VQ02 - Predetermined City Placement

The golden age would increase commerce and with us at 80% culture it should help us. Although I didn't realize the academy gives 4 culture so that's better.

I know I put Neapolis and Pisae to starve since they were unhealthy and we are losing food to it. So I figured starve it and then be able to put another specialist. Since that last person is really eating up 3 food instead of the normal 2 food per person.

As for doing the jewish synagogue first, the buddhist temple came after I started the jewish synagogue IIRC. Otherwise I would have done the faster one. Either that or I was :smoke:

@GreyFox - Excellent analysis and spreadsheet. Puts my little thing to shame.

We should be able to get another great leader before the end of the game. If we are lucky it would be a great artist. Also we are gaining money so we can crank it up to 90% culture for a while if we need to.

I will find some way to increase culture during my turns! Just remember that at some point, all production in those cities will become best used by producing culture, even if the building produces more culture than %50 of the hammers. (#hammers*.5)*buildturns = culture lost from building nonculture. Now take the cpt of the building, and multiply it by the number of turns from completion to the end of the game and if its greater than the culture lost from the previous calculation, you should build the building.

This is probably obvious to you all since you have been thinking about it for several posts. What is below is more for my sake so I have a reference.

<thinkingoutloud>

spt - shields (hammers) per turn
bt - build turns for a specific culture producing building
cpt - culture per turn of the building in question
rt - remaining turns in the game

spt*0.5*bt = extra culture gained from setting prod to culture (ProdCultureFirst)
(rt-bt)*cpt = extra culture gained from building culture building (BuildCultureBuilding)

If ProdCultureFirst > BuildCultureBuilding then you should keep producing culture, otherwise build the building.

This is assuming all cpt of buildings stays the same over time, which may not be true (I don't think it is for wonders).

</thinkingoutloud>

IIRC Representation, Caste System, Decentralization, Free Speech, and Free Religion.

I think we need to revolt to slavery... and fast. If Neoplois and Pisea are starving with unhealthyness... let's :whipped: those culture buildings to get rid of the problem!!

I think hooking up the cows near antium would solve the problem of unhealthiness. Barring a cultural bomb or WAR, its impossible for Vicky to steal those cows from us ... (they are ours originally anyway).

But whipping is ok, not for the reason of health, but just to get the cathedrals building faster.

eektor is correct abt the civics we are in.

-

We don't get more health points for every cow we have, just for one. We have over ten cows hooked up too so those cows wouldn't make any difference.

If we revolt to slavery, make sure we revolt to free market too.

I swear, Vicky just has an agenda out for me. She went and did it again... Declared war on us and is bringing the hammer...
Here's the initial stack upon her declaration!!!:

At the start of my turns, I traded wine to Vicky for Pigs. I noticed she was +3 happy that we were in Representation. The pigs helped our unhealthy problem, but I still revoted (in turn 1) to Slavery and Free Market. It helped our income even tho Slavery would probably hurt our culture cities more then help them - costs are really steep this late in the game.

Turn 2 saw some random sage say we were the second most cultured nation (behind Gahndi):

Saladin propsed peace to me for 20 gold (and wouldn't go any higher). I took it. Gahndi is still at war with Sala and won't back off of it. No one has been willing to come to our aid against Vicky. In hindsight... Military Tradition might have been a better research target. Calvary would be a great upgrade to our Knights and more importantly we could try for defensive pacts that would force allies to come to our aid.

Neapolis has no more culture buildings available to its on pure culture now.

With the SoDs on their way... we probably have to revolt to Vassalage and Theocracy - just to give our new units a chance at holding back VIcky. She's going to be a monster this time around. I know it hurts our culture - but dead cities generate no culture.

Also Antium revolted a 3rd time and still didn't flip. Next time - unset that setting!! Vicky attacked right after the revolt ended. Antium is not making our lives easier - all sorts of border tensions.

Total idea out of left field - if we can't get folks jumping on Vicky, can we at least get folks to jump on Saladin? Until he's gone, Ganhdi will be too busy to pick up against Vicky. At least see if folks will cancel open borders with Vicky. She's coming in from everywhere (and pillaging like crazy).

We *may* survive this war, but we'll be nearly naked cause Vicky will have her knights pillaging like crazy. Maybe if we send Circei to her as a bribe? It would ease some border tensions and is not essential to our culture push. It does provide a buffer for when she invades. We'd just need to be sure to make sure our religions spread to the captured barb city to keep the upper religios buildings viable.

Here's what's coming our way:

and even more scary:

There are a good number of double unit cavalry in borders that are pillaging like crazy. Sorry folks, this looks ugly! (suggest turn down culture for a couple turns so we can afford upgrades).

Ugh...I was afraid of that...

Not sure if this is even winnable at this point. We can play on, just to see how it turns out.

Geez .. Poor bob, you must have an heart attack when you hear the war trumpet ...-

Yup, I hear the horn and axiously awaited seeing if I would be lucky enough to have someone declare on someone else. I'd been watching the borders.

I didn't switch off full culture pump right away... thought (mistakenly) that we might be able to weather another vicky war.

Has anyone ever heard of an AI going from "worst enemy" status to only cautious? I just don't know if there's anything we could have done (aside from the initial screw up of not wiping vicky off the map).

I know in my recap on this game, I'll point to my decision to move units south from Hatty's lands towards Saladin instead of right back home as a turning point. If we'd started our attack on Vicky 20-30 turns earlier, this is a much different game.

There is in fact one more thing we could do, that's to switch to Judaism.

Anyway, this is a learning experience for all of us (at least it is for me). Who would have guessed that a simple enough variant that sounds harmless would actually seriously handicap us.

Although things are looking bleak, I hope we would follow through to the (bitter) end ... oldbustedjorn, do you need a skip or swap?

I'm afraid so, I was gone all day today - I'm going to start cutting out of SG's for a while because I just can't handle everything that is going on.

Not to mention I haven't been able to play any private games and so my skills are becoming n00bified I fear. Maybe when things calm down I can play more. Since this game is almost done, I'll let you all finish it and just lurk till the end. I just can't find time to play.

Sorry for the delay here... Yup, I got it... not that I really want it!

I guess I'll be doing everything I can to survive (again)

Maybe we can see if we can a least survive until game end...

That's what I had to do in GoTm3. Surivived long enough for a rival to launch to space... fended off 3 AIs for the 1900's NOT FUN. Looking forward to your report Maquis
