VQ03 - Resource Collectors

Well folks, I'll make this short and sweet.

Turn 6, 1630 AD: :wow: :scared: :help:

Now, I ask you: what is there really to do or say here? Take a good look at all the stacks. Even out at sea there are stacks. Anglo-American forces as far as the eye can see. Plus there are Egyptian units out of view.

Actually, I'll tell you, if it weren't for Roosy's cats, I think there was an outside chance of surviving this. Our longbows were awfully tough. But as it was, well, they made it through one turn of this, but not a second.

It's over folks. The screenshots don't work when you have the little popup dialogs, so I can't show you the "You lost!" screen, but here's:

Also, I attached the replay files, if you have the stomach. (Not sure if you need the dds file but it seemed linked so there it is.)

Drats. Geez, I am really sorry sozopol, you have to go through this and be the one biting the final bullet in your first participation in the VQ SG.

I'll personally welcome you to join in our Revenge SG though, if you are not too disappointed with the bunch of old VQers, that is.

After Game Thoughts

- Seriously, what went wrong in here? I take a long hard look through the turnsets reports, and couldn't find a single obvious fatal mistakes that caused our downfall.

- I don't think its due to individual player's skill, there is nothing wrong in each individual turnset. I am fairly confident that most of us could conficently beat Prince.

- If I must speculate on the cause, I would say we take defence too lightly. After successfully capturing a few cities from Hatty, we failed to continue upgrade our defenses and perhaps went into builder mode. That's why we ar eill-prepared when Toku declared.

- We had also perhaps been too eager to attack Hatty. We attacked and captured cities with just enough forces. This may be one other reason why we were weak in defense immediately after the war. In other words, we were not well-prepared before declaration of war.

- I think diplomatically, we are not doing bad. Although we got declared by every AI, its mroe due to their self-interest to grab a part of the pillage than they hating us (Roosy, Vicky, and Mansa beng the good examples).

Wow, two things I have never seen happened in this game:
- 4 AI Dogpile
- A score of 0

Very frustrating to say the least. I think you are right though GreyFox in that its not personal skill (I personally don't have a problem with all the prince games that I play - have won all but one).

I tend to agree most with the defense thing. Thats the only thing that I think would explain Mansa attacking. Its still odd though because in my private games, I never have more than two units defending unless its a border city and I feel threatened (although I almost lived to regret that once).

We definitely need to concentrate more on military in the Revenge game!
