there ever be a fix of the vassal system? For me they break down to these.
1. I get a vassal and then I can't unvassal them later.

2. I can't decide what to do with my cities. I often try to found cities in areas to help my vassals out but then most of the time I can't cede those cities to them!

3. I can't cede cities taken by conquest most of the time. For example, I took a city next to the Siamese from the Egyptians with the intent of giving it to my vassal. Since it was on the same continent (but way far away) from my nation, all I could do was either give it back to the Egyptians or keep it.

4. For the most part, you can't vassalize cities on the same continent even if they are separated by other countries.

Prior to the Revolutions mod, these problems were merely annoying, but now they can really break your empire.

Only if you "use" vassals. ;)

Only if you "use" vassals. ;)

Vassals are largely suboptimal for the human player, as it's not too tough to get new cities to pay for themselves in short order. Alas, the AI is not up even to that task, so sometimes allowing vassals can make it more competitive.

Vassals always tick me off cause as you are subjugating a Civ it will capitulate to a Rival instead of you. So now if you continue your effort you have 2 to fight and 1 was once a good trade partner. ;p

Sucks if you ask me, so don't. :) As a friend coined this phrase a long time ago, Depends Upon Your Play Style (DOYPS).

we never ever ever play with the vassal option... like mentioned above, competing for land space/expansion is just annoying. sometimes when we do a 3 human player team the computer AI measures our combined power so much that vassal submission is way too easy, and frankly unnecessary. the vassal is not particular to the whole team just one selected nation within that team if i remember...

and from the lazy side, we sometimes miss the fact they are a vassal and end up igniting the mother vassal... embarrassing really.

btw, can you simply ask for one of your vassal's cities through diplomacy? :goodjob:

Well I must agree here that it is an option that I find historically stupid. I mean if Country A is fighting Country B, why should Country B suddenly get a "Get Out of War Free" card because it becomes a vassal of Country C because in reality Country C is risking the very real possibility that Country A won't care and still keep fighting.

I mean at the very least there should be some sort of option to continue the fight (and thus going to war w/Country C) instead of having peace being forced upon you if you were. That way Country A has the option of saying, "You pick up B as your Vassal, you'd better come out fighting!" which may cause the AI running Country C to have second thoughts.

Hi

if anyone could explain the ctd, here are the logs and savegame.
I did not see anything in python log or elsewhere.

Info:
Rom 2.71 ( + some minor xml tweaks).
No Revolutions.
Barbarciv ok.
Map : Large.
Multiplayer - both computers crash at the same time.
Comps ok.

It getting quite irritating to have to start a new game again and not get to gunpoweder before all goes to pot. This great Mod ( modpack ) is putting the
greates shine on civ to play it again and again.

could you toss in your PC specs and is your multiplayer DirectIP or that other horror... we have been getting a lot of problems after gunpowder but not very far also (right around CAVALRY). it gets really problematic and one player drops especially when going to an advisor screen! it also seems, and this is a guess, that it can drop (more a freeze) when we are simultaneously moving units in the same map area...

i actually increased my PC memory. i have a system monitor that will show RoM sucking up 92% of my RAM constantly. on a P4 3.2GHz XP PRO with PC3200 RAM which at the time was 2.0 GB on a smoking 8800 GTX with its own 512Mb.

could be that this RoM needs a lot more, maybe a minimum spec vote out there is in order? DirectIP has smoothed out a lot of our problems, unknowing relationship.

i'm running good enough for RoM. i7 720 , 4GB ram winXP (GTX 260), The other comp is a bit slower but still in the upper range. We play in LAN.

We get some ctd occasinally - one player or the other with seemingly no real reason.
But after a reconnect everything is fine. This time we cannnot get past that single turn.
And that is what irritates me the most.

last night i got a BSOD and reboot- it came from Cuirassier age when i scanned the world map zoomed out (just below cloud level or so)... looking at the windows dump file i see something to do with nv4_mini.sys which is video related... now no other program i have will push this event other than RoM.

i would think (1) my issues and experiences do not sound related therefore i wish you luck cause i know being frustrated in your situation and getting non fact spouts from guys like me may not help at all... i will say my buddy's problems went away with a complete clear and reinstall of CIV. (2) scan this forum for a mention of a gunpowder stop issue, my memory fails but this does sound familiar... here is the search thread under keyword "CTD" at http://forums.civfanatics.com/search.php?searchid=989435. (3) see http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=8199013&postcount=1 and think of this line: "most common reason for CTD is that Civ 4 can't find enough free memory".

i think my issues are related to graphics memory (despite 512Mb) and the Nvidia drivers... weeeeeeeeeeeeeee. funny thing is since this is the only game i really like to play this Sunday i am going to reformat my hard drive. now that is fun fun fun...

I have special events on (even though the majority of them are ridiculously underpowered for RoM, and many of the rest consist of "Oops, sorry, there goes that 50-turn-build!" with no option to save it - tho of course I keep 100 gold on hand at all times for those with an option. Lots of creative space left in events, let's say) to keep pre-Astronomy vessels where they belong and to preserve some land for a later Deity colonization race.

If my poor Triremes accidentally happen onto an ocean tile even in my own borders(!), they invariably hit Davy Jones Locker and this somehow causes a storm of three millenia duration. Going into world builder to try to fix a CTD, I notice that Ashurbanipal has somehow colonized a continent 10 ocean tiles from his own using only War Galleys and Galleys. Gilgamesh too has a city on that continent and managed to circumnavigate the earth around 2000 BC. Now I've just gotten a visit from a BtS deathstack conveyed by a convoy of 20 Assyrian Galleys who braved a 12 tile voyage on the high seas.

Pls include an option in 2.8 that allows choosing no ocean movement for ancient vessels. The current system is non-functional.

Hey umm i was playing as romans today and im in the modern era. Im looking to found Alumminum Co. I have Rocketry, a Great Scientist, and both coal & bauxite ore. But it won't let me found it. The button for it is greyed out but it doesn't have anymore prerequisites for me. Also a few turns later i got a GM but it wouldn't let me found Sid sushi even with all the prerequisites. Any ideas?

This could happen if you were running civic which prohibits corporations like communist.

There seems to be an issue with the UI as it takes on whatever the ui precedented upon load up or sometimes the entire city screen. I can't use any unit actions because of this error/bug.

Hey

What is the problem with my problem? No seem to be able to fix it. I know a lot of people experience the ctd's sometime during the medieval times. Pliz someone, fix it. Zappara should have all he asks for in bug fixing in the attached files.

Well. Now I have managed to produce the logs as well. I attach a new savegame to. I tried the game on a different computer, and whey.. I got past the troublesome turn. Same probleme next turn though. By the way, I attach my XMLs as well. I could load my savegame on the other computer without copying these over. As I have mentioned before, I change a few minor things.

Hope it is enough to get help now. I'm dying to play this mod again...

And by the way... the other system is a vista 32 desktop with core 2 duo 3ghz and 2gb ram. Graphics is GeForce 8800 if i don't recall wrong.

Quicker research this time makes me further back in time, year-wise, that is. Now, however, it comes again. I tried using different graphics options, but that didn't work.

What does work, however, is choosing a tech different from Rifling in the tech chose rigth after end of turn in the attached save file. Though choosing something else really isn't a solution. What i do is to press space twice to end the unit and the turn, then I wait for tech choice, choose Rifling and then it moves to Hamburg producing West Point. After choosing a customs house for Hamburg, it crashes.

I have experimented with different graphics settings, but regardless of what I choose, it crashes with rifling and not with, for instance thermodynamics. Does anyone have a clue to this one?

My system is a Znote laptop with 2.13 Ghz core2duo, 4 gb ram, windows 7, and a 8600M GT graphics card.

I have considered returning to BtS or older RoM, but the new features are to good for this.

Oh by the way, not all xml properies are of vanilla RoM 2.71. Change number of wonders allowed, and a few things like that.

I noticed it when I sent a Trireme on a "explore" mission and ended up exploring most of the world. I hadn't been paying attention but at one point the trireme made a bee line across the maps "Pacific" ocean which had to be about 12-14 tiles on a diagonal and managed somehow not to sink!

I thought perhaps this was just how RoM did ships in the current version. :crazyeye:
