Version 2.7 bug reports and feedback

I've installed civ IV all from beginning, then unpack the mod and put it folder into mods folder by creating it. Like in the instructions. Maybe I should do it again by just uninstall BTS, install it again, then the patch and then the mod???

Once you put in the mod folder, did you load the go, select the "Advanced" option, then "load a Mod", and pick Rise of Mankind, and let BTS restart?

Yes I did. It was strange because in the previous mod version I've seen the RoM screen know I don't. But BTS shows me that the mod is loaded.

All right, maybe the problem lye in something else. I've change my MOBO and according to gigabyte tech support I've didn't reinstall all vista just uninstall nvidia drivers installed knew one and almost every thing is going good. Some errors I've solve by clearing the reg. Like they sad. Maybe I need to reinstall all the system. Some other programs doesn't going well either. So much for gigabyte support:) In warlords the TRM is going well so I thought every thing is all right with BTS as well.

Are you using the English version? It doesn't run right in other languages yet.

Also, double check your installation - sometimes when you unpack it you end up with a "Rise of Mankind" folder under the "Mods" folder AND another extra "Rise of Mankind" folder inside the first one. If so, just move the mod to the first folder under "Mods" and delete the empty one - done that myself. :)

@JosEPh_II How many civs do you play with? I set the Rev max to 18 and don't play with more civs. I have never had the "bug".

7-10 mostly. Sometimes up to 12.

This seems to give every civ a chance to grow before all out war starts. Especially on the Archipelago Map. And on that map you Must have a good navy. Exploring in the Ancient era is a bit more dicey now for the player, using boats to island hop, but the AI doesn't seem to have the same restrictions. Plus with this number of AI by the time you get Navigation there can be a colony rush for yet undiscovered lands. Or Barb cities.

I really think alot of the CTDs and such are directly related to playing with too many Civs.

I stopped playing with the BarbCiv option cause it will generate about 20 Barb civs on this type world and my starting number of AI. Plus the BarbsCivs when they turn into a regular Civ got way too much in the way of units. I know jdog (sp?) the author of Rev/BarbCiv intended the Barb turned regular Civ to come out swinging. But I didn't agree with it when they had no horses or Elephants but would get the best Horse/ele unit their respective Civ could have. And it's not just confined to mounted units either.

Anyways, if you check the Revolution.ini, Zappara cut the units barbs start with from its normal amount to 1/3 that amount, so there isn't much to worry about.

Hey umm i was playing as romans today and im in the modern era. Im looking to found Alumminum Co. I have Rocketry, a Great Scientist, and both coal & bauxite ore. But it won't let me found it. The button for it is greyed out but it doesn't have anymore prerequisites for me. Also a few turns later i got a GM but it wouldn't let me found Sid sushi even with all the prerequisites. Any ideas?

Does the city already have its limit of Great Wonders? Corporations count as great wonders. Try founding in another city.

oops - I answered an old tread sorry.

Many Thanks it works. There was two folders. Mod starts smoothly. But when I start new game there are 4 errors and after game started I can't see all the menu just the map with units, no city bar, diplomatic etc. The errors are: XML Load Error Failed loading XML file modules Custom\ArtStyles\American\Units\US_Axeman_civ4artDefines_unit.xm; Looad XML call faild for modules Custom\ArtStyles\American\Units\US_Axeman_civ4artDefines_unit.xml and the same two for crossbowman. What should I do??
And of course i did everything from the FAQ.

I understand that, but the sheer Number of BarbCIVs generated on a Giant Map With the number of Starting AI I use can cause any 32bit OS system to have problems, ie CTDs and MAFs.

What would it be like if I stated with the default 18 AI that any Giant map starts with (unless you close some like I do), then add in the number of BC's that will generate and soon you can have well over 30+ Civs on the world. Time and again it's come up that that many CIVs will cause "most" 32bit OS system to have problems. And it's a problem that Zappara can Not fix, nor can really any of you ModModders. The sheer volume of computations overwhelms "most" 32bit OS's with that many CIVs in the game. And that's my point.

You can raise the conditions necessary for barbcivs to be created. That should limit them. I've always found revolutions to create more civs than barbarians...

Hey everyone, I am trying out this mod and loving it. I have made all of Civ IV BtS's settings at their lowest and have a very nice laptop running Windows 7 with the latest patch etc etc.
I am running the game in Administer mode to avoid it crashing on me which has worked but now that I have reached about the year 0 on the Huge Earth scenario and just discovered most of the map the game throws a memory allocation error at me. I know what those are so I'm not sure if it is fixable from my end.
I have 3GBs of RAM on 32bit Windows so I can't realistically add more RAM. Is there a quick fix for this sort of thing or do I have to wait for the next version of the mod or... Is "Huge Earth" Scenario just not good to play without a beast of a computer...?
The error is simple with just the title FATAL_ERROR and the description saying it is closing the game because of a memory allocation error. It lets me click OK and then it exits. I don't have any logging warnings at all or any signs of it happening. Its totally out of the blue, its also not rare anymore. The game just does it every 2 turns or 3.
Thanks for any tips or fixes everyone,
Jason

this is me and my buddies single largest complaint about RoM. he actually dropped over a grand on a new rig just really to play RoM and with all the hyped up hardware he gets what you get... even with an x64 OS jacked up on RAM and a 1GB high end vid card. btw have you turned on the internal logs (CTRL_ALT_O) and seen what the game's logs say? sorry for the no solution, but your situation is similar... we were thinking about going back to ver 2.5 and seeing if we have the same CTDs... :scan:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=325430 does mention that multi core has no effect on the game...

So does the version 2.5 not have this problem? Would anyone recommend switching to that version? Would the save games still work for that, and where could I find an archive with the previous releases?

I'll answer your questions quickly.

Yes. No. No. There probably are none left.

I'm not quite sure why he has CTD's. I mod RoM all the time and play it lots, and never get CTD's, and I'm playing on a medium powered laptop.

I'd bet that if the OS is windows he's letting Windows "control" the ram usage under Video performance settings.

On your Desk Top at My Computer right click bring up Properties.
Select Advanced Tab
will have this warning at the top of the popup "You must have administrator rights to make most of these changes."
Just under this is the Performance section, left click the "Settings" button.
This brings up the Performance Popup Screen. First Tab is Visual Effects.
Most likely the "Let windows choose..." radio button has a dot in it. This is windows controlling you ram (both video and on board).
Instead select either "Custom" or "Adjust for best performance".
If you choose "Custom" only select the options you really need, usually 4 or 5 is all that is needed like "smooth font edges", "Use common tasks..", "use Visual styles.." and either "use background.." and/or "Show window contents.."

Any thing more and you begin to use more of your ram for windows than for the game.

Next tab on this popup is Advanced.
Select it.

2 choices; Processor scheduling and Memory Usage, Select Programs for both.
Bottom of Popup; Virtual Memory.
Set VM to (if you have at least 2 gigs of rams) 2046 MB use the change button to do this.
If you have more than 2gigs of Ram AND a 64bit OS you can set higher.
If you have more than 2gb of ram AND a 32bit OS then it depends upon the OS.
ex. Win XP Pro 32bit, if you have more than 2gb of Ram the *3GB Switch is a must. The 3GB switch "How To" has been posted in this Forum. Use Search or a manual scan of older Threads.

Ps I have a 64 bit Win XP Pro OS and I do NOT have CTDs and MAFs . I also use 8 gigs of DDR2 1066 Ram (a bit of overkill :D ) but my vid card is only 512 MB of DDR3 ram a Radeon HD 4650 card (modest price under $80 ).

master Afforess sir, can you list your specs, and are you playing multiplayer? i think i solved all my problems going to lesser settings, but my buddy has a high end and i am stuck upon the notion of some cache issues within Program Folders in Vista...

I can only assume that you are being sarcastic about the "Master" prefix, but watch out, the internet is a terrible medium for sarcasm. I learned that the hard way.

My specs are on my profile, if you care (under the "About Me" tab.) I run the game with "High" graphics, but no AA.

Also, I disabled caching in the Civilization.ini file. (Look in your My Documents/My Games/Beyond the Sword/ to find it. Other than that, my settings are pretty standard...

What affect does this have on game play?

Thanks!

Thanks!

It slows the loading of the game (initially), because it can't use old cache's, but if you mod RoM frequently (like I do) and don't disable it, problems will occur. Other than that, it shouldn't affect real gameplay (i think.)

I don't know if this has been mentioned or is a known bug, but in the city overview panel, under city details, there are incorrect icons for specialists in each city. Great engineers show as great spies. Great scientists show as great engineers. &tc.
