I tried to play this game, but it is very hard when you choose Greece. Ok, i allied with Russia, declared war on the Ottomans, had around 25.000 soldiers, acted wisely and managed to get peace with all of the western provinces (up to and including Thessalonike) and war indemnities.
At the same time i avoided becomming bankrupt, since that pretty much ends the game as things are.

But the greek capitalist i made is dirt poor, and no railway is created. I have no factory, since to make one (i did make two in the past, but it only resulted in a larger gap between income and expenses) is not yet profitable, if you have no railways.

So i was wondering if anyone has a good strategy for playing as Greece.

Also: is the oriental question (ottoman empire vs egypt) in the VIP scneario? I could make use of it so as to perhaps take more ottoman land early on.

Unfortunately the game is not in favour of Greece. Thessalonike was the second most important Ottoman city, and should have had at least a factory, but nothing is there... Smyrna has no factory either, again unhistorical.

Anyway, i plan to start another game, to give it one last shot. But this game is tiresome. Even if i choose a richer nation, like the Netherlands, it seems boring, i have nothing to do, peace treaties with all african nations till the end of the 19th century pretty much kills gameplay. I think they tried to make the scenario as historically accurate as possible, but in doing so they destroyed the fun in my opinnion :)

Currently in my game i used the byzantine ressurection event. But i hate that event because it is overpowered. So i released Bulgaria as a vassal, went to war with it, gave it the slav provinces, gave serbia some other slav provinces, and now i have Greece-Crete+northern Epirus+Adrianople and Constantinople.

I have 10 income- 10 expenses, but it is only 1842 :) Things will be easy from now on i guess.

I hope that Victoria 2 will have more options for industrialisation, and also lighter forms of industrialisation, so that you actually have something to do when you control a minor.
In this game you can ally with Russia and attack the Ottomans, but again it wasnt that easy in RL. Given that Russia could crush the ottomans by itself, the alliance only relies on the historically good relations with Greece.

Anyway, i like the trading part of the game the most. I only have plans to also liberate the Smyrna provinces. But i will erase the event that makes the ottomans collapse if Ancyra is taken, because again it is no good. Besides, i dont want to have a borber with Russia :D

It is going to cause the euro to collapse, due to the games of the opportunists. Here it is argued that the crisis was created specifically so that the euro can lose ground against the dollar. Greece was one of the weakest euro economies, so it was an easy target.

But way to be off topic ;)

Currently in my game i have industrialised, have 2 chemicals factories, and three steel factories. But only one capitalist, who is stuck at 100 cash, and builds nothing :(

Well he didnt build anything still, although he got more cash.
It seems that i should have had made more capitalists. But now i cannot, since i have a democracy.

Anyway i am thinking of starting an eu2 game (i dont like eu3) as the Byzantine Empire, and continuing to Victoria.
Anyone know if the Byz Empire translates to Greece with the Eu2 to Victoria option?

You capitalist needs to hoard up some cash before he starts building railroads and factories, it also depends on if you have Laizzes-Faire or Protectionism government.

Also about factories in Thessaklonica and Smyrna, in don't know if its the reason (been a while since i played Vicky last) you need to capture the entire state (all the provinces in a state) to get the factories build there. If there where factories there at all.

Well there is a factory in Biga, which is in the same state as Smyrna, but the point is that it should have been in Smyrna since that city was by far the most industrialised in the ottoman empire's asian part.

And iirc there is no factory in the dreadfully formed Macedonia province (Pristina in Macedonia? ). Again this is dead wrong :)
