Vingrjoe's Revised Ships Thread

Update 03-25-2008:

I added a download link on page one, post one for my newly finished DeGrasse A/A crusier for the French navy. There are no sounds for it at the moment.

Excellent Work vingrjoe :goodjob:

If you get the time to write a Tutorial of the Basic Steps, there are many unit makers that would benefit from knowing your "procedures" for Rendering and Finalizing storyboards. This may prove helpful for other units as well as ships.

Thanks for the nice compliments guys.

Vuldacon, that thought has crossed my mind before. However, I wonder how many people would be as mad as myself, to take the several additional steps that increases turn over time for making a unit.

...Probably more than one may think. There have been several people asking about ways to render without the Anti Alias effects to gain Units more like the original CIV Game Units. It is far from "Mad" to take extra steps to create units that are more perfected.
Units require time to create in the first place and anyone who makes them certainly wants their work to be at a level where they feel a high sense of accomplishment. This increases as one continues to make units.
Sure there are other techniques than the ones we use to accomplish a particular task but providing your methods are very beneficial to show people how to accomplish the task... then people can go from there with any differences.
I see it as knowledge passed on for anyone who desires a technique that will provide the desired end results. Even if the technique is adjusted or not used on every unit, it would be knowledge available for anyone who desires to use it. :)

vingrjoe, I am rebuilding my unit and graphics archive after both my PC and external drives fried and there are two units that I am fairly certain you made but I can't find them anywhere. I'm not even certain if I downloaded it off of CFC or CDG. What I am looking for is both the WWII and modern Yamato class battleships. I'm hoping that if you did make it and it's on this site that you could tell me about when you made it so I can narow my search more. If it is not on this site I am hoping that you could either post it in CFC or tell me where I can go to find it. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

Thanks

Ambrosia, I'll dig through my HD and try to find those units for you.

wow, your ships are simply amazing. I noticed that you generally stick to cold war ships, however would you please ever consider making some non CV japanese WW2 units, like a fuso or mogami?

Lord Dom,

I have some curiousity in possibly doing a few IJN ships. However, I don't see myself doing anything WWII in the near future. As you can tell, I don't release units very often since my time is limited these days. I think you may be the second or third person asking for IJN WWII warships, so you're not alone. I just cannot make any promises...I've seem to have been saying that for a while now. Hopefully someone will make those IJN ships for you if I don't ever get to it.

I have uploaded my Yamato Class Battleship and my Modern Yamato Class Battleship per Ambrosia's request. They can be found in post one on page one of this thread.

I'm working on a fuso model now. It's slow going, and I just had to scrap the superstructure and start over. It's going faster now than it has been before. It's a battleship though. It's the most complex model that I've ever attempted. Keep checking the forums. I will post pics of the finished model eventually.

Thanks vingrjoe, YOU are a lifesaver.

If you do some WWII japanese ships I vote for Heavy and light cruisers. Wyrmshadow has carriers, a destroyer, a sub, and you both have the Yamato. But I'm using Wyrmshadow's Brooklyn class light cruiser as a japanese heavy cruiser simply because the main armament is in the right arangement. But if you do a battleship I vote for the Kirishima since she is the only battleship sunk by an american battleship in a one on one engagement (Third Battle of Savo in the Solomons). Or the Nagato, the most powerfull pre-war japanese battleship.

VJ, I am one of the ones that wanted IJN ships they are limited mainly by the lack of models I believe or they would have already been made. 19Delta sounds like an ambitious modeling project I wish you luck. VJ what ships are on your planned list?

Don't forget about the Yamashiro. She was sunk by US battleships and destroyers in the last ever battle between two fleets where the two sides actually saw each other. I've read about how one-sided the matchup was, 6 battleships vs. 1.

the thing is that VJ models the ships himself. There'd actualy be a Nagato model online (though by far not for free).
