A lot of people were sad about promotion tree leaving and since it was bugged (didn't show all promos) and people wanted an alternative, I wrote a quick graphviz script to pull promo structure out of latest game db and draw with full default settings. Looks a bit rough but gets the job done. Also, note that these visualizations only show promotions that have a connection as the purpose is to see the relationship structure. One-of promos you get from things like wonders aren't included.
Feel free to use and copy/redistribute freely

Btw, as a CS major I feel compelled to point out this isn't a tree, as that implies each node has at most one parent. This is a Directed Acyclic Graph

Some restrictions other than tech (that matters in VP):
  • MountedOnly = 1 - only IsMounted = 1 units can pick this promotion
  • MinimumRangeRequired != 0 - need at least this attack range to pick this promotion
  • InterceptChanceChange != 0, NumInterceptionChange != 0 or InterceptionCombatModifier != 0 - need AirInterceptRange > 0 and being on the right domain (= not embarked or being a ship that's in a canal/city) to pick this promotion
    • Fun fact, a ship in a canal/city cannot intercept
    • Can't pick intercept chance promotions if the resultant intercept chance is > 100 either (not possible in VP)
  • AirSweepCombatModifier != 0 - need to be able to air sweep (have an AirSweepCapable = 1 promotion) to pick this promotion

Thanks, I've updated the posts to include this information. Let me know if there's anything else you can think of to make this complete/correct

Could these be added to civilopedia?
We could actually make a mini promotion tree in the civilopedia. Instead of showing all promotions, it can show where that promotion leads (only the next one, not need to show the rest of the tree to save space).
It just probably requires skilled manpower who understands how to adapt it from Promotion Tree to the pedia. UI stuff is rough to develop.

Or can we just have it back? I had never noticed problems with it. Maybe there are a few errors in the mod, but I wouldn't care if I could just use it again as it was. At my own risk, without complaining if something doesn't fit.
It's no small loss. Some people have a worse memory than others, and some people play much less often than others. We just need some support.
It's really very nice of L.Vern to at least provide us with the graphics, but compared to using Promotion Tree it's rather cumbersome and sometimes more difficult to read.

I trust there was a good reason to remove the promotion tree but I literally used it almost everytime I got a promotion---I loved it! The promotions seem to change each time there is a new release - I play a couple times a year so my play time is usually every couple of months so many times there will be mulitiple releases/changes between play ( i.e. when did Scout's lose terrain bonus- that was a shocker) -- plus it was fun for me to stragtise on which path I'm taking and seeing all the promtions in one place was super easy and cool - I really don't understand the people who did not like it-- if you don't like just don't use it? but I guess if it is broke I understand that-

I like and very much appreciate the stuff in the OP but I unfortunatley I do not have the bandwidth to memorize all of - I guess I can toggle in and out so should be ok.

Please excuse my ranting I would no longer be playing civ 5 without this group so like I said I trust and full faith in Recursive and the commuity and I will just get used to it but wow looking up the promtions each time in civopeida is rough -- especially for some reason I can't keep the categories collasped-

If anyone has any suggestions to make it easier or something I'm missing - Please share.

Im sure something similar will be back soon as people has voiced that it is really useful.

What I did is print in paper the sheets in OP because im in the same boat as you and cant remember what is what and where it is.

Yeah - I was thinking of doing that and the more I think about that is the easy fix-- I will have my own little Civ playbook-- Thanks man!

Guys, maybe this would be stupid question, wouldnt be just simpler, to divide upgrades to like tiers where Tier 1 are normal upgrades, and Tier2 being the best ones like "logistics" or "steltwart", and just allow choose for T2 promotion every three levels?
I was kinda always annoyed, that specific promotions couldnt be mixed like +1 range, and logistics on siege units, unless, its by design, since its considered OP.
So after first three promotion, you would have to chose two normal promotions, before you get second Tier2 promotion.
This way, you would not be in a situation, where by chosing wrong starting promotion, you basically deny Tier 2 promotion you really wanted.
This also would allow you to chose logistic on your Medic2 archers, while chosing medic basically denys your units best upgtades.
I mean, i have feeling you most likely had already this discussion years ago, so forgive me if i cant recall it :)
Also that wold allow you to just learn which Tier2 promotions you want, and forget about unnecesairly complicated "unlocking" paths..
I mean, most likely, this complication is for you to make "meaningfull" decission, but the only thing its giving me is fomo :D
