Vote for the 7 new wonders of the world (sic)

Why isn't Mount Rushmore on that list? Seriously, I think it's a better wonder than the Eiffel Tower. The ET is just a bit iron thingy in the middle of Paris - cool looking, but still. Mount Rushmore is is a bunch of president's faces carved really large into a giant stone cliff! That beats out the ET any day of the week.

Because the Eiffel Tower is a phallic symbol. Mount Rushmore is not. It's not the head you should have carved!

The primary (and perhaps only) 'wonderous' thing about the Eiffel Tower is that it is still standing, having survived all this time continuing to evolve as something useful. Although, it's current purpose is not necessarily a 'practical' use.

But come now; as a Frenchman you cannot sit there at tell me, while pointing at that eyesore of a superstructure -decorated by lights- that, "this is it... this is the crowning achievement... the ultimate manifestation of French architecture and culture. 'This', is the best we could do... thus it is the center piece of our capital city".

No, it just 'happens to be'. Primarily because, like I said, it's been there for a while - having managed to find various different uses along the way. Thus, it has 'image recognition'.

Well, we have so many monuments that's it difficult to choose one. So we pick the most obvious one (if you watch some movies with a scene in France, you can notive that the Eiffel Tower can be seen from any windows in Paris, whatever it's actual location or orientation), so the foreign minds, which are very limited compared to our extraordinary superior intellect, can easily recognize it as a symbol of our country. And we keep all the other monuments for us...

Beside, what is the crowning achievement, the ultimare manifestation of French architecture and culture? We don't really have one. All the buildings are part of it. Our historical heritage and cultural is to "mixed".

And we keep the World Cup for us... :)

Ah, it's all lies la sensation de grandeur of our French eternal rivals/cousins ! :mischief:

On topic: I went for Acropolis
Chichen Itza
Colosseum
Kremlin / St. Basil
Pyramids of Giza
Statue of Liberty
Taj Mahal

Last time we played Italy, we crushed you for good. Your are not better player, just better cheater :p
Anyway, I don't like football, I prefer Rugby. And there, it seems we :spank: you on a regular basis :D

I would go for:
1 - Stonehenge
2 - The Great Wall of China
3 - The Sydney Opera House
4 - Angkor Wat
5 - Taj Mahal
6 - Hagia Sophia
7 - The Pyramids of Giza
I judge each wonder by whether they were wonders architecturally-speaking at the time of their construction.

50% of your world wonder made by the French :goodjob:

Speaking of that, I don't get why everyone is saying the Taj Mahal is so great. I mean yeah, it looks nice and all, but it's not really that GRAND, as it was just built to be a mausoleum for some emperor's favourite wife. How does that trump say, the Château de Versailles? Or even Notre Dame de Paris? Heck even the Catacombs of Paris (les carrières de Paris) is pretty wonderous. But, my favorite great wonder made by the French, is easily Laetitia Casta's breasts - I'd have to say.

Oooohhh...the Taj Majal is quite spectacular. If you have never been there, you couldn't possibly understand it. The scale is amazing, and the detail is the highlight; little hand cut pieces of marble about the size of your thumbnail are arranged as little flowers all the way up the facade.

You really need to see it to appreciate it. Well worthy of a 7th wonder.

Well, if you say so. It looks kinda small in pictures. And from what I've seen, the Palace of Versailles is much more my cup of tea.

That's one of the reasons I put San Vitale on my list, I figured it would be the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus for my list. It's not that impressive structurally, at least compared to the others on there, but the inside of San Vitale will steal the breath from your lungs. Every square inch of the inside of that church is covered in illuminations, and when the sun comes in, oh how it glows. It is easily the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.

Pyramids
Stonehenge
Panama canal
Cern
Internet
ISS
Apollo Program

Really not happy about not having space for the Honshu-Shikoku Bridge Project. I always thought the Iron Bridge should replace the forge national wonder as a symbol of the industrial revolution, but as a structure in itself it doesn't make the grade.

This should definitely be in the 7 modern wonders:

IIRC, that very footprint is gone now, so unless you want to choose a photo for a wonder...

I couldn't readily find a photo of the bottom remaining-on-surface portion of the lunar lander, but that's what I'd actually point to as the wonder, then, if a physical structure needs to be cited. :p
