Vingrjoe's Revised Ships Thread

Sorry, but no. I'm mainly into the larger ships. You may want to look over at Evo games creation forum, and see if Wyrmshadow has made one.

I think your ships are the coolest for civ3, very beautifull. hope you'll make some to cIV one day.

Looks like Wyrm's PT-Boat is offline. I downloaded it when it was released.
Wyrm said he will re-relase all of his units at evo some day, in the meantime, here's a link to the original zip:

@Vingrjoe: Will there be remakes of all of your US BBs as well?

Ares De Borg, yes I believe I very well may redo my South Dakota BB and North Carolina BB.

Winter, it sounds somewhat tempting. I'm going to be honest though, I have quite a little bit on my plate right now. And, as everyone knows, I don't put out units at a very fast pace. So even if I did decide to do some of those cruisers you're suggesting, it may be a while.

So far so good :)
I believe that Wyrmshadow has made a number of models that could be used for this, thus taking off much of the work load (that is if he'd agree)

i.e. He recently made a very cool Town Class British Cruiser, and the Spanish Canarias Heavy Cruiser Class is essentialy an upgunned British County Class with a funny funnel instead of the 2- and 3-funnelled original. Just as an example...

About the remake of your NC Class, make it a tad larger?

Mmm, I don't think so. IIR, I made it in scale with the South Dakota class and Iowa class, and I prefer not to deviate from a uniform scale for the capital ships.

Well, after having viewed some video of battleships firing their main guns, and seeing how it affects the water, it has made me decide to change the pressure blast/wake effects in the attack animations of my battleships. I feel that I included too much wake/white caps in the pressure blast on the water, and I feel this distracts from the gunblasts. So, now I have put out version 1.4 of the Modern Iowa battleship and version 1.3 of the WWII Iowa battleship. The only change is in the pressure wakes on the water surface from the gunblasts. Both new file links can be found in the second and third posts of this thread. I will be redoing the Sverdlov's pressure blasts as well, and then continue to resume rerendering my other ships as planned.

Great news............I was just wondering if you are planning to do anymore Japanese WWII ships I realize you have a lot to do but I cant find any Japanese BB's other than your wonderfull Yamato.

Wyrmshadow has made, or is in the process of making a Japenese fleet I believe. Although, I cannot say that with certainty. Check out his stuff at evo games. Or in his battleship thread in the main creation and customization forum.

Afaik, Wyrmshadow will be taking a break from ships until around or even after the upcomming release of the latest installment of SOE, with other unit having taken the priority. In some time, however, we will certainly see more Japanese- and other vessels- by Wyrmshadow's able hands.

I've taken a break from ships so that I can finally get onto tanks. Although pretty, ships take a LONG time to build from nothing, and almost as long for the computer to render. although I've said it before.. it bares repeating these stats.
Avg. render time for broadside on a 240x240 frame:
1.5-2 hours..... per direction X 8 directions== way too long
Avg. render time for death on a 240x240 frame:
1 hour per direction X 8 Directions== all night.

So you can see how glad I am I ran out of models and patience with ships. They are pretty, but they take soo long to make. Right now I'm making about 4-5 tanks per day.

I wont be doing Jap ships for some time because the the moment I have only 4-5 capital ships and a couple carries.. But the carriers will only be a redo, not really anything new. Just better colors and resolution. If you want to see the difference check out my Essex or the british BB I released recently.

As for VJ, I sent him some of my modern models for him to play with, so he won't be stuck on russians for too long.

I like the new effect very much and already updated my game. Looks like your polishing work on your Iowas is never finished (hey, that's not a bad thing at all!). ;)

Good to hear Ares de Borg. Althought the effects look different ingame then they do in the Flics, because ingame, they have the smoke coloring.

New version 1.2 of the Sverdlov uploaded. Link is on page one, post number five of this thread. The only change is the pressure blast on the water from the main guns firing in the AttackA animation.

Sir, you have a gift.
Outstanding work on all the units.

I personally love the Sverdlov, but unfortuately in TCW the unit is not around long enough before its sucessor shows up.
I always keep one or two around just to look at though.

I have question, really unrelated to Civ III though.
Have you investigated the costs for building 3D units for Civ IV?
I have heard that a decent software suite to build units would cost something like $3,000.

Have you or any of the other unit builders looked into the costs of such a suite, and can you confirm if I am right or totally out to lunch?

First off, thank you for the compliment I_Batman. Without trying to get "churchy" or "preachy" as some may put it, I would just like to point out my abilities are, in fact a gift from God, just like everyone else's abilities. Whether it be cooking or flying a plane or being a craftsman with wood.

I won't have to buy any new software to build units for CivIV that I am aware of. I have Rhino3D, 3D Studio Max 6, Adobe Photoshop, Jasc PSP 7, Deep UV, Deep Exploration, and Deep Paint 3D (which is really cool, you paint right onto the model itself). In fact, the units I build and animate can be used in CivIV, providing Firaxis allows us to add our own models with the SDK. Although, I would have to greatly reduce the polygons in my models for CivIV.
As for costs, you are in the ballpark I_Batman. I was fortunate to be able to pick up educational versions of 3DS Max, Rhino and the Right Hemisphere series (Deep Paint 3D, Deep Uv, Deep Exploration), so my costs were lower.
