A Mod for BI 1.6

"Breathes new life into one of TW's tightest and most atmospheric iterations with simplicity, balance and superb quality." - Antagonist

With Generous Contributions from Arthurian Total War, Chivalry Total War and the defunct Age of Vikings and Fanatics Total War...And with the sterling support of Aradan for his unrelentingly-perfectionist work on traits, ancillaries, unit balance, campaign balance, testing and tweaking...

VI2 aims to recreate the campaign of MTW: Viking Invasion on the Rome BI engine. It sticks closely to the original campaign, only making changes to correct large inaccuracies, to improve gameplay and comply with the new engine. It is also set a little later than the original campaign at AD 851 - two years after the birth of King Alfred the Great of Wessex...

The unit balance is probably the most advanced of any mod as the work was done by Aradan, writer of the Guide on the subject, and tweaked and enhanced for Viking Invasion II.

I must admit I cannot remember how Chiv plays so cannot compare them. It should be noted that this period of history was not the time of cavalry charges. There are no heavy horses or "chargers" in the mod. Most horsemen are skirmishers/light - with a very few units (such as the celtic culture bodyguards) being of a medium level but still with skirmisher ability.

So battles take five hours to fight then. Thanks.

5 hours is a little bit of an exaggeration ;) The general consenus from players is somewhere between "just right and a little fast" but as everyone likes different settings it's pretty hard to accommodate all.

I think it's a good setting myself.

Does it interfere with vanilla RTW and BI or other mods? Like RTR or IB?

No it does not interfere with the vanilla files or with other mods, as the text on the linked page says - it is fully modfoldered ;)

It does not even require any copying. Just run the installer and point it to the right place and you're done! There are even videos for those who know nothing about such things :)

I'm putting that to the test right now, instlaling it in the folder for 4th Age. I have 4 copies of RTW already, one for Darthmod, one for 4th Age and one for Napoleonic, and one back up.

EDI: Had my first battle was the West Saxons, ganged up on a Danish army on a bridge west of London, My main thrust over the bridge which ahd most of my troops won through sheer numbers it seems (I Didn't really use the shield wall in this battle), while my 4 reinforcements from london and 4 I sent over a ford in the river were crushed despite fighting only one or two units each. I lost 700 while the enemy lost 500 (not counting those healed). We each lost a general (Thankfully my king lived). I guess the Danes have stronger units (I mostly had Fyrdmen). Any tips that could have helped me in that battle?

Oh, and the combat was a bit slower than I'm used to, but not too bad considering possible realism. And I like Hadrian's wall.
