Viewports

(Conversation was regarding the Great Wall display in Viewports)

I could add a BUG option to entirely turn off GW display, so at least any games that are badly affected could choose to no display it at all - is that worthwhile do you think?

I would be in favour of this. I am on SVN 4316 and did not see that it has been added yet. I did note an earlier post from you where you stated that Viewports is not modding you enjoy, so if it's too much trouble I can live with the weird GW displays.

I agree i dont really see a need for it also, as long as the Barbarians are aware of its use still. To me it just looks weird to begin with.:mischief:

I'd like that option as well, currently my neighbor has the GW and it's bugging out and going across my territory and the nearby sea.

I thought I'd fixed that. If you have a save (plus viewport settings) that reproduces it with a reliable recipe I'll take a look at it)

When I load my game, the first unit selected is always my automated tracker. Is this because of viewpoints?
Also, you can't see those "fat cros markers" (I think it's ctrl+x or alt+x). They are placed and you can see them if you reload your game without Viewpoints. The same think for those sticky notes (ctrl+s or alt+s). They just don't appear with viewpoints :/

The fat cross thing is an oversight with viewports (I forgot about it), which I need to fix (on the list). The unit it selects first I'm unsure about - if you can post a sav where this happens (automated unit gets selected on load) and give m the viewport settings you are using I can look into it.

Ok, I think I can do this on monday or tuesday. But actuelly, that isn't such a big issue. Just press H once more. I heard you hate working on Viewpoints and I think you could use your modding time on far more important things :)
For the Fatcross-thing: Thanks, that would make it so much easier to plan your city placement!

Sorry if this was already stated but I didn't see it...

I understand viewports prevent MAFs but does it also decrease turn times as well?

First of all, thanks for all your work on viewports. I absolutely love the size of maps I can play now. I'm having some trouble centering my viewport in the military adviser screen. It seems I have to click well to the right of it to center properly. Not the biggest issue as Ive learned to judge how far to the right to click, just wondering if it was just my game or if there was some fixm

@MMX5000: yes, it works like a minimap in other games, you have to click at guess.

I started a new game and at first I don't run with multimaps. Next session, I switched them on (I switched them on in the first session so they were on at the beginning of the second), but now the game is totally lagging. I restarted the game and reloaded it without viewpoints, but it was still lagging very bad. Is this a problem with viewpoints or did I changed something else? I haven't had other programs opened and I don't think it's my PC because the lagging wasen't there at the first session but VERY bad right at the beginning of the 2nd.

idk if this tip is known but i noticed the no Defence animation (so that no defence battle get's shown) works best with Viewports as else you just get a minute of extra turn time you have nothing to stare at

If you have the Minimize AI Turns option on you don't see any battles during the end-turn, as it pauses all animation while the turn is happening. It also makes turns go much faster, so I'd recommend using it.

If my game with viewports reaches renaissance without MAFs and I start getting every 4th turn a MAF, would it help to make the viewports smaller?
Or better asked for the more experienced, do you make your viewports smaller as the game advances?

Yes, making Viewports smaller will help, assuming they are actually MAFs. Does it give a pop-up saying that it failed to allocate memory, or does it just crash? If the latter it may not be a MAF and you should post the minidump in the bugs/crashes thread.

Is it ok, if I start a new game without the viewports enabled and activate them later when the MAFs happen? Or should/must I use viewports from the beginning of the game to have them work?
I ask, because I have a very good PC (I think) and was able to play C2C on huge maps with 8-10 civs without any MAFs at all, until I start a new game. My games normaly end before ending the research tree when a new version of this awesome mod comes out. TIA.

Yeah i think it'd be fine, however the viewports might not kick in until you restart c2c.

This is correct - it's purely a play session thing - not related to the save game in any way, so you can load the same game with them on or off. As Sgt says, it requires a restart of Civ to toggle them from off to on or visa versa though.
